Not all melanomas start from a mole, but all moles are made up of the type of cells that can become melanomas: melanocytes.

The main reasons for moles are: Genetics: Your genes can influence the number of moles you have (see below). Sun exposure: Exposing the skin to the sun can cause moles to develop, particularly in later childhood and adulthood. Immune status: People on immunosuppressants are more likely to develop moles.

I saw a dermatologist. My moles were not cancerous. He wanted $75 to remove 2 moles. I refused the offer. Went home and applied DMSO to the moles every day. After about 3 weeks, they fell off.
