The cat that forever has my heart was my 10 old Amie I adopted from my job at vet. Her owner was going to put her to sleep because she was moving to California and couldn’t have her. She was my husband and I first baby right after we married. She was perfect angel. Sadly I lost her 2 years later to diabetics. My heart , I can’t take it. I loved having a senior cat but when I lost her tore me to peices. Now the little kitten we rescued right before she died is 14yrs old :) he loved her too because he was only a month old and saw her as momma

I had to go out of town 2 hours away for a medical appointment. I have 3 cats and I scooped all 4 litter boxes, cleaned and filled their water fountain and gave enough food to last until my return. I left the TV and lights on. I left at noon and planned on being back before 8pm but my SUV broke down at the doctors office. I didn't make it back until late the next night. My cats have never been left alone that long and I saw scared cats when I opened the door. It took a while but eventually they forgave me. The were so hungry not having any food all day and I felt so bad but so relieved to be home with them.

Don’t declaw! I So agree with this. I had my 2 cats declawed almost 50 years ago, and I’ve regretted ever since I found out what it actually is doing. Makes me mad that my BIL, who is a VET and his wife said “It will be the best thing for them.” After finding out what it actually involved, I made up my mind to NEVER, ever do that to a cat again. If they scratch the furniture, I don’t care. My kitties are more important than my furniture.

      @vickieclark5931 11 місяців тому +18

Yeah, I think most people don't realize how bad declawing is. I used to not realize it either. People think that all it is is just taking the claws out, which is only half of it. It literally turns them into amputees. Those cats are usually much more aggressive cause their #1 source of security has been taken from them. Not to mention, if they ever get out of the house, they are screwed. Not only can they not run as fast, but they also cannot fight for their lives or get away by climbing a tree. They are sitting ducks to any predator cause the cats can't protect themselves with no claws. But don't be too hard on yourself. As I said, most people in the past did not know how bad it was to declaw a cat. And if you did that 50 years ago, people definitely did not have the information that they have nowadays about doing that. We live and we learn.

It’s so nice to see things like this. I wish everyone had the empathy to understand. Too many people care about the inanimate things that don’t matter. I don’t know why I even look at the replies, I know there are going to be some terrible people who lie to everyone and themselves saying their cats are fine. As if just because they’re alive means they did nothing wrong. It’s disgusting, and I truly hope it becomes fully illegal everywhere. It’s so pathetic how concerned people are with how some furniture looks.

I think that is something most of us are guilty of and don't even know it. Or play loud noises without thinking about how she feels about it. A little tip to make vacuuming less stressful:
Communicate to your cat(s) that you're going to vacuum before starting.
Make sure they see you walk to where the vacuum is kept (maybe even touch it) and tell them to go hide or just "vacuum" until they understand.
AND MAKE SURE they're hidden before turning it on! Then of course let them know when you're done :) I usually go to my cats hiding spot and tell her its safe to come out

Love how you understand that all the kitties really need is to be treated with respect and consideration. Just talk to them and explain what is happening. Makes a huge difference. They are full beings in their own right and way smarter than most give them credit for.
My cat totally speaks human. All she wants is to get to sit on my lap while I work on my computer each day. Loving on her gets us both through the day by filling it with affection and cuddles. What a blessing.
She is an excellent mouser and delivers “gifts” to my door on a regular basis. Especially after a really cuddly day, I am likely to receive a “thank you mouse”. 😂

TLDW: Don't push your cat away when they seek attention.
Avoid constantly rejecting your cat's presence.
Don't leave your cat alone for extended periods.
Avoid teasing your cat by pulling its tail, scaring it, or blowing in its face.
Pay attention to signs of pain or discomfort and take appropriate action.
Be mindful of your cat's fear of loud noises and create a calm environment.
Avoid shouting at your cat as it terrifies them.
Punishing your cat doesn't teach them a lesson and can make them afraid of you.
Allow your cat to socialize at its own pace and respect its need for space.
Include wet food in your cat's diet to prevent urinary and kidney problems.
Create a quiet environment during mealtime to reduce stress.
Serve fresh food instead of leaving out old, stale food.
Keep a clean environment, including food bowls and litter boxes, to avoid stress.
Avoid using harsh cleaning products that could be toxic to your cat.
Provide opportunities for your cat to engage its instincts and prevent boredom.
Never declaw your cat as it causes pain, mobility issues, and emotional stress.

Basically being a slave to your cat. That's not actually the right way to train your cat, because cats like all other creatures, submit to dominance. You should rather watch cats interact with each other, and especially how the mother cat deals with her kittens.
Feed them, pet them but don't be a slave to them. The cat owner actually has to mimic the role of the dominant mother cat.

