Today I install an LED lighting strip in my stairway railing to better illuminate the steps. Safety first! Here is a link to my LED review video. • LED Tape Lights, LED U...
I don't have a table saw sadly, any very raw DIY ideas for someone with little tools? I'd preferably not go under the house and just wrap some wiring to a plug as well. I just don't know how to get a groove in the handle. All videos show table saw work :(
I drilled a hole by the railing support and fed the LED strip through that and down the wall into the crawl space and plugged it into an outlet. You can make it a switched outlet but many LED strip lights have a remote control and you can turn the lights off and one and control the dimmer settings and colours.
They have a power supply that plugs into regular 120V household outlets. The link is the video at the end of the video but I'll add a link to the description also.
@@robsgaragewoodworkin so a cord would show dangling from your hand rail and plugging into a wall outlet somewhere. I know this sounds like a silly question but a cord would definately subtract from the coolness of having a hidden light source under the hand rail.
@@vernonsteinkamp1088 the light strip runs from the bottom (the end of the strip is at the bottom of the railing) and runs up the railing and is affixed to the railing support and the small access hole is right beside the support and is cable tied to it. You can’t see it at the bottom of the stairs or at the top of the stairs. You need to get on your hands and knees to see it. The strip runs into the wall cavity and into the crawl space where it is plugged in. You can’t see anything other than the light strip embedded in the railing.
@@robsgaragewoodworkin oh ok, I guess I overlooked that part also. That worked out very nicely. Thanks for accommodating my questions and thanks for posting. Sounds like you may be in Canada.
Plugged it into the outlet in my crawl space and ran the LED strip up the wall and out through a hole in the drywall by the railing support bracket and mounted the strip in a rabbet cut out of the underside of the railing with double sided tape.

Great idea. Did you consider a motion sensor outlet. Westek MLC12BC-4 Indoor Plug-in Corded Motion Activated Light Control
Yes I considered it but that adds to install difficulties. In another location perhaps. Thanks for the info!
Cheers!

Fab 🥰🥰
Two questions please, How did you wire them and how could you make it a switch unit? Thanks.

I didn't catch what supplies the power to the lights. Also I looked for the link that you mentioned but didn't see it.
