The world needs more Shaun Boyd jokes and puns!
Haha, I am trying to keep them coming!
Two true stories:
1.) When you said let’s see what’s behind this mystery shop door I honestly said out loud “I hope it’s a room filled with people being trained like in a James Bond movie”, then the exact clip I was thinking of polled up. One of my favorite things about your format is you’ll make an obscure reference, then a pause while I get to try to place it, then the satisfaction of seeing if I got it. This is pleasing to me.
2.) The way Jonathan Katz-Moses responds to the funnel is how I shall henceforth and forevermore enter rooms.
/rant
Haha, glad other people appreciate the obscurity!
Congrats on the move! Can't wait to see the whole operation up and running, and hopefully make a trip down from NorCal to see it all in person.
'If I'm not here in 30 seconds, just wait longer' . That was funny!
Wishing you great success Shaun. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Really appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Congratulations! Have a good time in your new shop!
Really good space for working, and it have many opportunities to organise.
Thank you! I am excited to start making new things in the new space!
Yeah for Greg Space. Looks great. I would recommend a partition wall. Hang tablesaw jigs one side. Other side is Greg space and room for his friends, Dedicated dust collection.
Who knows what Greg would get up to if he was left alone in another room! Though, that could be pretty nice...maybe a long term plan.
@@shaunboydmadethis doesn't have to be a full wall. Centered on table saw and about as wide, open on both ends.
Congratulations on the new shop. Look forward to the new videos.
Thank you!
Congratulations on the new inspiring and spacious shop and the good neighborhood in addition! Keep making!
Really appreciate it! It is going to be a good spot!
All the best in the new shop.
Thank you!
Love your sense of humour! That's a wicked looking shop. Looking forward to seeing Greg's new home.
Thanks Matthew! I think Greg will be much happier!
Congrats on the new space Shaun! Stoked to see the shop evolve! Have fun in Atlanta!
Thank you! I'm excited to keep dialing it in.
All the best in new shop
Thank you, Mark!
Good luck for the new Adventure 💪🤙 awesome as always!
Thank you, really appreciate it!
Congrats Shaun. All the best with the new space. If that is the permanent home for your table saw you might consider burying the dust line. You might consider hanging a rack or two from the ceiling
Thanks, Peter! Yeah, that hose is definitely on the to-do list. How quickly that happens, I have no idea!
Congrat's on the new shop!
Thank you! It has been great so far.
Great concept
Congratulations Shaun.
Really appreciate it! Thanks!
Sound the funnel? Love it!! Great new space Shaun, can't wait to see what else you do to make it more like home. Congrats.
Thanks Scott! The funnel works like a charm!
Very spacious Shaun 👌👌love it !! Looking forward to seeing you and johnathn teaching us something new . Thanks guys 😊

That looks like a great space to set up shop. Enjoy.
Thank you! I’m loving it so far!
Congrats Shaun. Looks so much bigger than the old space. Great things to come.
Thank you! Definitely feels huge compared to the old spot.
Dude congrats! Can't wait to see future projects!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to getting back to work!
Congratulations. Nice progress.
Thank you!

Really appreciate it! Looking forward to this weekend!
I love your shop Shaun!
Thank you Jolien! I am loving it so far, too!
Congrats on the new shop! Looks a lot. Bigger than the other one. Vertical is the way I'm going with my lumber also was amazed how much space i saved
Thanks, man! Yeah, I never liked the horizontal storage I had before, so I am looking forward to trying it a new way.
Congratulations on your new space. I like your videos because they're so funnelly made.
Really appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Omg ... love to watch people with passion like you...
Really appreciate that! Thank you!
Yeah baby! Congrats on the move. I was just about to question the absence of the Irish flag but she’s up ! Love the entrance of Jonathan. T shirts arrived in Canada by the way. Cheers buddy. Thanks for the advice on the fit. You’re right they both fit slightly different but awesome quality.
Awesome! Glad they made it to you safely! Really appreciate the support and well wishes!
congrats on your evolution man!!! so awesome and inspiring for someone who is just starting. keep it up man!
Really appreciate it! One step at a time.
Haha glad to see the shells made the move nice and safe and have a place on the tool wall. Digging the set up the work flow will be so nice! That’s my current situation lack of ease of work flow. Have fun at workbench man!
Thanks, man! Yeah, I am constantly trying to streamline workflow, it is definitely key to being productive.
Bud!!! So glad for you and new shop. Can't wait to see want fantastic creations come out of that place!!! Your videos mellow me out so much, and being that I'm from one of the highest stressed parts of US, it's great to have an avenue to unwind!!! Wishing you all the best, Dirty Jersey out!!! Oh, P.S., editing was off the hook!!!
Thanks man! I really dig when people say my videos are relaxing to watch. That is exactly the vibe that I try to get across. Thanks for watching, man!
Good Luck to both of you and I'm a new subber and been long timer for John !!!!! Great space !!!!!!!!
Right on, thanks for the support! We are enjoying the new spaces so far!
You and Jonathan are heroes. Nice work!

