The instruction booklet that came with mine said that the outer knob is volume and the inner one is squelch but it was wrong. The manual is pretty minimal for such a complex radio, and it's in Chinglish, but it's not too bad. You can program the radio with CHIRP but many of the bells and whistles can only be engaged manually or through the company's software. You'll have to download a driver for the programming cable and in Windows 11, i had a devil of a time getting it to work so that the software could recognize the comm port. On the whole, I'm pleased with the radio, but it has a few quirks. Certainly nothing I'd consider a deal-breaker.
It may just be an artifact of recording it on a video device. The audio on mine is okay. I'll probably get an external speaker, though, because the radio is under the passenger seat of my car. I can hear it, but not very well.
@markcartlidge7107 Not in my experience or when looking at the hardware under the cover, the FT-8900R I have out preformed my TYT-9800R Plus when using the exact same settings. We have a unique environment here (very mountainous) since the N2GE repeater made famous by the Helene disaster is our main repeater. Other hams could tell the difference when I switched them out one day during a test - the TYT is awesome, however, by far, the Yaesu original is better.

It's a great radio .
Yeah, you would want to hook up an external speaker as the internal one on most all radios is a dollar store speaker.
