    That child experiment was the best thing I've heard in decades...terrible to tell kids there heathen sinners, sets them up to fail...isn't that kind ..merciful..forgiving...filled with Grace...

    I think what Shermer says at about 11:35 gets to the hub of the matter, .. when you are in that religious bubble, the faith you follow makes perfect sense, but once you are able to see things from outside that comfort bubble, you begin to see a whole new perspective and things make a lot more sense.

    • @gotcha9983
      @gotcha9983 3 роки тому +1

      Opposite for me. Things made a lot more sense to me after being devoured and knocked down my whole life..living in chaos and confusion. God saved my life renewed my mind heart body soul and gave me clarity. Its a matter of experience. Trauma has a way of opening other perspectives and perceptions...how can there not be a creator? Scientists even recognize this ...this is a boxed in closed minded psychology ..there is a spirit in us ..energy is real and soul is real.

    It literally just blows my mind that anyone still believes in religion but I think as the enternet spreads and along with it knowledge people will collectively stop believing in religion as we know it, I don’t deny some sort of god but it’s probably not what we think it is and is certainly not what religion says it is

  • @adamarmstrong622

    It almost bugs me people even believe in religion anymore because it just proves to me how hypocritical they are because none of them actually practice what they preach and that they literally live in complete denial because they like it and not because it’s true

    • @gotcha9983
      @gotcha9983 3 роки тому

      Nope. People are sinners. We are not perfect and we recognize this. I have addictions and I am always trying to be a better person and I take Jesus with me on my journey. Its not hypocritical..we are learning growing and changing until the end..hopefully better at the end and ready to meet our maker..asking for forgiveness for our sins is healthy for our peace and well being..forgiving others release negative thoughts and feelings..letting go and giving burden to God ..it is healing. Jesus loves you more than you can imagine

      I don't think parents who believe such things ever intend on the harm it does to a childs psychological development. It's a psychological disorder that is highly contagious. I don't blame my parents for influencing me because by chance it's given me a deeper insight on human pyschology as well as my own and made mature as a person. I'm still struggling with the side effects of being raised evangelist christian and babtist and Presbyterian. At a young age I was subjected to many different churchs and to
      'fellow Christians" different beleifs, some more extreme than others. Being raised by people who have no cognition of human psychology or their own. Being led to beleive in literal boogie man and another one that watches every thing you do. Which I believe are causing symptoms of schizophrenia in young highly imaginative children. Which becomes increasingly difficult the more you are subjected to and are around other people who have these delkusional ideas of reality. That have no cognition of the psycholigical impact it has on them and people they influence. Which is why I say its a contagious condition. I also believe that at one point it was possibly a necessary stage and result of our evolutionary mental development to have this hierarchal sysytem of order and authority over the less knowledgeable or holy and authoritive, survival of the fittest. Now in the age of information and computers with highspeed internet. We don't generally as educated society need religion and a God to instruct our moral mainframe of ideology. I would have to agree with Michael Shermer on every point. Thank you for this lecture, as it has helped me verify my own conceptions of how religion impacts society and our psychology as a species.

    Reading the books of the New Testament, we probably asked ourselves more than once: *"Why 2000 years we do not see those miracles that accompanied the Сhurch of Christ in the I century, as described in the New Testament?"* Why do the so-called preachers of Christ have to prove that Jesus really existed and atheists boldly deny the historicity or divine origin of Christ? Maybe because the Сhurch of Christ has not existed for 2000 years?
    The Сhurch does not exist in the form in which it is presented in the books of the New Testament, but there are Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and other christian sects claiming to be the place of the Church, but they not have the only thing that distinguishes the divine from the human and is characteristic of just the Сhurch of Christ -the reinforcement of the word with signs, that is, miracles (Mark 16:15-20). Therefore, some researchers doubt the historicity of Christ, and some of them are not opposed to declaring him a an ordinary philosopher, teacher. But even if Jesus were an ordinary philosopher, his disciples would be ordinary followers of Jesus. And they would not dare to write about the miracles that not only Jesus, but also his disciples, could perform. In this world, the great fertility of atheism can be explained by the fact that there is no main opponent of critics of the Bible - the Church. If there were the Church in our time as described by the authors of the New Testament books, where miracles are performed, the sick are healed, where prophesied, and the dead are raised, no one would doubt the historicity of Christ. Then there would be the same controversy throughout the world as in the first century - Jesus the Son of God or the false prophet who seduces the world by miracles. As a result, we can say that the emergence and development of christian sects and atheism was the result of the fact that over the 2000 years the Сhurch of Christ did not exist.

    It makes me sad that people don’t and can’t understand why people believe in religion. It is very obvious why they do and in short it is a way of killing oneself mentally. Shutting down part of the mind that experiences a lot of pain from the absurdity of this world.
    It helps alleviate so much pain, provides hope when there is nothing (say a child dying from a cancer), and gives a purpose to humanity answer why questions that science can’t answer. Like why are we here.

    Muslims do not discount Christianity and Judaism as a way to God. Muslims believe throughout history God has tried to communicate with humans. Muslims hold consciousness is an evolving state and sould are not sstatic so death is just part of the universe's consciousness.
    “Atheism is without God. It does not assert no God. The atheist does not say that there is no God, but he says 'I know not what you mean by God. I am without the idea of God. The word God to me is a sound conveying no clear or distinct affirmation. I do not deny God, because I cannot deny that of which I have no conception, and the conception of which by its affirmer is so imperfect that he is unable to define it for me.”

      It sounds like you're an agnostic, Atheist though, if you understand the differences between gnostic vs agnostic.

      In his book, The Believing Brain, Michael Shermer says he's an agnostic because you can't prove that God does or doesn't exist scientifically, but he prefers to be called a skeptic because it gets the point across that he doesn't subscribe to any supernatural explanations.

If these nuts can promote their fairy-tales and expect for the world to just treat these as facts, then yes, one is entitled to ridicule them in an insulting way.

    He’s right. A natural God that we can see would be what we’re looking for. Wouldn’t it be crazy if God came to dwell in human form with us 2,000 years ago to prove he wasn’t some far off deity who controlled things from the supernatural realm? Oh, maybe that did happen…

    has anyone actually read the religious text they hold so dear?
    I know noone who actually read the original bible and whatever text that is considered to be an english or other local langugage translation is a work of men.
    From what I understand Arabic langugage has also evolved from the time of original Quran and peope have a hard time understanding it and non Arabic muslims have the same translation issue.
    From the above there is a very clear issue that men who translate/interpret the text are in positions of supreme auhority over mostly ignorant belivers.

    The other gods are tricksters and demons. God the Father of Jeaus is the one true God. Creator of all things..even the creator of those othe gods. Ok. I think it is foolish to think we can understand anything so profound. We are not meant to understand everything. Be open in mind and heart...this lecture is closed minded and bias. sometimes atheists are angry that God has not open their eyes to the Truth yet. When it happens...there is no doubt.
