I started a plant from a leaf cutting about 2 years ago, once it rooted I planted in a 12" pot from there it just kept shooting out new plants, it's been very root bound for at least a year now and gets a lot of sun everyday (I'm in FL). Well just today I noticed 3 of them are starting to bloom. I never even knew they could bloom till a few years ago, can't wait for the flowers.
I inherited my snake plant 3 years ago from my step-father when he died! It was a baby, only two shoots about 4 in high! Last week I noticed something coming up out of the middle of one of the shoots!! I'm so happy to learn about this plant, and can't wait to smell it soon!! Thanks for your video...
Wow I have a snake plant i didn’t no it bloom thanks for sharing
Mine is blooming this week or the next maybe. It has gotten tall and droplets of sap have been sitting on it for a week or two. I can't wait to see and smell mine!
I have two large snake plants in 8" pots that I got from Lowe's a couple years ago. They are both in South facing windows with a large roof overhang outside. They both bloomed and out out new growth last summer. The blossoms on mine smelled the strongest at night and sort of opened further. I have had snake plants in the past that never bloomed, but I didn't know they liked being in bright light.
I think I’m about to see one. Thanks for the great video and information.
It is a rare occcurence. My sister had one in the kitchen window, it was covered by the curtain and one day I visited her and notice the aromatic smell and sure enough her sensaveria was in bloom!! And she had not even noticed it yet.
Have a great weekend. 🙂
mines blooming now
My snake plant is in the front yard facing SW in full SE Texas sun, uh 100+° heat. It was here when we moved in 8+ yrs ago. Last week for the 1st time EVER I noticed that it had a sprout coming out of the initial plant and 2 more sprouting off a secondary plant. This is a plant that dies off in the 1 "winter" month we actually get but comes back around the end of February, and multiplies, every year. I've had a snake plant in the past and it never flowered. So I had to Google image search when I saw mine doing it because I had no idea it could flower. Of the 3 it has none of them smell at all. One is spent and the other 2 are still growing so I'll have to keep an er, nose lol, on it to know if it actually smells.
Since I now know that the plant is one of the rare ones that does flower I'm going to dig part of it up and transplant it to a planter for when we move so I can enjoy it for many years to come. That is if it repeats! After more than 8 yrs of them not flowering who knows if it'll do it again lol.
How often does it bloom?
I have had my plant for at least 30 years. It has never had a bloom. My Mom had this same plant for 20 years no blooms. Is there something you can do to help it bloom?
