Give PR254 (WN Bright Red, series 1 color, available in 200 ml tubes) and also PR149 (Gamblin Perylene Red, series 3) a try. Both are amazing. PR254 is so strong, a little bit of it turns the opaque yellow ochre very red very quick. Its rated as transparent, and if you mix it with black, it will go very dark indeed, but it also has a body and a coverage to it, which is intresting and useful in this regard. The light and saturated mass tone is very useful. It's a middle red, perhaps a little more orange in mass tone, but cooler in tints. PR149 is very intresting too. Super transparent and darker mass tone, if you mix it with black you will see the most saturated blood red you will ever see in your life eheheh. The surprise here is that the tint is very warm, like a cadmium red light kinda tint, which is rare in transparent reds that all tend to be cooler (except earth red of course).

I've got a tube of the WN Bright Red and - yes! It IS a very strong pigment. PR254 is used a lot in automotive paint - Ferrari Red actually 🏎! It's not quite as lightfast as the cadmium reds but the tints are much cleaner.
I agree PR149 is a beautiful red, perfect for glazing gemstones like a ruby. Mixing it with cobalt turquoise light (PG50) makes some amazingly rich grays too.

Lee, is a bit hard to see in the video, but which one is darker in mass tone WN Permanent Rose or Gamblin Alizarin Permanent? I've tested a WN Permanent Carmine (PV19) and its so nice in mass tone, dark and transparent blood red, but it isn't available in 200 ml tubes... so turns out a lot more expansive to use a lot. So i'm trying to replace it with another "alizarin" type of color, input apreciated. Thanks

Just checked and their masstones are both very similar with the Gamblin Alizarin Perm just about a half-value darker. Perusing Dick Blick and they have the W&N Rose in 37ml and big 200ml tubes, with Gamblin's Alizarin Perm going all the way up to 16oz cans if you really need it! I rarely paint people so I hardly reach for an alizarin-ish color. I find, for my purposes at lease, the Quin. Rose (PV19) the goldilocks for my cool red on my pallet. I've *certainly* tried to find a less orthodox color … but I keep coming back to PV19 because it's not too "pink" like Quin. Magenta (PR122) and not too "red" like the Aliz Perms (PR177). Plus mix PV19 with naphthol scarlet (PR188) or Cad Red Light (PR108) and it makes a wonderfully rich mid-value red. Hope that helps, cheers!

    I didn’t know alizarin wasn’t lightfast 😩

Yeah, it's a lovely color but unfortunately it wont be after some years! I understand fading can be minimized if it a UV coat is applied and thin glazing and tints aren't used. But probably best not use it given the hard work that already goes into a painting. 😄

Princeton catalyst blade. Something between a brush and a palette knife. Great if you want to do impasto work.
