I saw a naruto reverence when May's ante was running
The #15 jersey worn by Tyler is that of Toronto Raptors legend Vince Carter.
Timbits reference :)
The statues are actually named “Bert & Lisa” an obvious nod to “The Raccoons” which is one of the most iconic Canadian shows ever! When I caught that reference, my jaw hit floor!!!
I really loved how supportive Mei's friends were after learning her secret. They love and care for her unconditionally, accepting her just as she is. ♥️
Ikr, they never abandoned her they stayed by her side like true friends do.
That was honestly one of my favorite things about the movie. Not just her friends reaction but all the kids in the school.
also they are supportive of Prya possibly being LGBTQ+. Remember in 2002 when gayness was avoided like the plague and mocked in movies and even your closest friends could turn on you if you ever even had the reputation to be gay?? yeah, these friends open mindness to it is like a pretty big deal.
💖
Something sadly we don’t get enough of in most movies like this. Usually the MC is an outsider with a BF, it’s rarely ever a group
I liked that this film was set in Canada, since we got to see plenty of Candian landmarks, such as Tim Hortons, or the CNN Tower. There's also legendary Candian Sandra Oh as Ming! 🇨🇦
I only noticed once she said "hoser" 🤣 I was like wait a sec
Yeah, Timbits - for breakfast
Yeah!
It's CN* Tower with one N in it.
Tim’s is a landmark? Hmmmmmm
Was really impressed by this movie, the maturity, the nostalgia, the themes throughout the movie. This movie actually made me teary eye in the final 3rd (no spoilers) but very happy with this movie.
Maturity? So a red panda twerking and their mum is mature?
@@chaosqueen1703 they discuss puberty, the menstrual cycle, hint at a queer relationship, touch on hormones making the body aroused. All was done in good taste but it was touching mature topics
@@rigobertoalcantar9519 that may be true but she wqs still twerking at her mom infront of her favourite boy band
@@chaosqueen1703 you know how many people do that though? Maybe weird to you and I , but some people are comfortable like that with their parents 🤷🏽♂️ so it’s still realistic
@@rigobertoalcantar9519 thats just a bad example to children then
When Mei was jumping when the red moon was behind, it looked like a reference to the Girl Who Leapt Through Time. And some of the elements of were movie were anime like especially the sparkly eyes!!!

Another one: At the start of the film, Mei shouts "Besties, assemble!", which Marvel fans will recognize as a nod to the iconic catchphrase "Avengers, assemble!". And considering this and the lead actors for Onward and Lightyear, someone at Pixar is obviously a Marvel fan.
lol cool
Disney "OWNS", Pixar, Marvel, Lucas Films, Sony Pictures. . . so obviously, these "movie" producers and writers are TOLD, to work in as many "Easter eggs" from other branches of Disney as possible.
Disney "STOLE" this idea from Pixar/John Lasseter, which Pixar was doing, WAAAAAAAAY before Disney bought Pixar in 2006.
Considering Pixar and Marvel are both owned by Disney, it could even be someone works at both or people who work at both are friends.
@@nomoresaul I think the second one is more likely, since, with Marvel Studios entering into animation (previous shows were handled by other Marvel subsidiaries), some executives said they would be happy to work with Pixar or Walt Disney Animation Studios under the right circumstances.
Come to think of it, maybe some Marvel and Pixar executives met via actors who worked for both studios, like Samuel L. Jackson. Maybe they had some sort of party and executives from both were invited. Alternatively, they met in some executive reunion in the main Walt Disney Studios building at Burbank.
@@nomoresaul Yeah. . .
I mean. . . there are still Pixar animators at the Pixar HQ in Emeryville, California.
And Marvel Studio and Disney Animations Studio are both in Burbank.
But Disney has been doing a lot of changes the last 5-6 years. . . and mixing/blending animators from Sony Animation Studios, Disney and Pixar is definitely going on.
And then you have George Lucas's "I.L.M." Studios (this is where John Lasseter created Pixar, after being fired from Disney, for wanting to introduce computers to animation. Ironic, right?), which Disney ALSO owns now, and they do A LOT of CGI work for the Marvel & Disney movies. Example, they put George Lucas' "Howard the Duck" in "Guardians of the Galaxy" as an Easter egg, and there are A LOT of Mickey head & ears in a few Marvel movies, if you have a good eye to find them.
