If Fury Road was a fast action movie from start to finish, then Furiosa is a perfectly paced slow burn of world building and a good look at what revenge can do to you
I love how many details you picked up while not missing the bigger picture. I adore this movie as well. Personally, this was one of my favourite cinema experiences ever.
Are we not considering that Dementus manufactured the riot at gas town as part of his plot to take over the citadel. Or am I giving him too much credit?
I enjoyed it. It feels different than Fury Road, but this movie had more detailed world building than the previous.
I really loved this movie. I don’t buy Dementus being Max though. I just think he is another wronged man gone berserk with despair and rage. And the Feral Kid grows up to be the Leader of the Northern Tribes who never see’s Max again.
I absolutely loved it from beginning to end. And, it makes a seamless double feature with Fury Road.
Fun Fact, Scrotus is the big ba of the Mad Max videogame for ps4, in the game he takes care of Gas Town as a Max kills him to get his car back, the game is considered non canon but could very well take place between Furiosa and Fury Road
Dementus is max theory has a hole and that’s the fact that Max is in the Furiosa film as Max.
....unless feral kid took on the name Max as well because Max was a hero to him.
I liked it, as you predicted. I was also the only person in the theatre which was a fun experience.
The original Mad Max had a son and not a daughter like Dr. D. Fun theory though.
Fun breakdown, but I don't understand the need to have the timeline "make sense" with the Feral Kid theory, Dementus is Max, etc. I don't have the impression that Miller cares too much about that, though both Dementus and Jack are clearly meant to parallel Mad Max.
I'm curious about the next one, especially since the plot sounds a lot like the video game which Miller lost creative control over (hence his comments about "only Hideo Kojima could do Mad Max justice in a game"). I just hope the story moves forward rather than being another prequel, as satisfying as this one was to watch.
I loved the movie. Excellent, excellent action,visuals and story. Some parts funny, some parts shocking. Seeing the bullet farm and gas town, more world-building, was great. As the scope was bigger I didn’t mind there being more CGI.
I don’t care too much for continuity but I don’t think Dementis is Max. Didn’t OG Max he have a permanently dilated left eye due to the crash in MM2? And Max has always been such a loner.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Always want to do some modelling and kitbashing after watching a Mad Max film.
First 3/4 of the movie was briliant. I get the parallels in the movie but Dementus seems to represent a direction Max Rockatansky could of went in but didn't.
It's a bit too long IMO. As much as I loved Furiosa's mother, I think the first hour takes a long time to tell a pretty simple story.
Didn't make the mad max connection but now i see it. Even the fact he used rigged explosives is very mad mad 2 and 3
It’s all too intentional not to be by design. But typically Miller in that he leaves it to the audience to interpret!

Leg brace is on his right leg, Max had it on the left. I loved everything except the ending montage of Fury Road, it seemed very unnecessary and ruins a double feature to have that in the middle.
Interesting take on the Dementus and Mel's Mad Max. hard to think after the events in beyond thunder dome he becomes that character. I personally dont buy it but it's up to your interpretation. PLUS Mel's mad Max has never been shirtless like that and has an aesthetic throughout the films. I dont see him losing that style even if he does become warlord. I think it makes more sense that he's what max would've been had he gone down that road.
The problem with that is your not recognizing the fact that Dementus is no longer Max. He's lost his mind. The wasteland has won! This is fully and completely lost Max. His mind is gone, and so we are seeing him boiled down to his madness with hints of the former max coming out from time to time.
Truthfully, I did expect another fury Road. I was pretty disappointed for a day. I watched a bunch of reviews, and all of the reviews agree that it’s a good movie, but fury Road is just too high achievement to follow up without reducing your expectations.
Existed to see - lots of great reviews from UA-camrs I trusts that haven’t trashed on this which is a good sign

It's a good movie, but it is loooong in the shadow of Fury Road and that just won't help it's reception. Anya was a perfect choice for Furiosa.
This is the first time I've heard the Dementus = OG Max theory. Very interesting idea, although if that's the intent, I wish they had cast someone other than Hemsworth. I also wish there'd been a bit more internal conflict with Dementus if he's meant to represent a declining antihero rather than just another wasteland warlord. I didn't see his 'niceness' at the start as genuine, but rather as a ruse by an already psychopathic man.
I thought it was a well-made movie but didn't enjoy the lore and story as much as you guys did. I felt like the 'bad' characters of Fury Road function mostly as symbols for various aspects of humanity e.g. greed, rapacity, violence etc. and don't think they quite hold up as 'real' political entities or people. I would much rather have seen a sequel that explored the future of the Wasteland under Furiosa and the wives.
Really enjoyed the movie. I am not convinced on Dementus being Mad Max. For example, where is the knee brace on Dementus? As always, love the show and the breakdown!

I dont buy that Dementis idea. How do you explain Max on the Bluff in the middle after the arm scene?
That’s Feral Kid/Max! Max loses the interceptor in Road Warrior and the Pump People take it with them and FK. He’s also got it at the star of fury road where it’s destroyed
Remember in Thunder Dome you never see the interceptor. He's in a wreck being pulled by camels. He lost the interceptor.
To me, there is no way dementus is Max that's crazy talk
Mad max is the one who finds her in the desert and takes her to hole people.we see him by his car watching her fall down from the bluff
That’s Feral Kid/Max! He has the interceptor Rockatansky loses in Road Warrior and is trashed at the start of fury Road!
I've always liked the Feral Kid argument but don't buy the Dementus one. Mostly because OG Max hates people so much.
Don't confused Dementus (Max) with OG Max. While they are the same person, they are 100% not the same person. Not any more.
I loved it, however it's having a very bad box office apparently.
I'm pretty sure the wideshot of the Ford Falcon V8 Coupe after Furiosa escapes from Dementus debunks the latter being Max?
Max loses that in Road Warrior, it’s why Feral Kid/Max has it in Fury Road

In serial fiction, the term "reboot" signifies a new start to an established fictional universe, work, or series. That's what we see with Fury Road. It's not a retelling of the original story, it's a new start with a new Max.
I've warched all the movies. So there are three or four Maxs now? Lost track.

There’s a couple of OOOF deaths but not any graphical violence really.
