I have followed your column since the beginning and what attracts me most are your commonsense attitude to the problems people seek help with., so I will keep it as short as I can. My older brother (58) spent almost thirty years years as a fisherman on the west coast of Ireland. As he reached 50, our parents were now living alone and in failing health, it was decided that my brother should become their carer. A very big but very caring gentleman, the injuries he sustained at sea over the the decades, began to return so that his knees, shoulders and other such joints are now all very painful. He had not attended a doctor for almost thirty as while he worked constant constantly, the pain was bearable. My point is that after all these years not seeing a doctor, the doctor he attended asked for no bloods to be taken, not did she even take his blood pressure. Was this just carelessness or plain lack of interest. Would we be better finding a different doctor for him who might take more interest and make his life less painful . Again I am most sorry for taking up your valuable time, but your advice would mean so much to brother and the rest of the family. With grateful thank Robert Townsend.

Great logic! When I competed, I always lived by the motto, less is more, and cycle on, cycle off, play it safely! I also got in, got out and after seeing what the pros and National level guys were doing up close & personal, I got scared away, discouraged & stopped competing & using anabolics completely (i only took them in order to be competetive in the first place). I love this piece!

I think you just have to ask yourself what you’re doing it for and if it’s worth it. Are you trying to be the biggest guy in the room or at the gym? Are you just wanting to look good at the beach? The problem I see with people who use gear is that they end up thinking they are wasting their time in the gym unless they are on a cycle. That’s really unfortunate and is a form of psychological addiction. The fact remains that steroids cause high blood pressure, alter blood lipid panels, cause mood disturbances, etc. Just because you say “it’s due to the steroids and will be gone after I finish the cycle” doesn’t change the fact that it’s happening and that your body is responding to it and possibly being damaged in the process. He’s right. Get in and get out. Using steroids in any capacity for a lifetime isn’t the best health decision.

    • @hunterupton5809

He's coming off test completely. That's what the HCG is for. Test shuts natural production off, HCG turns test production on. Not sure if he's waiting after his cycle to start HCG but you should wait 1 month after a cycle to start HCG otherwise it's counterproductive.

Being new here, I'm curious if the good doctor will answer generic questions submitted by viewers? I am not trying to get patient specific questions answered, I know answering specific questions about a patient would not only put his livelihood in jeopardy and that could also put his license into legal jeopardy and that's not my intention at all! I'm looking for information on males who's had a successful gastric bypass surgery almost a decade ago and using generic compounds like test & considering the anatomy changes! He may have even spoke about this already and if so could someone point it out to me...