Really loved this movie. Loved the Mai had real girl problems and had a diverse group of girlfriends to support her. Finally, good job disney.
As a linguist, I really loved when Abby realised her mistake and went off in Korean. lol. I enjoyed Turning Red waaaay more than I thought I would though.
Right cause using languages others don't know around you just to show you're angry isn't rude at all.

While easter eggs and references are things that i wasn't really looking for in the movie, i found the story to be quite interesting!
I dunno but I think the size of Mei's mother's Panda symbolizes the pressures she got from Mei's grandmother. The more pressure and secrets kept inside makes a large bomb that when explodes is very destructive. That's how I view it, how about you guys?
Yep, and to add, she also fought for her husband Jin against her mother, because she doesn't approve of him. So that also adds up to Ming's anger, which says a lot why her panda side is huge.
I agree
Fun fact, along Chinatown in Toronto, at one of the streetcar stops, there is a restaurant named bao... that was a truly double reference to Spadina Ave (chinatown) and to the short film
Pretty sure Mei's mom causing the grandma's scar was as explicit as subtlety can get. She touches the scar when talking about Mei's mom's panda, and iirc Mei's mom mentions hurting her mother when she transformed.
I spotted the Pizza Planet Truck parked on the street during Mei's run to the SkyDome after she abandoned her ritual ceremony!
0:22 why do some if the kids have white stickers in their arms?
My youngest son is named Devin and we all laughed when the scene involved the girls eyecanding Devon. Now Devin loves doing a foot stomp and yelling awhoo.
LOL that's adorable!
AWOOOOGA!!! 😂
When Mei and her best friends are sitting on the roof looking at the pool, you can see the Pixar ball floating inside the pool.
I grew up in Beijing and I really love how they get a lot of Chinese details right:
4 is an unlucky number, because it is pronounced similar to "si", which means death. Some buildings don’t have the floor number 4 and some (especially hospitals) don’t have 14th floor, because it can be pronounced "yao si": about to die
When Jin, Mei's father, picks up the telephone he says 喂 (wei)?, the Chinese greeting when picking up the phone
The meals are Chinese styled: porridge for breakfast, dad’s cooking with the frying pan, making Bao Zi or “dumplings” together as a family while watching TV, the circular spinning family dining table, the food, and the chopsticks in the family dinner scene before the ritual
The signs and art style in front of Mei's desk that says Work, Study, Listen. For me it is very reminiscent of the style of stationary everyone in elementary and middle school used in Beijing
Mei's family shortens Meilin to Mei Mei, a common childhood nickname that family members call Chinese kids
The temple: although everything in the Lee family temple is remade into red pandas, everything from the architecture to stone lions to the fish pond is very Chinese styled
The TV show Mei and Ming watched when making Bao Zi: Chinese people love costume dramas set in ancient dramas
The father’s accent
The Chinese paintings, the characters, even the stamps and calligraphy in the temple
The traditional instruments in the music
This movie take us back to the early 2000's like playing with our tamagotchi's
listen to radio disney and watching fox family that has S club 7
2002: A year after September 11, Pokemon ruby & Sapphire, Treasure Planet, Lilo & Stitch, Halo, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Tamagotchi, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, these are some things that come to mind when I think of this year.
The scene which the kids took their cellphones out for Panda Pics at 202 (We call them dumbphones), those were the good old days before smartphones became the norm
You forgot Metroid Prime. Also, Halo Combat Evolved came out in 2001, not 2002.
Definitely one of my favourite Pixar movies by far!
@SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star stfu its not the worst.atleast its better then midcanto
@SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star shut up
@@yospynx1446 Encanto wasn't Pixar. It was just Disney.
@SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star
No it's not!
Teenagers do things that are "cringe" to boomers like you. That's the point of the entire finale if you watched the movie.
Also, it marks the "change" in a person as they grow up and hit puberty, which the movie also conveys.
Also also, you're a Twitter user, so your point is invalid.
Also also also, your mom...
