I believe what Father says. Most of the THINGS we have available today can lead to sin. I avoid most movies. I don't have cable or any tv set up in my home. I listen and watch sacred videos. I am very careful to watch what videos I watch. Many are made by false prophets.

I can't stand the LoTR ( I am talking about the movie). It's creepy, awful and scary in some way. It's not a nice entertainment. I'd say there are many more Catholic elements in the Dolan's Batman trilogy than in the LoTR.

I'd agree that a lot of fantasy literature is occult-based, particularly the Harry Potter series. However, the images accompanying this part of the sermon displaying CS Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings books are the reason why few of even good will ever take this kind of reactionary seriously. To suggest that these classics are just antichrist junk demonstrates any kind of understanding of the authors and intent and content behind these wonderful books. I mean, Tolkein was a devout Catholic who laced his literature with Catholic themes, and, heck, Narnia is a Very thinly veiled direct allegory of Christ's salvific mission. May I gently say that we need to be cautious of contradicting this good priest - what he states is true and if one says " hang on a second - Tolkien was a good Catholic" - one has doubted the entire sermon. Same with the Fictions of CS Lewis....They were all Pushed by Parish Priests as, "Greatest Books Ever written for Children, of All Ages"! We were totally decieved by the Fictional Stories because of the authors very real Christian values, as expressed in their Non-fictional Writing's.... Thanks to Sensus Fidelium's Homilies, @ 76 I have seen how Protected I have been Protection I was completely Unaware of until now! I have a Thorough, Sound Knowledge of our RC Faith.... I've read the Church Father's, Authentic RC History, Aquinas, Augustine, Theresa's, & All of our Doctors....( even the Vat II Documents!) My point is simply....I have Read the Pope's Encyclicals, & continued to learn as much as possible about our Faith....Even with that, I was unaware of WHY or WHAT Exactly, was Wrong or lacking, in certain "Catholic" based Books...(Not just Fiction, the Self Help stuff was usually obvious in Error) So, Thank you All, again...You're in our Prayers...Your decision to be "Anonnymous", is truly inspired by the HS...

A lot of what Father here says makes sense. But I only have one objection: JRR Tolkien’s books are some of the most brilliant books ever written, with Catholic themes, symbols, and the author himself being a devout Catholic. What’s evil about this? Likewise for CS Lewis, who himself was influenced by Tolkein and also wrote about the Faith and Christianity.
You always read how people keep on defending C.S Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien as good Christian authors, so their fantasy works should not be forbidden. But, what does GOD Himself have to say about that, in His Holy Scriptures, and through His Church? Do we ever seriously ask ourselves that, or do we just assume that because we like Lewis & Tolkien Fantasies, GOD will, or should, also have no problem with them? "The Narnia Chronicles" and "The Lord of the Rings" deal with themes and concepts that were very heavily anti-Christian, or that were, at least, forbidden and condemned in the Bible. The use of magic is just one example. Just because sci-fi or fantasy books are written by "Christian authors" does not automatically make them wholesome or worthwhile books to read, ever, especially if they violate any of the 10 Commandments, or if they constantly glamorize or glorify any form of "divination" (use of magic, wizardry, sorcery, astrology, numerology, etc).
Good point. All comes down to detachment. If you're attached to anything/anyone more than God, it is a problem. That includes your favorite Christian authors. Heck, it even includes your own family members. If they are a source of sin, treat them accordingly.

When the Bible mentions that we should not create images to worship, it refers to false gods, pagan gods.
It does not forbid to have images of Jesus, Crucifixes, images of Mary, God's angels or the Saints (our brothers in Christ).
If only you understood how God wants to be worshiped: Holy Mass and Eucarist. That is how Catholics worship God, not the images, the real God. The Carholic Church has the real living God.

However, the images accompanying this part of the sermon displaying CS Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings books are the reason why few of even good will ever take this kind of reactionary seriously. To suggest that these classics are just antichrist junk demonstrates any kind of understanding of the authors and intent and content behind these wonderful books. I mean, Tolkein was a devout Catholic who laced his literature with Catholic themes, and, heck, Narnia is a Very thinly veiled direct allegory of Christ's salvific mission. I'm sorry padre, but you're waaaay off base here.

You always read how people keep on defending C.S Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien as good Christian authors, so their fantasy works should not be forbidden. But, what does GOD Himself have to say about that, in His Holy Scriptures, and through His Church? Do we ever seriously ask ourselves that, or do we just assume that because we like Lewis & Tolkien Fantasies, GOD will, or should, also have no problem with them?
"The Narnia Chronicles" and "The Lord of the Rings" deal with themes and concepts that were very heavily anti-Christian, or that were, at least, forbidden and condemned in the Bible. The use of magic is just one example.
Just because sci-fi or fantasy books are written by "Christian authors" does not automatically make them wholesome or worthwhile books to read, ever, especially if they violate any of the 10 Commandments, or if they constantly glamorize or glorify any form of "divination" (use of magic, wizardry, sorcery, astrology, numerology, etc).
Good point. All comes down to detachment. If you're attached to anything/anyone more than God, it is a problem. That includes your favorite Christian authors. Heck, it even includes your own family members. If they are a source of sin, treat them accordingly.
