      Kel Tec has addressed a LOT of issues in the last couple years. They actually listen to what the customers say. And I believe they now put metal feed lips on the mags. That's an issue with any .22 when it gets hot and gummy. 10-22s will do it, too.

    Now when ever someone whines about not being able to find .22, I'll have a little mental cut scene that will go a something like this.
    There will be a extreme close up of Chad smiling as he tucks himself into bed, followed by a mid shot where him pulling the covers over himself exposes hundreds of boxes of .22 under his bed.
    then a cut to Eric manically laughing as a slow pan out to a birds eye reveals a constant convoy of trucks pulling up behind the ammo table and unloading.
    This is what happens behind the table out of view of the camera.

  • @matthewraymond3733

    Eric....people shoot more 22lr than you think. I regularly go through 3 boxes of Automatch in a session, the Butler Creek mag loader makes it so fast to reload 25 rounders you don't notice how many rounds your using. I would love to shoot more, but up here in Canada a box of Automatch is $32 + tax! 11-15 cents per pull of the trigger really puts a damper on the fun!)
    I keep records of all my shooting and in 2016 I put 26,867 rounds through my RIA 10/22 clone alone!

      bones020694 the maxim and vickers will basically run forever as long as you have enough water and ammo, in literal terms its lever/toggle action CANNOT fail and its barrel temp cant pass the boiling point of the water inside the jacket, i dont see why they stopped using it

    • @silentbob267
      @silentbob267 7 років тому +17

      The weight of the water cooling system and the water needed to cool them made them incredibly heavy and hard to move. A similar caliber air cooled machine gun with a couple quick change barrels weighs considerably less and is much easier to move around.

    • @VT-mw2zb
      @VT-mw2zb 7 років тому +17

      First issue is water. You need to constantly supply the gun with cool water to cool off the barrel. Water that are heavy and sometimes in field condition, hard to come by. However, around those days, you have machine gun battalions: the machine guns were a separate arms and have its own large formations instead of being an integral part of a rifle platoon or company. in WWI, Maxim-like guns were basically static defence emplacements designed to mow down waves and waves of humans.
      When the war inevitably became more mobile: infantry received more mobile automatic rifles and machine guns (for eg: the Chauchat automatic rifle), more grenades and grenade launchers. It's no longer suffice to have machine gun battalion in a division. You need MGs in all the platoons and companies. Even in the defence, you need a lightweight gun to pick up and move when your position is inevitably overrun.

    Overall, it's a great poor man's stress test. That's pretty reliable. The can still does a great job even after thousands of rounds. The baffles must be well made inside it. He fired it for 20 minutes full auto before it started to get gacked up. That's pretty good.

      Stokes53 The point is to run the gun until something breaks or otherwise causes it to become inoperable. Getting dirty doesn't really count as breaking.

    That is just incredible. What a great video. I think it's my favorite meltdown video yet. The shop that I worked at did a 10-22 full auto with a can was built around the barrel. I think it was 10". It was a long time ago. I was the one that test fired the gunsmiths firearms before they left the building. I would give them the target and the casings so they could inspect the casings and they could see the target that I shot. That little thing gave me a woodie when I shot it. The owner and the gunsmiths all were there and shot it. I wanted one so bad. I started the paperwork to get one but I had to move to Hellinois and my FFL was no good there. No full auto allowed. That sucks.
