... Jeroen Paul Thessling, most complex metal bassist and former member of Obscura (and Pestilence). Has devided an octave in 70 [or smthg like this] steps after his own fashion and used this in Obscura on the album Cosmogenesis. Perhaps the best bass performance in metal history. Of course this is all just my opinion! Beyond Creation are awesome and both Jeroen and Forest are absolutely outstanding musicians.
I love how you state that it's not for everyone, yet cater to those who it is for. I can tell that you gave the rating based on your opinion yet at the same time made me fell that I will in fact enjoy this album greatly because I am a bit of a tech death nut. Thank you for respecting all forms of metal and being honest with your rating.
+DeliciousDishes Pretty much. In fact Morean was an influence for Fountainhead writing at least 1 solo. Check out the song "Velocity", thats Morean on the lead.
Obscura is a fantastic band, I think this is some of their best work and thought this album was pretty amazing a really good balance of heavy and melodic. I really enjoy the soloing as well it's not just a bunch of wankery. The fretless bass is awesome as well fits and follows the music with absolute precision. This is going on my top albums of 2016 without a doubt killer record \m/
I hear lots of Cynic influences on this album.... It sounds like their first album mixed with death metal and black metal. And I have missed that kind of playing, since I have heard "Focus" for the first time!
You butchered the name of the album and song name ahaha. all you had to do is listen to an interview of the band.... But it is about the music not some title. They have also been doing that style of vocals since the first full album, but i understand you are not familiar with the band so I see what you mean.
I love this album! Obscura is the future of Death Metal!
No mention of Fountainhead and his ridiculous fretless guitar work on this album, c'mon man, do some research.
Fretless bass, when's the last time we heard that? - Sean Malone from FUCKING CYNIC!
JEDIMASTERZAK well, their sexual preferences are none of our businesses. And no, nothing tops Malone
check out beyond creation. fretless bass is sexy
+Ryan Stucke The song "Earthborn Evolution" has some of the greatest bass work I've ever heard.
Deathbyblackhole yesss!
Obscura's "Choir of Spirits" is even better and harmonically more complex!
Benjamin Decker None of Obscura's bass work is as complex as Beyond Creation's.

fractal dimension is THE jam of the album!
This is album of the year material right here.
After Malkuth Grimoire by Alkaloid another amazing german technical death metal record, awesome.
+DeliciousDishes i agree 2 awesome albums!
+DeliciousDishes Since there are 2 former and one active members of Obscura it had to be great :P
Mars Topia yeah I only noticed that after writing my comment haha. Basically the same stuff but with Morean's composition and Tunker added in.

"Weltseele" would literally translate to "worldsoul". Just so you know. Pronounced about like "veltsehlah" if you were to write it in english I think.
Did you know that steffen name dropped the song in 2011? I did ;)
Technical

When is the last time I heard fretless bass? BEYOND CREATION!
+Master Puppet I came to say that, Beyond Creation tops the fretless bass scene in death metal.
Obscura did it before them suck it
James Peterson
the question wasn't who did it first, but when did you hear it last time...so suck it!
Can you post the full interview with the guitarist from Howlin' Wolf?
Awesome. Thank you, Sam.
No mention of cynic influences with the vocoders... used Gojira as a reference instead. Strange.
Brillante...saludos desde Andalucía 🤘🏼
Fretless Bass... check out Beyond Creation
So they get a 50%? 5/10?
Haha Welt-seal. It's pronounced Velt zayleh (world soul). Great review again. Cheers Sam \,,/
change the rating system. it's really hard to take it seriously
Can you guys review their new album please
You'll get your wish this afternoon!
Great album. Best all year
when's lock horns coming back?
This album actually got me into Obscura, haven't heard anything better in prog death metal than these bois
New Obscura now, then new Wormed in March. Great year for death metal so far! "Technical, progressive, precise." Well said.
Wait, so you can only fail, barely pass or get perfect on this?
No mention of The Monist... T_T
If you need an eerie, haunted bludgeoning, check it out.

Tom Geldschläger is insane on this album!
all albums are kick ass from Obscura!!!
it's weird hearing a critic talk so casually about a staple band in a genre that you're so indentured in...
2 skull ratings? That’s uh. Odd
Welt seele
Means world soul

i just bought this album. i think cosmogenesis better than this.
zulham effendi omnivium is their best by far and more complex
