I give The Phantom Menace a 7/10. I liked it, but it wasn't on par with 4, 5, and 6, which were all 10/10. It is hard to catch lightening in a bottle more than once. That is my biggest problem with the movie, you wait 15 years for a new Star Wars, and nothing is going to stand up to the originals. But it is still a good movie, just not great. And it blows away all of the Disney Star Wars offerings.

I've willingly watched it 9 times so I think it's okay. I agree that it isn't on par with 4, 5, and 6. The only prequel I place in their league is Revenge of the Sith, but I don't think 1 and 2 are bad. They are all 3 better than the Disney sequels (though I think Rogue One is better than 1 and 2).
But you're right on there being no way to live up to the hype. The fact Jim and I still remember which movies had the trailers in front of them is a testament to the level of hype. I couldn't tell you that about 2 or 3.
