Now that Scarlet and Violet are there, I kinda feel like going back and playing Ultra Sun & Moon. Did a playthrough of Sun back then and while it wasn't my favorite Pokemon game, something about it really felt so special and welcoming.
I had the same though and bought it today. I played Vanilla Moon back then and now ill play Ultrasun for the first time.

Definitely one of, if not the best Pokemon games I’ve ever played through. In my copy of Ultra Moon, I completed the Pokedex, got all Poke Pelago islands developed fully, got all 100 TMs, beat the Episode RR (Rainbow Rocket), and caught all Legendaries from the Ultra Wormhole. I’m glad I pre-ordered these amazing games! Keep up the good work Game Freak!

Adoring it so far. It reminded me so much of my first playthrough of Moon and at the same time, I feel it did a great amount that stopped it from being a rehash.

People are complaining about this game being exactly the same, even though Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and other sequels were pretty similar to their previous games.
Also if they made it a DLC people would be even more mad complaining about how there isn’t a sequel game.
Some folks are just never satisfied...
Game Freak has even made it clear that they're against DLC. Having played through Sun/Moon 5 times, I actually noticed A LOT of differences in USUM. It's just that most of the differences are small and not easily noticeable until you reach Poni Island

Well people are expecting Necrozma and Ultra Recon Squad to be more important in the story (at least for me), but what we got is basically a plot identical to the original Sun Moon, the modified story board is actually less sensible than SM (especially how Lusamine is handled awkwardly in USUM), Necrozma's plot is as little and as negligible as Platinum's Giratina (yes i am one of those folks that thinks Pt is meh in differences) but GF decided to sell it as an extremely huge plot when it is just an insignificant modification to the game. Come on, can you exactly tell the difference the two Ultra Recon Squad members made to the story in US and UM (and basically the whole story as a whole)? It's far from experiencing a different story.
Sure you can seperate the game as halves like what they did in BW2, but BW2's storyboard change and style is huge from BW (regardless if it sucked or not, of which I think both BW and BW2 are pretty good), and when they say there will be huge differences people are expecting BW's level of differences and awesomeness especially when they have 2 separate games, and how much hype they've made when they released the trailer "this is not the Alola you knew" thing.
People are complaining about this being "$40 DLC". Remember Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and maybe B2W2? Why are you complaining about this now?

Jowe has a point. DLC wasn't really a thing back then. However, Game Freak has made it clear that they're against DLC. Plus, these games are basically what Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum were to those original counterparts, so I don't see what was wrong with doing it again for Sun/Moon

This game was a blast! Why do people hate on it so much?! 😂
People hate it so much because:
- so many unskippable cutscenes
- they twisted the story only slightly from the original and somehow made it worse
- some of the new features should have been in the original SM, namely the Photo Club, Mantine Surf, and Kantonian Gym (because they occupied the empty lots across the region). I hate Game Freak for doing this. This just showed that SM were incomplete games. And I think even the Ultra Warp Ride should have been in the originals because SM really did those Ultra Beasts dirty.
I personally LOVE this game, probably my 2nd favorite. But yeah it would have been better if they only released one complete version instead of releasing the incomplete first OR they should have made this game as a sequel instead of a slightly different story.
I want All the Gyms and Alola in one game getting steadily harder with each Gym and starting with a choice of 1 starter from any region

Blue Toad honestly I feel you man, for some reason the alola games have stuck with me more then any other games from the characters to the story to the music in my opinion it was a great way to end off with such an amazing generation, I hope one day wee see a revive of this game.

it literally would be just as different as bw2 if they didnt make you take the same path as sun/moon. the only difference between the differences of bw2 and usum is in bw2 you go to the postgame towns of bw during the main story of bw2. bw2 are my favorite pokemon games ever but people acting like usum isnt different from SM probably havent played both of them fully. every minute i play through ultra sun i notice differences, its so much more than emerald/platinum and is way closer to bw2.
This is really just an improved version of the original game with some changes to the story. I love it!

Kodiak Kodiak Because long-time Pokémon fans expect BETTER from Game Freak. We expect MORE than just fanservice making up half of the changes. We expect MORE than such a recent third version that's been split in half, negating the purpose of a definitive version. We expect MORE from this franchise, especially how there's been such a noticeable drop in quality ever since Gen 5 ended.

Alright I’ll just be up front. If you think this game is bad because it’s just a “simple third version”, you’re not a real Pokémon fan. Sure, these games might seem like just a filler Game Freak made while waiting for the switch games. But, they are amazing games, I’ll just list a couple things

FOUR evil teams
Huge post game
Over 100 new amazing Pokémon
While I still prefer the gyms over the trials the Totem Pokémon were new and challenging
USUM are more difficult than SM
New areas
The UI looks amazing
Brand New UB’s
And finally the graphics do look a little bit better
I totally agree. I've really enjoyed playing through USUM. I had no problem playing through Alola again cuz I enjoyed it the first time. The new additions just made the experience even more fun

The Rainbow Rocket epilogue was complete fan service, and I loved it.
I cry a little bit every time I watch anything relating to SM and USUM, since the prior was my first ever Pokemon game. The alola region just holds a very special place in my heart, and I’m doing a new play through of USUM right now.
This was the best Pokemon game to date! Great job to you Game Freak!

After seeing a bunch of comments and people complaining about USUM with no reason as to why the ALTERNATE story of the game suck, I'd love to see how people get hype over Pokemon "Switch," "Stars," "Eclipse," or whatever it would be called and then let their guard down and wish that "Nintendo" could do better, not GameFreak who makes the Pokemon games. Come on... give them credit, you're acting like they don't exist.
I'm pretty sure that sometime in the future, people will say these games were good cuz they hate the current ones. That's seemed to be a pattern with Pokemon games

I like it so far. It's mostly the same so far but the UI is improved and suits the tropical theme better. I also enjoy spotting the differences so far. This feels like a more finished version of Sun and Moon. I look forward to the next game on the Switch!

For me, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the best Pokemon main series games of all time. If Gamefreak doesnt include all Pokemon in a pair of games from Sword and Shield onwards, the Pokemon USUM will forever be the best Pokemon games in my heart.

i personally adored these games as well, in fact they're probably my second favorite pokemon games, period. Although i do agree with the notion that they got a lil lazy with this game, i don't think it was as bad as people make it out to be. In fact, i'd rather play the entirety of the 3DS pokemon games (except X/Y) than play any current gen pokemon game, and that's why i decided to start using my 3DS again.

My team throughout the game:
Rowlet --> Dartrix --> Decidueye
Zorua --> Zoroark
Buneary --> Lopunny
Rockruff --> Lycanroc (Dusk Forme)
Noibat --> Noivern
Inkay --> Malamar
After catching Solgaleo and Necrozma, however, I fused them together and swapped out Lopunny.
After the Elite 4, I swapped Noivern for Blacephalon.
So now my current team in Ultra Sun is:
Decidueye
Zoroark
Dusk Lycanroc
Malamar
Dusk Mane Necrozma
Blacephalon
I don't want to say we wasted our money on the first S/M but that's definitely how it feels

MLL2002 having played through SM 5 times, I’ve been able to notice every single little difference in USUM, and it actually made my experience playing the game even more enjoyable

cookinsdabest ey, I'll just use poke bank to transfer my main team from normal sun, and send them to ultra sun. That way I can get to the good stuff quicker, but don't forget to enjoy the experience

I don’t understand Ultra Moon. Lunala can take away the midday’s light making it feel like night. So WHY TF is Necrozma going against someone else that STEALS LIGHT?
