This is FANTASTIC!!! you are the ONLY person who actually SHOWED HOW to record on the ATEM device and showed what buttons to push and how it looks on the screen! THANK YOU! You are Awesome! New Subscriber!
Glad I could help!
Just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying your content. Like I have heard you say on many videos, this new media ministry of live streams is so new to so many. Your guidance in this regard is certainly a blessing. Thanks again for your ministry and for inspiring so many of us to raise the bar on our game.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
@@AJaytheCEO hey brother God bless, your videos are really cool. Can I ask you a question if you don’t mind? I recently bought an atem mini pro for church, the question is. If I use a usb hub, do you think I can control the atem and record to an external drive as well? Thank you and God bless.
@@ezeone2 sorry no you can't. You can record and you need to control the atem over Ethernet
@@AJaytheCEO Thanks man, by any chance, can you make a video on how to connect the Atem to a Mac or antything like it, because I have no idea on how to do that, I believe I’m not alone on that topic. Thanks again for your time and response. God bless. Thought the Ethernet cable of course.
When you are with the ATEM Control Software in the Output tab you will see Drive 1 and Drive 2 in the record-settings. Here you can select the volumes to use for Drive 1 and 2. You also have a switch button to toggle between then Drives. Than you can remove the SD card or select an other drive and switch back if the Volume is full or you instantly need the material for playback, replay or what ever.
Thank you so much for your tutorial! We had the ATEM Mini Pro installed in our church but when we plugged in drives into the USB-C output the light just went amber. Thanks to your detailed video we worked out we needed to format our drives to exFAT (they were in FAT32) and we have successfully recorded our first Eucharist service today. Many weeks of head scratching and buying different drives was solved thanks to you! :)
Glad you got it working
Excellent video mate!! Great to see what to look for on screen, ive had my atem for awhile now, doing drum vids, and i've been wanting to record straight to an external drive..thanks for showing me how..You Rock Mate!!
I have been watching you videos for a short time, trying to understand this Atem (I don't own one yet.) You are helping me so much. Part of it is your calm voice. I have trouble. learning tech stuff, and you are inspiring me and helping me cope. Thank you so much. Lucky for you that you don't live in west central Indiana. I would be at your door step a lot, bugging you. 😃 Bless you.
You are so awesome... it's like everytime I have a question or am about to try something you've done it first... Thanks so much!
You are so welcome!
I'm running out of mini pro via usb c cable to a usb 3.0 coupler then into my external hard drive formatted exFat. Nothing happens, hard drive doesn't power or show up. Any ideas?
does it works if i connect a device to record and a hdmi cable to have an other program monitor?
This is so timely and helpful. Thank you for making this video.
You are so welcome!
I have tried connecting it to a TV set,but when I put vcd player it does not produce volume it is only when a DVD disc is inserted into the DVD player that it produces volume because I connected mine to a DVD player then to a TV set so how can I connect it better for it to produce volume for both vcd, audio CD& DVD disc at the same time
Thanks for testing this! Curious to play with it.
Can you make a video recording to a PC for using on Movie studio? or Adobe Premier? Thanks
Good presentation sir! Question though. How's the quality overall? Did you experience any recording glitches with all those connections?
Could to use a USB c hub on the ATEM mini pro and connect the hub to the ATEM USC c port and the USB data port on the hub to a pc for streaming with OBS/vmix?
I learned/figured out more from you then I have from their own website. Thank you 🙏
Happy to help!
Have you used any particular recording formats that seem to work better than others ? I started with the streaming middle option and then have switched over to the hyperdeck middle option. Other than a file size, havent really noticed a difference in resolution or picture quality ?
I use streaming medium
Can this be done on the 4K TV studio atem board?
Can you record and send signal to the computer at the same time?
is it possible to capture from tv to drive?
Thanks man! This helped me identify why I couldn't record on our atem mini pro. Our thumbdrive was formated incorrectly.
Glad I could help!
u got a video on how to use the atem mini to stream with the network connection?
Put a network switch or router to share many devices on the network, do not directly connect a network cable.
Have you been able to test the HDMI out and split the multiview to 2 different monitors. I would like to have one monitor in the audio/visual booth for the techs and one monitor for the speaker as a confidence monitor.
can we use splitter?
@@demarboen Yes.
Thanks for the video. Recently bought Atem mini pro iso but it is not detecting SanDisk extreme portable ssd 500fb. Might be problem with usb cable. Pls can u tell which usb C to usb C cable you are using.
I am using an Anker powerline+ cable ► amzn.to/3M9pZAU
I wish you could have the webcam input to zoom and record at the same time. Maybe BMD will come out with a unit with two USB C ports, one for the webcam feature and one for recording.
Yeah that would be great. I would double up the USB and the HDMI outs
Hello, thanks for making this overview, lots of useful information.
We're trying to piece together a One Button Studio for educators. Do you know if it'd possible to control the record start and stop from a keyboard?
Ideally I'd have a system setup with only a usb hub for a usb drive to be plugged in and a custom 3 button macropad/keyboard with a keys for record, pause and stop.
Or maybe one key for start and stop.
The atem would be hidden and only thing exposed would be the usb hub and macropad.
Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.
If you got a steam deck and used bit companion that would work like that