Satanist , luminati , vampire worshipers , technology worshipers , demon worshipers , devil worshipers , free masons , lizards worshipers ,ku klux klan and other evil worshipers , they are spreading their religion or organization by fashion clothing ,media such as movies , music , public signs and cartoons , they show us basically their style of life or living . There is only one Almighty that is God . Thuma mina .
I just heard from behind the scenes of Turning Red that the movie takes place in the Toy Story universe. Interesting 🤔 ❤️👍
It’s the Pixar Universe, from all the Disney Pixar films.
@@nikki9125 That's a theory.
This is such a good movie. I loved the early 2000s references with their attire such as butterfly clips in the hair and plastic choker necklaces. This movie is at once nostalgic and refreshing. It covers a new topic for Disney in a familiar and fun way.
Red Panda Meiling and Sulley from Monsters Inc would be an awesome tag team
Now THAT'S a crossover we can all get behind
“The food your mother makes to keep you from leaving home” damn that kinda hit me. No wonder my mom felt a lost once I (the youngest of 3 girls) and the last one to move out started a life with my bf/fiancé and later on I became vegan, i didn’t see any of it as a big deal but small changes cuz I was still her child but in her view I was a whole new different person. I loved my mom’s fried chicken & ham sandwiches but I just now enjoy the smells of her kitchen and looks of her cooking
5:09 you can know it's the early 2000 because of the calender in the scene where Mei find out why she's a red panda
She literally says “Panda apocalypse in 2002” at 5:52 as well
I tought you would include Meimei's drawing of her friends as Sailor Guardians, from Sailor Moon
here’s one:
Since mei is 13 and the movie is set in 2002, that would mean that she was born in 1989.
The starting scene from the Incredibles (when mr incredible met elastigirl) was also set it 1989, since it was 15 years before 2004.
Uh, the Incredibles takes place in the 60s
No. It just means Mei was 15 when The Incredibles came out
As a Canadian, seeing a Disney/Pixar movie based in Canada and seeing specific Canadian things like the Timbits or the CNN tower, I was sooooo happy!!! I literally screamed when I saw the box of Timbits, or the sign at the front of the school saying "Canadian Indigenous People's History Month". I absolutely loved this movie!!
same!
I'd like to point out the Pusheen Cat parody plush that Mei sleeps with
Thats Pugsheen . An actual character in the pusheen universe
dude when priya came up with her "nightfall" book i literally screamed 😂
" You can speculate the film takes place around the early 2000's, due to the noticeable 'talk to the hand' sticker"
*yeah, also cause it tells us it's 2002. like multiple times.*
There was one you missed: in the scene where Mei throws a dodgeball, her arm gets pandafied, and she threw it with great force. If you didn't get it, it was most likely a reference to BNA where Michiru throws a baseball with such force.
YES!!!! i was thinking the exact same thing! 😁😁
0:22 why do some if the kids have white stickers in their arms?
The book priya Has Named "Nightfall" which seems to be knock-off version of Twilight and When Priya Asks mei "Are you Werewolf?"It Might to Reference to Werewolf character in Twilight and Probably nightfall and If you Squint enough You can notice the Book cover of nightfall Which Has 1 couple which might be Direct referrence For Bella and Edward And we can see few character Which might be Edward Siblings or Jacobs pack and Since the Movie takes place in Early 2000s When Twilight was Famous it makes sense
I really loved this movie, this was like a Canadian Pixar Movie!
One of the boy band members(the blonde one) looks like one of the BTS boys. I think it's Jin during the Map of the soul personal days. My daughter who is Army noticed it.
This movie was adorable and an utter delight!
2 characters almost look a like other Disney characters
Miriam - Alberto scorfano (Luca)
Priya - Mirabel madrigal (encanto)
Well it took over twenty years for Pixar and seventy for Disney to set a movie in Canada FINALLY, Toronto is Toronto not New York or Chicago or any city in The US
A decade before Justin Beaver..
Another one is that Mei's mother, grandmother, and aunts are all wearing blue and green colors, which are associated with calmness.
Mei primarily wears pinks and reds, fiery wild colors.
I love Burrow!!! Love the Easter egg in this film!
How could I not notice when 4*Town did a move from the Backstreet Boys
Jin is such an underrated character.
