  • This video is about how to find gold with Minelab's Gold Monster 1000 metal detector. Join me as I go out in the field and demonstrate how to use the Gold Monster 1000 to detect gold nuggets in an old placer mine in California. This metal detector is very sensitive and can see very small gold. I will also talk about how I set up the Gold Monster 1000 to find gold. A link to purchase the gold monster from High Plains Prospecting is here: highplainspros...

When you mentioned you wrote a book I looked it up and it turns out I just bought your book this weekend. Interesting that in your scoop the angle of the nugget affects the signal strength.Now I am wondering how many bits of gold are waiting in the ground to shift slightly either by water,earthquake, volcanic activity to make them more recognized to a detector. Thanks for the video.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  5 років тому +1

      Where it is in the scoop affects how close the nugget is to the coil, and tilting the scoop one way or another moves the gold closer or farther away from the coil. Its only an issue where the gold is tiny and close to the limit of what the machine can see. Glad you enjoyed the video.

    i got the minelab equinox 800 and seen a few tests that compare all these detectors and I guess the differences are small but in the field it is just tough. You see these "air tests" where you can detect 1 gram of gold at 20 centimeters. In the field it is different. Most of you guys are working in desert like areas but I have been searching in the Ardennes, Belgium where there is a good amount of soil and vegetation. If you are detecting in gold mode 2 with the equinox 800 expect a lot of noise trying to run the detector close to the soil through the bushes. In a wild environment these things couldn't even detect a thick gold ring because they just cant get close enough to it. Just my opinon :) I carry some samples and throw them out to test if I can find them but even that is not easy in a wild environment with bushes and stuff

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 роки тому

      You dont say which coil you are using but the smaller equinox coil will allow you to get in and around bushes and rocks, etc. VLF type detectors lose a lot of depth when the ground is well mineralized. Air tests mean little or nothing as very few nuggets are found floating in the air!

    • @dutchy5752
      @dutchy5752 4 роки тому

      @@ChrisRalph yes I used the standard 11 inch coil. Maybe will buy the 6 inch if I ever find any gold. The equinox is multi frequency VLF but indeed possibly the pulse induction type detectors would do better. This is my first detector so I wouldn't know. I bought into the Equinox 800 hype :) But it took me a long time to decide what to buy. At first I was looking at the pulse induction detectors but most where quite expensive and the latest version from Whites TDI got some criticism (supposedly the older version was better). Also the area is not that mineralised I would think. No reddish hue. But in this area gold has been found. Maybe more a little further to the east. More to the east you got an area called the "Vulkaneifel" where there were active vulcanoes (last 1 erupted 10K years ago). In this area also gold has been found. Here is a German article of a man who found a nugget of almost 8 grams: www.rundschau-online.de/region/kreis-euskirchen/kall/april--april-urfter-entdeckt-zufaellig-wertvolles-goldnugget-im-fluss-32304888 This is in an area about 70km east of my location. But in between at about 30km also gold has been found in the rivers. Possible these are deposits from the vulkaneifel area.
      I found some fossilized conglomerate lenses near my house (at a steep angle of say 70 degrees) and was hoping for a fossilized placer type deposit. However my detector found a lot of aluminium paper rolled up in little balls that must have been sitting there for 50 years, a beer cap, a nail, a button and some other trash :) You got to have a very possitive attitude for this hobby. On some of the youtube films some of these guys already get exited finding trash, this is what I call a very positive attitude. A little nugget would get me exited. But I think I am going to stick to the rivers and river banks when the dry season starts. I was convinced I would find a few nuggets higher up in the hills because people here only look for war relics and they mostly stick to areas known for where the battles took place. I am looking in an area of an old gold mine.

    Chris, if you're still watching this...
    Obviously hand digging sub dollar pickers isn't worth the effort. But if you're locating multiple small pickers, would it be worth it to dig the area, and get the pay to a sluice set up and wash it? I would think that would be one of the uses of detecting at high sensitivity would be to locate areas with good fine gold potential.

I wanted to have a lot of knowledge about this detector before I even owned one. I went to a Gold Bearing area, I know the area has gold because i have found about 2.2 grams of gold using the Gold Hog Raptur 2 per day. Oddly, when I finally used the Gold Monster 1000, I found no gold, but I did find 2 chunks of lead, an aluminum can, and some iron attached to a stone. Have you had days like that? Is this normal? lol...

      I'm shortly putting out a nugget detector's guide with hints on how to find gold with a detector. Finding gold with a detector is tough. It has to be large enough for your detector to see. No detector sees dust. It also has to be close enough to the surface for the detector to see. You also have to listen to faint targets - lots of new guys ignore the faint sounds and dig only the screamers, which are nearly always trash. And yes, in old workings there is way more trash than gold - the old timers left trash on purpose, but they tried hard not to leave gold.

    Hmm, didn't get to see any "settings" or "techniques". I was hoping for a video on how you start up, select your levels, ground balance and then how you work the ground. I didn't get anything from this video. :(

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 роки тому

      I did talk about this on the video. It is a very simple detector. Automatic ground balance, automatic gain, the whole video is about how I work the ground.

    All the gold monster videos I've seen the gold it finds are very small - it's hell on "fly poop"! But how deep will it punch? Will you miss pickers at 6" - 1 ft.?

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph  4 роки тому +1

      It has a bigger coil to punch deeper, but the big coil misses the tiny pieces. This is true of all metal detectors. Glad you enjoyed the video.

      Yes, you are the only one. So please stop watching my videos and commenting on them. From now on I will delete your comments and not answer your questions. I make over 100K a year on prospecting related activities, including selling my discoveries to mining companies who have geologists that know 10,000 times more about geology and ore deposits than you do. There is more to making money in prospecting than just finding nuggets with a detector.