Thanks for creating the video. Have you been able to find a way to remotely access the ssd while it is connected to atem mini pro ? I shoot my videos in multiple segments so if there is a problem, i only to reshoot one segment instead of the whole video. I would like to be able to delete a segment I am replacing without having to unplug the ssd from the mini pro, connect it to a pc/mac, delete the segment in question, unplug the ssd and reconnect it to the mini pro.
Sadly you can't do this but that seems like a simple change in the code to be able to read from the files recorded like the hyperdeck studio does
Thanks for this. Had been streaming from the atem mini pro while recording to OBS as well and didn’t know about the hard drive connection. My computer fans would turn on and slow down. Quick question. If I’m using the SSD hard drive in the usb out port how do I hook it to the computer now that the usb c connection is occupied. I still would have to get the signal to OBS somehow I just don’t know which configuration will get me there so I can record through the atem mini on ssd but send signal to OBS. Thanks again
I want to know this too
I have an Atem Mini Pro Iso. There is only one USB C extension. If I connect this one to my laptop, is it possible to record from Atem this way? And how?
I would record in OBS this way
exFAT is the required format for drives over 32GB. It's in the manual.
Thank you!
Do I need to record with OBS to my computer or can I use another program? The audio from OBS sounds horrible on my system.
You could just use a thumbdrive with the Mini Pro
Hi , Can I record on SSD and stream in same time ?
yes if you are streaming directly from the atem and the usb is used for the ssd
Hi Thanks for the recommendations ! I tried to connect my EXFAT formatted sdcard using my sdcard reader connected to the ATEM Mini Pro using a usb to usb-c adapter. No sign of life in here.. Any ideas ?
What class of SDCard are you using?
Very nice! Cool! Thank you so much
Glad it helped
hi would this work to records to an external drive and computer at the same time
No
Did you have to convert your video files when putting them in your editing software or did they work fine? I'm having a problem where after I record, my editing software won't open the files. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the software not having the same CODEC as the files, but I'm not sure.
Mine work fine as I use davinici resolve
Bro!! Great video! Super helpful
Glad it helped!
Hi Bro..please just a question, can I connect two laptops using the hub.. for live stream using obs, please
Sorry no you cannot
Great video. I tried to record using a USB-C hub but the Mini Pro didn't recognize it. Could you share the brand of hub you used? Thanks. Irv in Florida
This is the one I use: amzn.to/2N5Q1vD
Thanks for format recommendation, NTFS does not work. changed to exFAT and no problem.
Excellent
Again. Awesome job. I have two question.
1. Can u record to obs and hard drive at the same time? If posible can u do a video. Showing this.
2. How did you record to the panasonic camera?
Thank you
God bless you and have a great one
Hello did you find the first answer ? I m searching too
hello awesome video , which sd card do you recomend for record on the atem mini pro?
When using a USB C card reader, I use these cards amzn.to/32qwefs
Thanks Ajay!
Can you link the exact dongle model you used? If you connect the dongle could you plug in the SSD to record and dedicate another usb slot into a computer to act as a capture card simultaneously?
You can't do both functions at the same time
Have you tried recording with a USB mic such a blu yeti? I havent had any success using USB mics even with an adapter.
No I have not tried this
Is this strictly for the pro only? What about the regular Atem Mini?
This is for pro and higher only
Hi. If I put a usb c hub and connect both the computer and the the hard disk for recording, the computer does not recognize the ATEM MINI PRO. So, how can I use my atem computer commands, macros, and so on, if I want at the same time record what I am doing using the Hard Disk recorder through the hub?
You cannot use both at the same time. Either you connect to the computer via USB or a harddrive. If you still want to control the atem, connect it to your network via ethernet and then you can control it from any computer on the same network with the software.
@@AJaytheCEO Hey brother, it is the second time you speedily answer one of my "stupid?" questions.... yet, you do it with patiently and kindly. Thank you again..... Pastor Donato, Switzerland
I just get time machine showing on my display. The green rec button is on tho.
Great video! You said you usually have your computer plugged instead, how are recording it that way?
I'm using a hyperdeck to record my stuff via the HDMI output of the ATEM
GREAT VIDEO!... Thank you! i really enjoy it. One question please
If i connect my Mac (for my zoom calls) and an external drive
(using a hub and holding down the button), can i run the zoom call with the Mac and record the call in to the external drive?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English; i'm still learning
Thanks and sorry no that won't work if you are connecting a computer and external drive to the usb c. It is one or the other and not both
@@AJaytheCEO Thank you!
Hello, can i use an internal disk SSD with USB case-extral for recording?
Yes as long as drive is fast enough
very helpful , thank you but i am still wondering where are you connecting your laptop or computer ?
They are talking over the network via Ethernet for control only
Also.... The drives you plugged up were recognized but are they fast enough to use in a professional environment? Or even a for fun environment....
I use the Sandisk for all of my videos and events
Hi! Thanks for the video. I have a question: which "streaming" quality did you select? Can you tell me how long your SSD can store with the different configurations of streaming? I'm thinking of getting that same SSD, therefore the question. Also, what about mechanical HDD, have you tested one? God bless you!
High = 121:21, Medium = 155:24, Low = 268:20
@@AJaytheCEO thank you very much!
Is there a recording limit time on it when using the Atem as the recorder? My dslr camera has a 30min time limit & looking to record longer than 30mins
The ATEM is only limited by the space on your drive connected
@@AJaytheCEO thank you 🙏🏾
What program were you running to monitor the cams and the space left on the ssd that you were recording to?
That was the multiview output from the ATEM Mini Pro with all that information