He is so sweet 🥺
9:21 the sign for the red art room is a red panda! Hmmm, interesting
There is one more Easter egg:
Tyler's birthday was March 17th. The movie takes place in 2002, and on March 17th of that year, Wrestlemania was held... in the SkyDome. They probably heard all of the cheers and whatnot from the party.
EDIT: My mistake. The movie takes place in May 2002 (fitting, since the main character is MEI), not March 2002. I apologize.
But Wrestlemania was at the SkyDome in March of 2002.
Fun fact, on the table in Mei's house when the family is having breakfast, you can spot a box of Timbits from Tim Hortons with the original logo
Yeah, Timmies!!!
Mei's aunties transformation into red panda has a hint of Power Rangers/Super Sentai vibe
can we talk about how the book that Priya was reading is Twilight but in the movie it was "Nightfall"
Another easter egg is how a blue jay lands in front of the sky dome, home of the baseball team, the toronto blue jays
I love it when Priya just says things that you would normally say super expressively but instead just says them very monotonously… says a lot about personality (I am totally the same)
I just noticed that the mom sais "what about dinner? I made all your favorites" but we know it's the dad that cooks in this family
Statistically, at least one member of 4*Town probably went on to host Saturday Night Live
I was looking everywhere for the pizza planet truck, I didn't see it.
Also which scene hit you harder: When Mei chose her mom over her friends or when Luca denied himself in front of Bruno becoming a sea creature?
I saw that.
Ugh!! Hard to choose. Both movies are amazing
@@megansullivan3135 Indeed they are. I like Turning Red a tad more though.
Dude, Bruno wasn't his name, it was Alberto.
There are two female characters with an omnipod on which is a type 1 diabetic insulin supply....susan fong , who is a rendering supervisor for turning red, included this because she too is diabetic
Did anyone else spot the 10 pack of Tim bits in the Tim Horton's box on the table the morning Mei turned into the red panda?
So many people hate on this movie and I don’t know why, it’s cringy towards the beginning but honestly except for that it’s really great! I love that the movie was somewhat mature and the ending doesn’t feel forced like a classic Pixar Ending, it feels earned! Nice Pixar! 😁
The first thing my mom said when she first saw the trailer was: this is basically a female teenwolf 😂
Typical copycat generation
The olden days before smartphones are a thing. My neighbor's kid loves to play his virtual pet, the Tamagotchi. I did not own one, but those were quite popular back then.
The two details I found in 4*town are the outfits and the dance on the rubble. The Backstreet Boys definitely are the references they came from.
I KNEW THAT SCENE WITH MEI AND HER FRIENDS GOOGLING OVER PRIYA AND THE GOTH GIRL MEANT SOMETHING
So cool that there’s a reference to it in Luca!
the skull on the skateboard i think is a nod to sid's skull t-shirt
On the back of Miriam’s skate board did have lots of LightYear related things, such as the Star Command symbols, but also Sox, the cat that went with Buzz on his adventures in the movie.
Sorta proud I caught that lol
Wow, I was 9 years old in 2002. I would definitely get the early 2000s references. Also, was I the only that wasn't obsessed with boy bands back in the day? I mean, I was into them, but not to the point of obsession. Like, I had an N'SYNC poster and notebook, plus 2 of their CDs, but that was about it. I was more into Pokémon and Disney Channel back then.
I don't know if this was a fever dream or something. But the scene where Mei says "AWOOGA" i think behind her it said Meme. Like the team knew people would turn that into a meme. Though, that could be my mind playing tricks on me.
They literally say in the movie that mei's mom and grandma fought. And she touched the scar when she brought it up.
I never thought 4 town would be something I'm dying for 😂
I like the way the gals yelled "red Panda!" Reminded me of power rangers.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who thought that Tyler might be LGBTQ+.
Idk I’m just glad they didn’t pull the bull crap between Tyler and Mei where it’s like “I was only bullying you because I like you and don’t know how to express it”
I thought so after what happened in the Skydome.
Thanks for the easter eggs!
Glad you like them!