And they were neglected and abused, then lived in the shelter for some time. It took me a long time to get them to trust me and feel comfortable in their new home. They are finally settling in but they still get scared easily, one of them is scared of EVERYTHING bless his heart. The other tries to act tough and gets aggressive when he's scared. I WANT TO love on them more, I want them to love me and want my affection and attention more. But they've never had affection or attention so they just don't want it most the time. They don't make biscuits, ever. They have got where they will let me pet them SOME, and they do purr now. So I'm getting there..... I haven't had them long but I already love these two boys so so much! We’ve had cats throughout our 50-year marriage but we never had any of them declawed. Then we adopted 2 beautiful cats that had already been declawed. My sweet cat, Molly Mittens, died at 12 years of age of cancer before the declawing became and issue. Teddy lived to be 16 before he died of old age. By that time, we could clearly see the serious effects of declawing a cat.
You see, declawing actually removes the end of the cat’s toes. In early years, the missing ends of their toes can cause balance problems. When they’re old, they develop serious arthritis in the feet that have been declawed. Teddy’s last year of life, he could barely walk because of the missing ends of his toes and the arthritis that resulted. His front legs didn’t work properly anymore and his feet, instead of pointing straight ahead, just kind of flopped around.
If you don’t want your furniture clawed, don’t adopt a cat unless you’re willing to adjust your home-and your attitude-to the needs of the cat. They need to claw things to maintain their claws properly. In the wild, they claw trees. And they sometimes claw things when they’re bored. Either don’t take that cute kitty home with you or commit to claw proofing your house. If you’re not sure how to do that, ask a vet or look for information online. Jackson Galaxy has a UA-cam series of really good information about cats.
BUT PLEASE DON’T TAKE THAT KITTY HOME PLANNING TO DECLAW IT!!! IT’S INHUMANE!!!!

When you introduce your kitten or cat to a scratching post. I recommend you try following: Take their front legs, slowly and gently bring their paws to the post. Then gently perform the scratching rountine with their paws. Depending on the characteristics and intelligence of the cat is how long it will take your cat to realize this is where they scratch. You can try using catnip, or reward them with treats when they use the scratching post. Do verbally say to your cat good boy or girl when they use the scratching post, plus give them some pets.

My mother's wife had 7 cats that she had declawed because of the old "we didn't want them scratching the furniture". She had them before my mom met her or she would have gotten the tongue lashing of a lifetime from me, she knew I despised the practice after I found out she had them declawed. She has always been a bit of a bully and you can't talk to her about anything that she doesn't agree with so it was a moot point to even bring it up. The cats always got tons of attention from me. They have all passed on now and they have moved onto poodles.
Declawing should be outlawed outright if cats normal behavior bothers you...DON'T get a cat, plain and simple.

I adopted my cat at 6 months old. She was declawed by the previous owners. She's 21 years old now and very healthy. She beat me up two flights of stairs in the house everytime. She has no mobility issues. She is an indoor cat and whenever she goes outside, I am with her. Personally, I wouldn't have declawed her. I have never had a cat declawed in all my years of owning cats.
I always feel judged about her being declawed whenever I take her into vet offices and it isn't fair because I was not the one that had her declawed.
I would ask that folks check their judgements of others because you never know the full story of someone else's life. Learn to lead with compassion first and not judgement because there is no perfect person or situation. 🙏🏾😊💙

Talking about declaw. My cat of 14 years suffered with chronic muscle spasms, chewing and licking at the back and spine, alite hump back , bowing front legs , shaking and licking paws during winter months, take many breaks with heat pad during playing, bulging disk , degenation of the disk, and then this lead to pinch nerves in the neck caused spinal seizures. No medicine helped her.
No vet wanted to x ray her back. One tried put her on aspirin . Aspirin is toxic to cats. F vet wanted me to buy the aspirin. I am glad of Google search, or I would have poison my cat!
Cat was declawed and abused by her owner before we took her.
One holistic nerve medicine helped for for few years until I had put her to sleep , because of the seizures.
Everyone had anything to do with her suffering is going to feel her pain and her humans pain when they pass. Every vet, her old master, and a other people whom refused to see declawing as an evil act.
Please, learn about Declawing, before you get it done. Don't do it all . Just don't!
Dog fighters would use hatchet and cut off cats toes , before giving to the dogs for chew toy. Vets in 1952 , seen it as a money deal.
When good people put their heads in the sand , evil flourish.

Cats are the best animals to have as pets. They love without condition. Cats get VERY attached to their human and from my own experience having been in the hospital for 7 months I can attest to the fact that they DO miss us. My Cat Otis (Male Orange Tabby) was so depressed that he barely ever ate when I was gone and it took him 3 months to start warming up to my wife. According to my wife, she put one of my shirts that had not been washed into his bed area and she said after about a week of me being gone that he cuddled with that shirt every day until I came home 7 months later.