How to connect obs to atem mini pro with usb hub
You can't
Why does the video look like that when there is movement? Can someone let me know?
Ive tried a couple dongles to the samsung 500gb with usbc but the switcher isnt seeing it. I formatted the drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Am i doing something wrong?
Try ExFat
Still no love 😞
Do you know if any USB C splitter would allow connecting to a mac and drive at the same time? I currently am using the USB c to connect to my mac to control.
No splitter will work as the usb direction is one way. Connecting a hub brings connections into the atem or vic versa
Great video,
Can you try connect one USB cable from the USB Hub to your PC to see if you can use it as an input to Zoom?
This way we will solve a big problem which is conference calling with zoom and recording at the same time.

Is it possible to record 4k videos on a memory card in a camera and simultaneously record the iso recordings in SSD?
That depends on the camera. My cameras stop hdmi output when I am recording in 4K but newer cameras might not have that restriction
Thanks Ajay. Really helpful content.
I would however like to know if it's possible to have an HDMI output from the USB C hub?
This would be so as to have a clean HDMI feed, while the mixer's HDMI output serves a multiview.
Unfortunately not directly. You would need to feed the USB C out into a computer running OBS or VMix and then output that to your televisions. That is how I use it here
@@AJaytheCEO Thank you so much sir! You've been of great help.
On that anker hub, can you also output the hdmi for a program out? If so, can it be done while recording to sd card?
The video or does not work on the hub with the atem

Thanks for this video. I've got a question: can you record at the same time while you're live streaming to UA-cam? (Connection being internet LAN cable to stream directly to UA-cam and USB for recording)
Yes you can
Hey. Sorry if I missed this in the video. So are you saying that I can plug a hub into the usb port and then connect a drive as well as connect to mu computer to use the Atem as a webcam for live streaming? Thanks for the great video.
You cannot use both features at the same time. Either webcam or recording but not both on the atem mini pro
Does it allow you to record each individual camera? or just the switched stream? Thanks for the informative video. Keep it up!
The Pro ISO records each input not this model
Awesome finding , nice video & Thanks :)

This is very helpful. Can you record and connect to a laptop and use the ATEM as a webcam while still recording? (I wanted to do this without using Ethernet if possible)
Sadly, no you cannot if you are using the live stream through the USB connection
@@AJaytheCEO oh crap.
Nice work my man!

