that harmonics at the end, that fretless guitar solo, that orchestra arrangement.... I've been a fan of Obscura's work since Retribution, but Akróasis just get me, and this song particularly does it for me. Thank you Tom for give us this masterpiece, is so sad that you aren't part of this now, but your legacy prevails with this work
Far from it. It has neither the complexity and emotional depth nor any interesting key changes, ways of melodic and harmonic development present in classical music. They seem to have forgotten about guitar counterpoint too. It's still generic metal, just slightly more ambitious. The previous albums did pretty much everything better. Lack of Hannes' and Christian's influence on songwriting certainly made matters worse for Obscura.
Phillip Cantu Maybe not generic but not as musically interesting as their previous two albums. There are riffs here and there which any other tech-death band could have come up with. It feels very dull.
patrolmostwanted first fragment is extremely meh for me. But nah dude, this is probably the most complex track they've done. Yeah, the album as a whole might not be as good as their earlier shit, but this track is so dank.
I think perpetual infinity's main riff is the sickest riff on the album in terms of technical death metal and Obscura's sound. But yes I agree that overall this song is easily the most epic and musically profound song on the album. The progressions, the orchestral elements, the heavy riffs, and the arrangement are amazing.
RobSchneiderIsAStapler I think this is one of the best tracks they've ever done. And not just because im a sucker for long tracks. It has the best fucking riffs and Toms playing is just mindblowing. They'll never top this track again, I'm almost certain. The new album is so ehhh compared to this
As I walk through time and space Nourished from this holy feast I tear through cosmic sea Obtain a universe's farewell kiss Levitated in unmeasured far A blissful dream illuminated Captured in this bright sparkling glitter dome An enlightened shimmering black chamber Levitating grand massive comets Into here and then ascend to rise A maze built by suns and planets within To cut through evanescent infinite gravity Their presence, spirited, edged and alive A momentum in allegiance, devotion and pride Evermore supernal emboldened Transcend sincere desire From fluid to form, and liquid to life In barren earth moribund Suppressed in dreadful contestation In smoldering, rotten sympathy Blazed in vast pervade paradise In surplus, stained resplendence Broaden, unbundles pursuit of life In blessed observance combined Conceive, subsist in gratitude From each universe echoed Weltseele A magnitude diaspora
Ocean Gateways I beg to differ. Everyone knows Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc. Chuck and Death may be well known enough in the death metal scene, but nobody who listens mostly to thrash or whatever really knows them. I think that Chuck should be known and rated as one of the greatest metal musicians ever, and he's definitely not. That's why he and Death are underrated.
I love this song although I'm not sure if it is my favorite on the album. The Monist, Fractal Dimension, and Perpetual Infinity are also favorites of mine. I like the entire album actually. But this song is great, and Fountainhead and the composer who worked on it did a great job.
i think i may have experienced egodeath while listening to this in total darkness.. i felt as if i knew each corner of the universe. i found peace within the chaos here
100% agreed Possibly my favorite part of the song I loveeee those insane blasts and the intensity afterwards tho The song goes full "emotional panic mode" basically
This track was like a soundtrack to my feeling when Brussels was attacked by terrorists, first time since I am born that a part of Brussels was bombed. And that after the Paris attack of November 2015 really felt like the end of Europe. I was crying listening to this song when I realized what might have started in Europe. This song is beautiful and haunting especially the part that starts at 5:31
@@ladyloreia Exactly. Fountainhead's work with this band was more than groundbreaking, but at least we have new stuff from him like his guests solos, Amogh Symphony's "IV" and a Weltseele 2 in the makings!

Because him and Steffen and even Linus werent getting along. The whole reason Steffen pressured Hannes into leaving was because of how prolific he was and how he felt a compulsive need to write a lot of music that he wanted to use for the band. Then Tom joins and contributes musical ideas to every song on the album (the album liner notes fucking LIE theres no way to beat around that bush)... And Steffen obviously doesnt like this. Tom is also hyper specific about his vision from what I understand and I imagine that could make him a little difficult to work with on Linus's end as well. Like an example might be he wants this super exact rhythm for a part and not a rhythm thats just even a 32nd note off. But Steffen was honestly pretty unfair to him from what Ive gathered. Its really complicated and involves private shit thats really none of our business you know? Its a really ridiculous situation but it is what it is Linus's and Tom's riffs go together like bread & butter tho. So dank.
+Giltindor Yes he is, and from what I gather from speaking to Tom through Facebook once or twice, Steffen is extremely controlling. The entire German circle (Hannes, Linus, Christian, Tom, and others) all participate in numerous bands except Steffen, which is a pointer to that.

The transition from the melancholic acoustic guitar into the recurring haunting guitar lead at the end is brilliant.
Tom. Geldschläger.
His Style makes akroasis so unique. A shame we will never see this live since nobody but tom can play this...

9:24 something about that wailing guitar is ultra hypnotic, can't wait to hear this on shrooms now that winter is back
This is one of the most beautiful song I've ever heard, honestly.
Same
Tom Geldschlager's only complete song on the album. Definitely has his touch and is set apart from the other tracks
This track is very Opeth-like. I mean it as a compliment.
Flexprog Is there really any other way to mean that?
Devin Mays
Opeth is sick. Not very many Americans like their musicality but I enjoy it very much.
Akerfeldt is a genius, but he is no Fountainhead.
I hear symphony x vibes too
@@devinmays6737 I'd interpret it as slow / mid-tempo and dragging on for too long, if someone said a band is "Opeth-like".
This is a masterpiece. It takes you on a trip.
This is my favourite song on the album. Incredible.
You and a lot of people mate. And for good reason.
and me too now update lmao. And my favorite song from the band period.
This is literally classical music played with heavily distorted tuned down instruments. Love it

Time to graduate from deathcore. Necrophagist and obscura are my new favorite bands as of this week.
That riff at 3:29 and the blast beats at 10:34 are purely awesome, this is probably my favorite track in the album.

Easily Obscura's best track ever, they added neoclassical metal influences in the best possible ways all over this! Epic as fuck!

The chilling outro at 14:38 always mesmerizes me

Every single second of that song is jizz

The Monist, Ode to the Sun, Ocean Gateways, Mortification of the Vulgar Sun.

what an incredible track!
How do they make every riff just so perfect
What a great band...thank you.
