Panzer Paladin doesn't need a big in-depth plot with tons of character development because it serves it's purpose as almost a revisionist history version of NES-era Mega Man where the Blue Bomber is replaced with a spunky, blue-haired robot anime girl and Rush is replaced by a badass Evangellion/Gundam mech.
While I personally believe this game is amazing and is on par with or exceeds Shovel Knight in some regards, I feel as though the game may be destined to be an obscure hidden gem for the Switch. It should have been part of yesterday's Nintendo Direct to drum up some hype for it in all honesty.
Just know that if you're thinking about buying it, the game is worth every cent. It makes me wonder if and how the upcoming Cyber Shadow can follow up on it's quality. I just hope the game sells well enough to warrant a sequel that expands upon the game's novel ideas.

This seems quite generic and unspecial . Yes it doesn’t need any story but then what does it have over some great nes platformers released 30 years ago. Another retro styled game that was released recently was bloodstained curse of the moon 2 which had five endings, 8 characters and a simple but effective story with cutscenes between every stage.
As for cyber shadow yacht club are good at making memorable experiences which aren’t “this could be a 2d platformer from the 90s” so I suspect it will be much much better. Out of all the indie games I’ve seen recently this one seems to be the most uninspired. I hope tribute games continues to make games and that they learn for the mistakes that held them back here.

Nothing, and that's perfectly fine. Not everyone goes for story in games (one of my neighbors really detest stories in games, with one of the only few he cared about being Saints Row 2). For me, Panzer Paladin is just pure casual fun and nothing more. That's more than enough for me.

When I played it as an adult though I got passed it no problem.

I don't think the game being too easy is a problem for it. Nowadays everyone wants to make NES hard type platformers. It's nice to hear that there is a retro-style platformer that isn't trying to do that. As long as the game is fun and not frustrating, what's wrong with that?

  • @Dumb_Woof

All of Derek's complaints sound like positives to me (that's just me tho). I like when I can finish a game with a moderate amount of challenge rather than getting frustrated cause I'm not good enough or whatever. So this game looks to be right in line with games I love.

@@jeffreybrown7792 I will say after doing a playthrough, this game is somewhat easy with a few challenging points for those familiar with the genre, but considering how hard Flinthook was for me (I'm not sure if I'll ever beat the final gauntlet level tbh) I'm okay with Tribute making something a bit more accessible here. Definitely a fun game!

  • @akaimizu1

Wow. The actual game systems in this game look among the best there is, I kind of want them to keep everything they done here for a sequel where it has difficulties meant to really challenge all of these abilities you have in this game. Hopefully, this does well enough for them to keep on with this because this looks like it could blossom into another well-loved series if tweaked just so right. The game elements here are executed in a way that could give the combined efforts of the original Shovel Knight campaign and Blaster Master a run for their money. You can see the love and care they put into it.

It has potential but I have to say I do like the ability to choose your boss level order, what these games should do is progressive difficulty altering the levels as you get further, no matter the level order you choose, it doesn't need to be massive changes just the right enemy placement and maybe a more challanging path

At least want more of than any other style. I have maybe 4 out 85 switch games that are pixel art. (Carrion qualife's I believe. Awesome game.) The OST is a master piece and one of the best music tracks in years however the game itself feels too limited. I didn't like the whole durability and break the weapon for the spell mechanics. The weapons needed more abilities, combos and they should not break. Is like megaman could only use a boss power for certain amount of times during the game without the possibilty to re charge it and if it runs out he has to go back to the same level again and get the same weapon again.

It seems like a great game but feels like they could have done a bit more with the ideas. Perhaps in the sequel you can get Into different mechs? Each stage has special gimmick parts? Harder difficulty? The bosses weapons being a bit more special but can still break and be permanently gone? Perhaps can be used for endings? Adaptors for the mech?

I agree but I really don’t need a story or character development in this kinda game . If it’s there great

As someone who sucks at everything, I don’t think I’ll mind the difficulty level.

Derek is not the best platformer, so if he says its easy, veterans will not have fun. For those who want to just enjoy the game's atmosphere, its worth it.

?? Doesn't he do Castlevania marathons, among other platformers?

@@Gale_Storm_ yes but he does die a lot in those games. on one of his streams he even admits not being good. thats why i am subbed to gamexplain. the whole cast arent hardcore expert players, but they deliver news fast and always share their opinion no matter biased. :)

Did the character really need to have been made a mech? He doesn't even shoot. Or do much other "mech" things. I wanna buy it cause it's on sale but it looked a bit boring to play. Loved the aesthetics though
