native puerto rican here. wish we could vote but the republican controlled senate would never allow that from democratic puerto rico. its bizarre to me that the united states is jsut allowed to own us without giving us a voice. trump did the bare minimum for us during hurricane maria and the grand majority of my fellow puertoricans hate him.

I'm currently living in Puerto Rico, and as bad as Maria was talking from personal experience, I hope the migration to Florida turns the state blue in the elections and that boricuas living over there keep in mind how grossly incompetent Trump was pertaining to the aftermath of the hurricane.
If you love socialism, there's a large island really near by which is a utopia, free healthcare and school for everyone. Instead of infesting Florida, perhaps you could consider relocating there?

The president called the response to Hurricane María an “unsung success”. Now tell me, is losing more than 3,000 lives an unsung success? Is implying that this natural disaster wasn’t a real catastrophe an unsung success. Was “the federal staff arriving thirty times slower than in Florida” an unsung sucess? I can guarantee you, as a puerto rican, that the US response to hurricane María was not a success. It was mediocre at best, we could’ve avoided a lot of deaths, had the response been swifter. I’m grateful that I was one of the lucky ones that didn’t lose my roof, and that power returned in 2 months, but I do not owe this gratefulness to your president.
In the end, as some of you may know, puerto ricans on the island can’t vote for the president, but those in the mainland can, so I encourage you to vote, whether you vote red or blue, but make your vote count, and do it with those which you love the most in mind.

@Scott Covert yes, our government took the supplies we had and stashed them away, left to rot and perish, but the governor which you’re talking about resigned from his position last year. Our government isn’t helping either, and that’s why people in Puerto Rico want to get rid of the bipartidism on the island, unlike most of the americans on the mainland, which still adhere the practice of fanatism, whether it’s party or candidate.

I lived in Puerto Rico for work for a year and a half and there is high voter turn out because of the politcal patronage. The poltics of giving local government jobs to supporters and their family... All the territories are like that... "Vote for me i'll hire your kid for dog catcher."
The artist lawyer said it all; republicans think they aren't going to be voting for them & democrats don't put enough effort; (unless they choose their party affiliation). Independent voter's are like the Puerto Ricans back in heir home island. In a three party elections they vote for candidates of all parties; in local municipal and or general elections. Forming a balance ballot based on service rather than straight ballot party affiliation as actions speak lauder than words.