I used to have 2 cats when I was a kid, but learning about the do-nots, it makes sense why my cat didn't trust me as much as my parents and although I thought I was doing what was right for it I now realize that I was sending the wrong messages (like disturbing them when eating or shouting, squirting with water if they did something like scratching something they shouldn't). Always emphasize the evils of declawing. I knew a couple of people (note the past tense) who did this horrible thing, because they were worried about their ugly, tacky, tasteless furniture! One can only wonder, why the hell did they have a cat? I don’t mind admitting: I privately wished they had lost the first joint of each finger. That would have been painful physically; emotionally, too, since they spent lots of money on manicures!

He didn’t know any better and one cat passed, and we got another one, and it was done again. Not out of malice, the cats NEVER went out the door.
When I moved out & had cats declawed I had no idea how terrible it was for them. I truly didn’t understand, and wished the vet may have mentioned different things to buy things like a toy or cat tree that would allow the cat to scratch without being destructive. Now that I know better, I can’t believe how no one ever talked with me or my vet of what it did. I wish he had, I thought I loved my cats so very much(they are my babies), god I wish I would have known. It will never be done again. Most people that I know were more of dog owners then cats.
The guilt I feel with the thought that I did that really makes me so sad to this day.
Please whatever you do, don’t get your cats DECLAWED. I adore my fur babies, and it never will be done again. I feel ashamed that I didn’t know, but also again wished my vet would have made it more of a big deal to me & explain how much harm it brought to my little guys.
Kind of hard to share this, I feel ashamed that I ever did it in the first place. But I can promise it will NEVER be done again. Thanks for reading if you did. I hope what I said will somehow make 1 cat owner not declaw their cat, I really didn’t know or was ever told. I love them so very much. TC all🥹

    8. While true, for my cat, he used to have wet food but he as he grew older he would lick only the broth and walk away. After a week of trying again, he would scrape the floor and just walk off so I gave him so dry cat food that was recommended by his vet and so far he hasn't had any issues plus he drinks plenty of water with his food. Plus when he used to eat wet food, the situation in his litter box used to be very messy to deal with unlike currently with his diet of dry food he loves.

I love 💕 my cat so much. I've had him since he was a teeny baby, and he's 12 years old now. He greets me every day when I get home from work, follows me all around the house, lays on the floor on his back with his belly up- he is without a doubt the BEST cat in the world! I just love him so much! He is my baby. He's not a cuddler, and never sits on my lap, but if I'm at my desk, he comes and lays down right in front of me, and we cuddle like that. I give him scratches and rubs, and hugs and kisses- sometimes for an hour or two. I sleepwalk, and no word of a lie- if he sees me, and he can reach me, he will wake me up with his paw by tapping me. That is just the SWEETEST thing ever! ☺️I honestly care about cats more than I care about humans, not counting my own family, of course, but I don't get emotional over people being abused or homeless, but I can't bare to see or hear about cats being abused or unwanted because it upsets me so much. I also don't let my cat even THINK about going outside. He is strictly an indoor kitty. Cats are AMAZING! They are the BEST! 🥰😻t

Two owner of two cats here. Cat #2 will only eat dry food, no matter what. If is notified a lacking trying. She sniffs the wet food offered but then immediately goes for the dry food. No matter the brand or variety of wet food.
Cat #1 will only ever eat wet food unless really hungry, and even then no more than a few bites. Followed by some very loud and harsh criticism directed at the person responsible for the selection of food on offer.
Cat #1 is now 15 years old. Her teeth are fine. Cat #2 is now 4-ish years old and not the sharpest tool in the shed. She drinks enough water. And the dry food is the „urinary“ variety, as recommended by the vet. And yes, a vet was consulted about the eating habits.

So, I think there are cats that welcome food and shelter, but have little or no need for human company.

I am so glad that the diet is also mentioned. People on various forums get furious with me when I tell them that giving your cat only dry food is like giving your human child only hamburgers and chips to eat. They are also unable to digest carbohydrates in large quantities and the pancreas is almost worn out in the process. And it is a very painful condition. Now we only give dry food in connection with play, our Molly lives on meat and wet food. We had her severely abused as a 6-year-old and she was horribly overweight. But after we switched to wet food, she lost weight without us having to fight.

On drinking enough water: I found out that cats by nature avoid drinking water at the same place where the food is (it has to do with the instincts to go find water separately after “the hunt”). So I tried putting the bowl of water in a discrete convenient place, but around 8-10ft (3 metres) away from her food. IT WORKED MIRACLES! She now drinks each time she enters the room and often goes to drink some right after she ate. I just cannot recommend this simple hack enough. Of course, maybe it’s just my cat’s preference, but still suggest trying this out 🙂
