- Hey everyone! I guess it's my turn to go SUPERSONIC! :) I decided to not use engines, thrusters, propellers, or any conventional means of propulsion and instead employ the fabled hinge glitch for the purpose of going Mach speed! This was a really exciting challenge and I had an absolute blast doing it so let me know in the comments below what you thought and I hope you enjoyed watching this as much as I enjoyed playing it!

First, a break through in nuclear fusion. Now, this. We are in the golden age of near unlimited energy.

That nuclear fusion announcement is a bit of a farce. They still have to work out how to have persistent energy production without destroying the containment unit. Also the amount of energy derived is a small proportion of the input. The Japanese still have to make their announcement and they are probably a lot more advanced than the US.

From what I can tell, the system on the ends at the front is what controls the hover effect.
Has a distance sensor and maybe a pulse loop angling the front wings up and down really quickly to keep it consistent and everything else is striping weight and aerodynamics.

kosmo, personally i like yours better as it stays on the ground, and you can stop and start it without rebuilding it

I'd love to see you adapt this design even more. Maybe try to get enough control to be able to complete an actual course like the centrifuge.
Also would that hover glitch help make these things stay on the ground more?
At the beginning it seems to rotate a lot so I'm wondering if you could use this to create a rotating motor.
Using that rotation with propellers would be simple or you can build something more advanced to power some wheels.
It might be difficult to harness, since it seems like it would cause the part to break off pretty quickly.
I feel like if you tuned the hinges with logic to make the outer ones go off before the inner ones, kind of in a cascading manner, in as small of a time increment as possible, it might be more consistent in going the same direction on both sides

As for Sebastian's build, i am more impressed by those side stabilizers. Not 100% sure, but looks like he has a wedge over the distance sensor (could be for aero only) and that makes the sensor very sensitive? From what i remember TM sensors trigger if half is covered. Anyway, looks like the entire pod defaults to "down", but as soon as sensors see ground it flips to "up". Tiny winglets on the back of those pods is apparently enough to keep the whole thing off the ground. Was confused at how they are moving so fast, but it might be same as in SM: max speed, max angle, but very short "on" time limits how far they actually go.
just from seeing this video, and understanding how games' physics work generally, I'm pretty sure having many hinges went slower just because they formed a line long enough so that the outer hinges couldn't glitch any more (making them seem to break apart), so the resulting angle was lower
how about a multiplayer version of this with kan and scrap where you do the tron battle type thing too? could be mental.

I haven’t quite finished the video yet, but in trailmakers you’re gonna want to use spoilers for downforce and wings for lift, which is why you flew up so often after adding wings for downforce

The workshop one is cool and all but it looks and rides super jank. The one you made is leagues better imo, its like hyper-stable and still extremely fast.

i am gonna try this later but what is the optimal number of hinges also what about strength and angle do they change this glitch also what about disabling some of the hinges as that might make it more reliable.

Would this work if I biult a plane around it or does it have to be grounded? Trying to make a prop plane get to the sound barrier but there's just not enough space for thrusters
The space required for it to be effective is more than you’ll get in a plane

no its because kosmos creation had no engines and no collisions. sadly trailmakers does not stop rendering sound after mach 1.

I have a vehicle whitch uses this but with ssuspension twisted by servos. it's previous version used mid-air spinning and dzhanibekov effect to twist suspension. both are more powerful but less controllable than yours.
I wonder if you can go faster with the hinge-glitch or the UFO-Engine.
Time to finally break my own centrifuge record (I'm #8 in the world with 1 core bc of my optimised UFO engine craft)

@@AgentWest thanks, I've been making UFO-powered vehicles ever since I knew how to make the engine. I have one that can't steer but can cross the entire test map in under a minute (it's called the White Lightning on the workshop if u want to try it out)
Now make a vehicle with only RED arrows for aerodynamic resistance
25:00 so 5000 kmph is about mach 4, that thing is faster than the SR-71.
