Car culture is so underated in Hawaii. You got guys that build cars they got handed down from their family members. Its pretty crazy! Sick video and thanks for showing the car culture there!
I have mad respect for Hawaiian core culture. It’s so expensive to modify and I know that they are strict with which modifications you can do. And everything has to be shipped to you… a pain in the ass! But these cars were all amazing 🤘🔥 these guys need a track
$hipping is ridiculous... but when you love building cars, you buy it anyways. i see "Free Shipping" promotions, but i know im paying shipping to hawaii.
@kentbeitel9966 there are no emissions restrictions in Hawaii, (unlike California), so in that respect it's a bit easier. Yes, its more expensive to buy almost anything in Hawaii due to shipping costs, but the real challenge to having a heavily modded car is finding competent mechanics if you're not trained to do the work yourself. In the 10+ years I lived there, I only found 1 shop on the entire island of Oahu that was confident enough in their skills to replace the subframe bushings in my 350z...I sunk about $3k into a different shop to replace my clutch, install tein basic coilovers/transmission mounts, and fix my slave cylinder, but even after taking my money and holding onto my z for an entire month, they weren't honest or competent enough to actually fix my slave cylinder even though I paid them quite a bit of cash. Keep in mind, i brought all my own parts to the shop, so 3k just for labor to me was quite expensive. I'm not sure I would trust any of the shops out there whatsoever to install forced induction kits let alone replace more basic items like concentric slave cylinders. Bottom line, if you live in Hawaii and want to own and enjoy a heavily modded car, be prepared to do all the wrenching yourself🤙
Living in Hi my whole life .. unfortunately not on Oahu ( where you are sure to find parts you need thru your network of friends) so just modding cars costs a shit ton more due to shipping. Oahu got the goods but the best roads ( with corners) are on the other islands. Def good to see my gen of peeps still going strong tho.
That orange/red Corolla with the fender mirrors and white lettered tires is fire!🔥 I've wanted one of those since I saw one, as a kid. I'd fender flare it just like that one. I need to know more details on this Corolla! 10:18
Who remembers when the drift scene in Hawaii was THE main drift scene in the US? Back when Drifter X, Signal Auto, Endless Waltz, and Drift Session were still a thing. Good times.
Drift Session was first US drift event before anything on the mainland. Sadly the track closed and many drivers lost opportunities to progress in the new motorsport.
I LOVED THE MARK 3 SUPRA!!! That’s the ones I grew up as a kid and a teen seeing! I wish we saw more of them! They’re as Awesome as a 4 or 5 just in its own way! Just like the RX7 FC compared to the FD! More square bodied flip up lights just a unique look!!! But the Blue Civic and the Black 180SX were both Beautiful Cars and I love those too!!!
Back yard drifting in Hawai’i is one of the most fascinating topics! I love to here all the stories ! Larry asking about mountain roads ahahah ! Sad to have no track on Oahu !
You should plan a trip to the Philippines and check out the car culture over there. Buzzhype and Manila street chronicles has amazing videos on youtube if you want to know what's up with the car scene over there at ph.
That’s great episode! I love this that you have friends all over! If you would ever organize something for group of photographers wanted collaborate with you from all over the world I’m in!!!👏