Hi, Thanks for the video. I have an ATEM Mini pro ISO. I would like to record the 4 different video inputs and 2 audio inputs in my Samsung SSD. At the same time, I want to telecast the one using the OBS. So, I need to use type C for webcam mode for computers as well as storage into a single SSD. Can you please help me with it?
To do that the usb will be needed for the ssd. The extreme will give you access to both
Will this work with a non SSD drive? Like the ones with an actual rotating drive?
No because they are not far enough for the data
Are you able to stream and record your program feed at the same time?
Yes you can but you will need to be connected to the atem with a computer over the network since the USB will be used for the drive to capture the recording
When we were setting up our Mini Pro after downloading the control software, we were presented with a message that the switcher was not connected. We then learned that we needed an IP address. I have not seen this covered in any video I watched. Perhaps a video on this topic could be made?
If you're on macOS, Apple menu > System Preferences > Network and write the IP address.
Try to enter the IP address manually in the ATEM Mini Pro.
On my Mac, the Control Software appeared a few seconds later.
Can you have a hard drive connected for recording and also connect to computer for the “webcam” feature through a hub?
No you cannot. If a hub is connected you cannot use it as a webcam
What about to a hub for HDD recording & then to a 4G phone as a back up internet connection for streaming?
You can't do both at the same time
Ta AJ.. that's huge news.. need that HDD & 5g fail over.. 🖖
What hub do you use with your mini pro
This is the one I use by Anker: amzn.to/35kY1lc
Question. Can you record from the camera internally and still stream at the same time. I have 3 static cameras that I would like to set up on the Black Magic but would also like for the cameras to record internally so I have the raw footage for later use. Thanks in advance ☺️
That all depends on the camera. My camera can do that if I am running it at 1080p. If I switch it to 4k no signal comes out to the atem when recording.
@@AJaytheCEO Thank you! 😊
Question: Are we able to use an usb c hub then a cable to computer as web cam and one to a drive to record
No you cannot. You cannot send and receive data at the same time on ATEM Mini Pro or Pro ISO

What drive are you using?
Hey AJ, can you do a revisit of this test, and let me know if when you add the USB Hub to the mix, if you can use one port to send video to the SSD for Recording, and use another port to the OBS pc, for streaming, I was informed, that if you streaming from the Mini Pro, and recording at the same time on the Pro, the quality of the recorded video would be the same quality as your stream setting, this can't work for me, as i can only stream on max 1mb internet bandwidth, which won't give me good quality video...
I would prefer to record from the Mini than from OBS
When you connect a hub to the ATEM you cannot also connect it to a computer. That is unless there is a bidirectional hub I am unaware of.

I'm having a problem getting the recording on my external hard drive to open in davinci resolve. Have you heard anything about this issue or how to resolve it? I can drop the video in the media pool. I can hear the audio but no video in the viewer.
Is this a native file from the ATEM Mini pro you are using?
@@AJaytheCEO Yes. I set it to 1080p 30fps. I saw online that the free version of resolve doesn't like mp4, but I would think it should work from a blackmagic device.
Hi I just found your profile, and so for I like what I see. Is it possible to record the individual feeds?
Hi Nicholas, in short - yes, you now can record all feeds. A new version of the ATEM Mini Pro was released relatively recently called the ATEM Mini Pro ISO ($895 US retail) which can record all the individual feeds plus the program feed - all at maximum quality (even if the streaming and/or program feed is set to lesser quality.) This requires use of the free ATEM Software Control software (Win & Mac available), which connects to the ATEM Mini device via either Ethernet or USB. That said, if you're using the USB port on the ATEM Mini to connect & control it from your PC, it uses the one/only USB port on the ATEM Mini, so there's no port left in which to plug the recording media. And a hub is not an option in that scenario (disclaimer - I haven't tested that, just going on what the documentation says), as the ATEM switches from "storage" mode to "webcam" mode when a PC is plugged into the USB port.
I recently purchased an ATEM Mini Pro ISO and so far have been very happy with it.
Incidentally, if you use Davinci Resolve video editor, when you set the USB port to ISO storage mode, it not only records the individual feeds but also stores all graphic media used, as well as a Resolve Project file that can be opened in Resolve with all edits made when recording dropped directly into the timeline - AND you can change any/all those edits in Resolve later to improve or even create a different end product video using all the individual feeds. It's a really well thought-out solution, IF you're a Davinci Resolve user - which you can get free from Blackmagic Design's website!
Hope this helps!
@@cgh1 thanks. I decided to go with the Pro, which should arrive in the mail today
Hi Ajay, Ruben here from Luxembourg... I was wondering, we have recently bought the Atem Mini and we are using OBS at the same time. I do not notice any big advantage in upgrading to the Atem Mini Pro when with OBS we can record our church services. Knowing your recent experience with the Atem Mini Pro, do you find it is really a game changer? If so, could you please let us know why?
God bless,
Ruben
if your computer with obs can keep up recording or broadcasting in 1080p, then there is no need to upgrade from atem mini to atem mini pro. Unless you want to simplify things. With the atem mini pro you can broadcast directly and so you will not need a computer with OBS. On the other hand where do you want to broadcast to? The atem mini pro can standard broadcast to youtube, facebook and one other I forgot. It is possible to hack the xml file and use other broadcast websites but that requires some extra knowledge and then it is not simplefying.
can you connect a hub and still send out to the computer?
No you can't
