Thank you for your videos. I enjoyed seeing all of the various colors! Only thing I would recommend is to WRITE the COLORS onto the PAPER!!
I think this expanded upon the first video very well. I’ve been very limited in my use of reds (really just naphthol red), but I hope to use some of these other colors to diversify my pallet. Thanks for the info!

All the color groups have interesting histories: yellows, oranges, reds, violets, blues (done), greens, earths, blacks and whites.
I hope Jason does the lot. It was fascinating to learn that the monks who painted illuminated manuscripts had no name for
the color orange. When did orange become "orange"?
(Sorry Jason, it's a big ask, but I hope you at least give it a passing thought.)
Great video, FYI genuine Quinacridone Red is P R 209 and its expensive because its a weak tinter so they have to add extra pigment!

I have the PR255 from Lukas 1862. I don't want to use it because was the only one in my country haha. Thinking now about importing, it's incredible beautiful

One red I really personally love is Winsor Red (a mix of r255 and r254)
Thanks for watching! Yes, PR254 is Pyrrol Red. Single pigment colors will give you the cleanest mixes when you paint. :)

Do you have any thoughts about Perylene Maroon? I love it in watercolor but have not used it in oils. If you use it, do you have a preferred brand? thank you.
Thanks for the nice comment! :) I have never tried the Perylene Maroon. I do know that it is pretty lightfast and some artists use it as a substitute for Alizarin Crimson.

Have you tried Cadmium Vermillion by Vasari as a less toxic, less fugitive, and less expensive pigment than true vermilion? I’m seriously considering trying this paint out.
I have never tried that color! By nature the Cadmium Vermilion which would probably be pretty close to Cadmium Red Light, will be a bit brighter and more saturated than the genuine Vermilion. Thanks for watching! :)
Eric Silver has a Cadmium Vermillion that is absolutely beautiful! He is the guy who runs Blue Ridge Oil Paints which is very affordable for the quality you get.
Thanks for another great video! My Quinacridone Red from Gamblin is PV19. But so is Gamblin Quinacridone Violet. Can two different paints use the same pigment, but produce different hues?
Yes, it's a little confusing but PV19 comes in wide range of shades from red to rose to a more violet color. But it's all still PV19. Thanks for watching!
Lefranc used to make some excellent cadmiums and cobalts for an excellent price - too bad like Daniel Smith went and made their entire line cadmium and lead free.
Still have some Lefranc Cadmium Yellow Medium from years ago...Really strong stuff

Could you please advise as to which oil red is best for depicting blood? Thank you.
That's an interesting question I've never thought about! Well, like anything else the color of the blood would be dependent on the lighting and shadows etc, but despite the fake orange blood that looks like tomato soup they used to use in those cheesy 1960s horror flicks, blood tends to be a cooler red. Perylene Red (PR 178) might be a good one to go with. I know for sure Gamblin has that color in their line. You could lighten it with a brighter red like the Pyrrol Red. Yes have an amazing knowladge of color! After seeing an earlier video of yours on red I ordered some Rembrandt Madder Deep, which you recommended to replace alizarin crimson. I'm also interested in getting a permanent replacement for Carmine Lake, would you mind recommending a paint for that and the pigment used?
Thanks for watching! Your best bet for a permanent high-chroma cool red like Carmine Lake is either Quinacridone (Permanent) Rose which is PV19 or Quinacridone Magenta which is PR122.

What about Carmine PR170? It seems to be a very "basic red", and covers most of my needs for a red - unless I need a more primary pinkish red, in which case I also have PR122+PV19 =)
Thanks for watching! PR 170 is a form of Naphthol Red. It's a pretty neutral red, but isn't very lightfast. I would avoid it. Pyrrol Red (aka Bright Red) PR 254 is far superior. It's virtually the same neutral red color, works the same in mixes and is very permanent. Another alternative is PR112 which is a different form of Naphthol Red. It's not as lightfast as the PR254 but it's way better than the 170. Hope that helps!

can I use baby oil to remove paint from my brushes or is mineral spirits more economical?
Yes you can use mineral/baby oil (same thing) just be sure to use it ONLY to clean your brush at the END of your painting sessions. Then wash your brush thorughly with soap and water. Do not use mineral/baby oil as a cleaner between colors while painting. If you get any mineral oil in your paints, they will never dry. Thanks for watching!

Hi Scott, abdulmuiz here...if I may ask...do you find Cadmium Red Deep a useful color?
Cadmium Red Deep is OK, but I don't really use it. It has a tendency to go very gray when mixed with white. If I need a darker red-red for a painting I will usually use Pyrrole Red (PR254). Thanks for watching! :)

When ever i Mix Red Paint with white Paint to lighten it. It just turns Pink its not the same color any more. Can you please help me with that issue.??
Thanks for watching! That is the nature of red! There isn't too much can can do about it but there are a couple of things you can try. First try lightening the red with a mixture of white & yellow instead of just white. This will push it to the orangey side and offset that "pink" chalky look. Secondly try using either Pyrrol Red (PR254) or Pyrrol Scarlet (PR255), those are modern synthetic organic pigments which tend to stay more saturated when they are lightened. You could also switch to a lead based white, which is less opaque than Titanium.

Walcott Fine Art think these paints would look good on a wood? I build ukuleles
Oil paints can certainly be used on wood, as people have painted on wood panels for centuries. Just make sure you coat it with gesso or some sort of non-oil based primer first. Don't put the oil paint directly on the raw wood. Thanks for watching! :)
Do u use butter paper as palette?
Thanks for watching! This is a paper palette pad designed to be disposible. It has a waxy surface that is non-absorbent. You can get them at art supply stores.
