This is my favorite movie. I re-watch it every few months. It's a masterpiece.

One of the things that I love about this movie is its use of vibrant color. In a time when so many films are de-saturated so much that they might as well be in B&W, this one assaults your eyes with color. Due to the great contrast of those colors, when they made the B&C version it made the black and white parts really stand out!

I still remember an episode of Fantasy Island (which I think aired after Love Boat in my local market) that was Grim Darker than any episode of Twilight Zone I ever saw. My recollections arr vague but maybe Roddy McDowell was in it? And maybe he was Satan?

My favorite thing ever would be to see a series of films with different actors playing Max (or any other fun characters from previous films) so that we don't have a clear timeline, it's all "unreliable narrator", but just great films that are all myth.

Not sure if you knew, but a bunch of the concept design for things like the steering wheels and icons etc were done by Paul Jeacock, who spent a couple of years doing concept designs for GW, including the initial Ogre Kingdoms releases from 2003.

On the subject of inevitable decline: do not forget that Immortan Joe's baby was a healthy, viable boy until its mother was violently killed. There is some hope for the future of the planet, though maybe not for the people.
The storyboarding for Fury Road is astonishing. Shot by shot, the focus of the action on screen stays still or moves slowly, which means the movie never feels out of control no matter how chaotic the action gets.

Side note on this movie, the guitar playing guy and the red head wife, met and started dated and have since gone on to get married and start a family together.

I presume that Chris Hemsworth's character in "Furiosa" will turn out to be "The People Eater"; who gets his nose shot off in the trailer.
The Cars are the Stars in Fury Road. Brendan McCarthy's design are so cool, and they are wonderfully well realized by the builders.
I wonder if Tom Hardy had more lines Fury Road than he had in Lawless?
The Protagonist in Mad Max 2 is clearly Copter Captain.

The one thing I love that I don't really hear a lot is Max's transformation. At the beginning of the movie he is almost an animal. He is truly feral. He only fights to survive and get away. But as he interacts with decent humans, he slowly gains back his humanity and language. He no longer fights for his survival, in fact he takes risks with his own life to save others. He really only becomes Max when he has people to save, and a quest to complete.

This movie is so fucking great. Hearing you describe the scenes sounds like the coolest d&d Dark Sun campaign of all time, and that evocation of nostalgic fantasy is brilliant. Road Warrior, the genre not the WCW wrestling duo that stole their gimmick from the genre, was created by these movies and is as much a part of the nerdom zeitgeist as cyberpunk and low fantasy.

I had to explain it to my little brother that Mad Max in this incarnation is essentially Conan, a wrathful demigod who wanders the land changing other people's stories, a force of nature more than a man. Having him a semi mythical creature, where his most incredible fight scene is done off camera, makes him so much more interesting than if he John Wicked his way through a bunch of mutants.

The only thing I hated about Fury Road was it made no sense timeline-wise. Max was waaaaay to young. Even if they couldnt get Mel Gibson to play Max, they should have looked for an actor that age. Granted, I liked Tom Hardy playing the part, but he would have been a better casting as a reboot actor. The age he is NOW would have been a more close fit to the timeline.

    • @GuerrillaMiniatureGames
      @GuerrillaMiniatureGames  4 місяці тому +8

He’s not Max! He’s the feral kid from Road Warrior with no name… so when furiosa asks at the end of the movie… it’s the only name he can come up with.
That’s how Joe’s bride gets the music box from his possessions. Max gave it to him in Road Warrior.

@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames Oh no! I actually want to unknow this, or maybe just hold a different canon in my head. I liked that the timeline made no sense, it caused me to conclude that Max was now a mythic figure, not a literal one that belonged in an actually time and place. I prefer Mythic Max, like he's some kind of a post-apocalytic Odin (but his Sleipnir has eight cylinders).
