Aragon is probably one of if not my favorite charecters in literature or media, in a world with so many horrible male role models it is a breath of fresh air to have a sense of true traditionally masculinity. Strength and kindness in equal measure, sensitive but yet courageous.

You kind of glossed over it, but the speech Aragorn give when asked to surrender Anduril in Edoras is perhaps the largest difference between Movie Aragorn and Book Aragorn. Wherein, the books make it painfully clear that Aragorn will suffer no hinderance to his destiny. He's not just a reluctant ranger who finds it in himself to become King. He understands the weight of his quest and especially his sword Anduril. Full disclosure, I read this from a comment a while back.

Utterly fantastic! I love the focus on Anduril to shape the story of Aragorn. Some of the details, especially those not in the movies, I had forgotten. Hearing them again with the context of what Aragorn believed his sword would mean to others is much deeper than portrayed in the movies.
That said, I must make one comment on the movies. No actor more fully made Peter Jackson’s version richer than the book could do than that of Vigo (Aragorn). He brought a depth to Tolkien’s character and storyline that fulfilled in me the transition from a great and epic story to something so real one must remind his/herself that this is fiction and not a recount of the greatest story of good vs. evil until maybe WWII.
Dave, thanks again for blessing us with this epic creation of yours.

I also love how they use Aragorns and Andurils reveal to Sauron in the Palantir to make their bait look more believable. As the army marches through Osgiliath and Ithilien, herolds are announcing that „The lords of the west are coming to reclaim their lands“ but Imrahil (my favourite character, missed him much in the movie...) makes them say “King Elessar“ instead some lords. And I think this works perfectly, because Sauron believes that the Ring was in Minas Tirith and so sees it as Aragorns mistake to take the Ring, Anduril and troops he has left and challenge Sauron in arrogance and ignorance 🙂

Aragorn's desire to become king was cemented when he looked upon the Argonath. This man had travel for so many years and been to so many places. Yet he had never personally seen the Argonaths.
Looking upon them made a change in him that even Frodo did not recognize Aragorn's voice. There was also a "light in his eyes" which is most likely due to his Elvish and Maiar heritage.
It's one of my favorite passages in the book. Very inspiring.

I think the seeds of greed for the ring on Boromir started already on Elrond's council. It is there that he first speak for the use of the ring against Sauron.
When they got to Lothlórien, Galadriel saw those seeds on him and tried to warn him to not let them grow, what made him unconfortable with her. From then on I think he just became aware that this greed was on him. He would have done the same thing, or perhaps worse, if the Fellowship had never went through Lothlórien.
Remember, Faramir was the son that respected and loved the old knownledges and traditions of Gondor and Númenor, Boromir was the one who asked his father how many years without a king should pass till a steward was crowded a king. He was ambitious and proud and had a great opinion about himself and his capacities, a kind of prey the ring was specially prepared to deal with.

One thing that has to be kept in mind, just how low the heirs of Isildur fell. Through the Third Age, the line of Kings of Arnor & Gondor was ground down, till the only surviving heirs were houseless Rangers of the North! When the time of the One Ring resurfaces, Aragorn is the last hope of the Dunedain. The realm of Gondor is a faded characture of itself, only the destruction the One Ring can save the Free Peoples.
One last thing, it is Ulmo that is the prime mover of events in Middle Earth!

It’s interesting that both the ringwraithes and the army of dead men cause crippling fear in those that they are near. I wonder if that is a feature of beings that are pulled into the shadow realm. The Army of the Dead are basically wraiths after all, just not ones bound to any particular master.

Hi Rainbow Dave, longtime fan of your content here! Thanks for another great video. I wanted to bring your attention to the fact that some of the art in your video have identical composition to depictions of Aragorn in the recent Magic the Gathering adaptation of Lord of the Rings. However, although Aragorn was conceived as a person of color in the original artwork (as was Gandalf in images in your last video), he has been altered in the works you used here to resemble Viggo Mortensen's portrayal more. I am not here to argue opinions and preferences for his depiction, just wanted to make you aware that you may have inadvertently used plagiarized content. I am sure you would be on the side of artistic ownership and integrity - we appreciate the artists so much for their imagination and creativity in showing different ways to visualize our beloved worlds

As much as I love how the movies gave Arwen more screen time, in the process they eliminated the most beautiful and special element of their relationship in the book. Becoming king is the only way Aragorn can marry Arwen; this is the condition set by her father. Which means he goes through all this struggle and conflict and war, just so he can have a life with her. He does it for her. ❤ All that is completely scrapped in the films, and they’re lesser for it.

I've always wondered how a broken sword was useful in the sword fights Aragorn had during his time as a Ranger. Even if only the tip was broken, it could only be a slashing weapon and not a stabbing weapon. I think this is why it was left out of the movies until quite late so that Aragorn could wield another sword that could be used in a normal way.

It's likely he carried another sword for decades and only retrieved the shards of Narsil from Rivendell when events in Middle - earth brought the final battles over the Ring much closer.

One of the extremely few disappointments I had with the movies was the lack of magical weapons. They did the glowing sting thing so they adopted that canon so why not have Anduril be one of the last relics of the first and second ages. How badass would it be for Anduril to be the fear inducing fire brand that Sauron was right to fear?

I’ve always wondered why Glorfindel didn’t join the Grey Company. Do you have thoughts on this?

      @Enerdhil 2 місяці тому

Well, Glorfindel doesn't hang out with the Rangers like Elladan and Elrohir do. The twins accompanied them, not vice versa. You should be surprised that Elrond permitted it.🤔

Glorfindel is not only a famous threat to Sauron, having already scared off the Nazgûl all by himself, but he has the power of Valinor radiating off him. His presence would’ve drawn Sauron’s attention to the Fellowship and betrayed the Fellowship’s absolute need to be traveling in secret.

When Frodo was fading into a wraith, he saw Glorfindel in his glorious state. I am sure the Nazgul saw the same thing and were terrified of him. Glorfindel was born in the Light of the Two Trees. That alone is a power boost. Plus, as you mentioned, Eru sent him back to Middle Earth with enhanced power, just as he did with Gandalf.

Welcome back Rainbow Dave. You , Girl next Gondor & The Tolken Geek to name a few who I've been in contact with. What do you think that originally the Ishtar were to be 100 white wizards & that the Witch King was being considered by Tolkien as an Ishtar not a man. From tales of middle earth. Dave I think the way it was finalized him to be a man ( probably a Neumanorian) I do feel he was made too overpowered to face Gandalf.

Please, if I haven't missed it, bash those films. I'm a late-comer to the love of your channel but ardent now in my devotion, I lack the resources to meaningfully assist your labours but be assured that I'll be watching (which sounds dodgy, but isn't).

Amidst a sea of toxic masculinity, Aragon provides a welcome respite and is, without a doubt, one of my favorite fictional or nonfictional characters. Resilience and gentleness in equal measure, perceptive and brave

Rainbow Dave has ruined All other lore video channels for me simply because he doesn’t just talk about the books. he tells a story, connects dots, ties up loose ends, adds hilarious commentary and most importantly he’s not monotone 😂😂😂 I even bought the great tales and the silmarillion along with the books of lost tales and unfinished tales because of this channel