12:44 the way they’re just like YASSSSS KILL IT LES GIRL
“Things you missed in Turning Red”
Me: *the whole thing*
Riley from inside out also appears in the show twice. Which makes sense since Riley is Canadian
LBP Middle school’s sign indicates it’s “Canadian Indigenous People History month” which is a thing but not until June. Oh and started in 2007. I’d like to think that Mei’s Canada is a little more forward than mine.
I caught the Bau call backs!
Yes there was some little details in Turning Red on Disney plus like BAO Callbacks and Teen Wolf Connections and 4 Town Voices and Mei's Flute Case and Canadian Landmarks and The Pizza Planet Truck and Purl and Burrow Bunny and Luxo Ball and A113 and Tripledent Gum and Lightyear
OH MY GOD I LOVE JORDAN FISHER!
What about Riley from inside out? She was in there too
7:58 Hawaiian pizza was originally made in my city, Chatham! Honestly it's always a fun thing to bring up in any conversation.
I love the sene of “Toledo, Ohio”, mainly because I’m from Toledo, Ohio. Her reaction is most people reaction when I tell them that from there…purely confusion and puzzling facial expressions because no one never hear of the city. Only if you are fan of Adam West. In Batman tv show, one of Robert catch phrase is “Holy Toledo, Batman!” Or you from Spain. Only time you know or hear the name Toledo.
It's Not Priya who may be LGBT, it's Tyler. Why else would he be at the 4Town Concert?
They both might be.
I don't know, I don't exactly like the idea of labeling a boy queer just because he is a fan of a boy band. Can't understand why a boy can like a boy band without it being a LGBTQ thing while no one bats an eye when girls like girl groups.
@@aznmochibunny: Or Priya dancing with another girl. Doesn't make her gay. 🤷♀️
@@renaerolley5670 her friends literally looked at each other in a way like “they would be a cute couple”
Yeah I got that more from Tyler than Priya. Besides wasn’t she also checking out the guy at Daisy Mart and mention who her favorite/crush from 4 town.
with the 4town, they reminded me of BTN
Yes I did catch little details in Turning Red on Disney Plus from Pixar movies or on the DVDs like BAO Callbacks and Teen Wolf Connections and 4*Town Voices and Mei's Flute Case and Canadian Landmarks and The Pizza Planet Truck and Purl and Burrow Bunny and Luxo Ball & A113 and Barr & Lisa and Tripledent Gum and The Scar on Mei's Grandma's Face and Priya May Be LGBTQ+ and Lightyear
There was a blink and you’ll miss it Easter egg for Coco. The boy in the hall that catches Meis attention is wearing a shirt with the band name Escapula.
I am surprised no mention of Tim Horton's doughnuts found on the table the morning she first turns into the Red Panda.
The creator of Turning Red actually said that 4 Town is based off of two kpop groups, Big Bang and 2PM
The 2 biggest kpop groups of the 2000s? Had former friend who was a huge Big Bang fan, but they didn't really spread to popularity in the West until 2008.
"It was an accident! I hurt my mom! I didn't mean to!
"The red panda is what came between us" **touches scar**
Mojo: hmmmmmmmmmmm..... how did she get that scar.....
I laughed so much while watching Turning Red. Another great one from Pixar
This may be a spoiler but this movie shows a lot of anime references and I find that pretty cool
lol another thing too her fav stuffed toy is pugsheen (alternative form of pusheen) 😂😂😂
I noticed that the little girl from up had lotso in the corner 👀 10:52
So, I dunno if this is a easter egg but we can guess that Mei was born in China while the one child policy was still intact. (1979-2016) That might be why she is an only child.
Priya is the best!
“OOH, HO-HO-Ho, THAT’S ‘Nothing! You Wanna See ‘CRASS’?!” Meilin ‘Mei’ Lee, 2021
How about a "top 10 concerts in Disney animated films and shorts?" in the future?
that round looking building is like a easter egg to everest
Pixar's Easter Eggs are getting more harder to find
Was this influence by the anime Ranma 1/2?
First time in forever, it's created a children's movie, which I actually enjoyed.
i just realised that the bird at the ending flying to the temple look like Mordecai like bro blue fur with black stripes
I love this video andddd this channel
I like how this video was about the movie's easter eggs and how it was created here in Toronto, Canada!