Really appreciate it! Thank you!
Dude, you and chris are dope. Learn so much from your content. 💪🏾
Great new space. Nice to be near other creative people.
Definitely, it has already been a great experience so far! Thanks!
Congrats on the new shop. Looking forward to some awesome content coming from there. Stunning idea guys. Just wish I stayed in the States
Thank you! We are looking forward to all the potential opportunities from being in the new place!
Thanks for the video. I specifically love taking a look into people's shops that are set up for profit, like my own. Good luck with the business.
Really appreciate it! Running a profitable woodworking business isn't easy, but I certainly enjoy trying!
@@shaunboydmadethis same here lol. When its not workin, its as fun as a painful grind can be to get it profitable, and when it's profitable it feels amazing to do what you love for cash. Theres nothing in the world i would rather do for a job.
As soon as you opened that final door, I knew you were going to insert that clip from Wayne's World! Great shop, Shaun, looking forward to seeing more videos, also very glad to see the Union Jack is the biggest of all of your flags ;-)
Haha, that has always been one of my favorite parts from that movie. Thanks Dan!
Sucess in this new part of your life Shaun boi :) new wonderful builds were sighted on the horizon.
Really appreciate it! I'm excited to get back to making stuff. Thanks for watching!
GREAT VIDEO SHOP LOOKING GOOD
Shop improvement videos are my favourite kind of vids :) The collab looks interesting too!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
Nice shop! :-)
for ideas: Frank Howarth has a pretty good vertical storage for his wood, and Bob from I like to make stuff made a fairly practical rolling storage cart.
Nice! Thanks for the recommendations. Frank's shop is the dream!
Nice space Shaun!!!
Thank you!
Congratulations on the new space! By far my favorite thing you have done with the place would have to be the clamp rack.
I liked seeing your jigs hanging on the wall in your old shop. You have crazy ceiling height so maybe you can use that to your advantage for lumber storage instead of giving up floor space. It probably wouldn’t be a terrible thing to keep the open space to make room for bigger projects (tables). Love the tool wall. And the funnel call! Wish I was in the ATL!
Yeah, the open space is definitely nice. I am going to live with it for a bit and see what I want to do after that. Thanks for watching!
Shaun, I am glad that you have way big work space than previous one. However, hope your business is going well and making more awesome videos to share with us. Great job!!!
Thank you! It is very nice to have more space!
Whooa congrats...✨✨✨
Thank you!
Congratulations! cool workshop !!! Now the cleaning will take more time)))) Successful projects!
Haha yes, that is the downside to more space! Thanks for watching!
Поздравляю с новой мастерской! RUS
Спасибо!
I’m glad the Pooka beads have a place on honor on your pegboards
Haha, they deserve a special spot.
dear Mr Boyd, hi Shaun, as a European woodworker, I can only highly recommend to use a European style slider-equipped table saw rather than the US ones. I agree it has quite a footprint, but this cannot be an issue in such a spacious workshop. It is an investment but worth every dollar. And these machines also come in 5 fold combination machines: panel saw/ jointer thicknesser/ spindle moulder (some models also accept router bits) and optionally a horizontal morticer. BTW love your videos and more importantly love what you're making.
Yes, I would love to get a sliding table saw! Especially now with more room. Unfortunately it just isn't in the budget, but maybe someday! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching, Bart!
Nice one Mr Boyd well deserved. X
Thank you!
That looks like a great start Shaun. I look forward to seeing what you have in store in the future. Like how your name is spelled, my dad spells his name the same way.
Really appreciate it, thank you! "Shaun"s are a rare breed.
I like your new shop
Thank you!
Shaun, love the shop - it must feel great to have all that space.
Since you asked for suggestions, I'll offer what little I have:
1. The idea to have all tools on one side is phenomenal - I try to work this way, too and it makes life simpler. But, that dust hose on the floor would drive me nuts. Would it be worth running one line overhead and dropping it down on the other side of the saw? No trip hazard, same great suction.
2. Before filling all the empty space, live with it for a while. After making a really large project a while back, I lived in my (much smaller than your) space for a while and it gave me time to think things through more systematically about what works best where and what do I really need? Plus, open space can't be overrated if you're working on large projects. (Which I know you don't do a lot of.)
3. Even if you were a crappy woodworker, I would still watch you because your dry humor is freakin' hi-larious! But you're a great woodworker, so it makes your videos even more compelling.
Dan totally nailed it! Thanks Dan - spot on :)
Thanks Dan! Yeah, the hose across the floor definitely isn't ideal, but it might be one of those things that doesn't get immediate attention, we will see how badly it annoys me. And yes, I agree about living with the open space for awhile, because right now I am loving it!
Great shop! I would just add, since you’ve asked for suggestions. The dust collector hose on the ground, I would run overhead!
Just wanted you to know I watched this video again just for the part where you call Jonathan over. Makes me laugh every time I think of it.
@@danmcdan8278 Haha! We had fun shooting that bit. Glad it gives you a good laugh!
G’day mate, you have a nice channel & you’re a gentleman because you reply to all comments, this workshop is a fitting space for a quality maker 🍻👍👍👍
The comments are one of my favorite parts! I am loving my new shop so far. Thanks for watching!
The funnel call was a nice touch, but the Crocodile Dundee thing from the Outback would have been clutch, too.
Love the new space!
Haha, maybe I will add it to the list of Jonathan calls. Thanks, man!
Nice space dude!
Thank you! I’m loving it so far!
I vote for vertical limber storage if you have the ceiling height, which you do. As soon as you get two layers of material with horizontal storage its a pain to get something on the bottom of the stack and usually everything falls off but the piece your trying to get. Congrats on the new spot!
Yep, exactly why I want to try vertical. Seems so much easier! Thanks for watching!
Cool News! congrats on the new shop!, Since you're near Jonathan's shop which is in Goleta I believe you should try El Sitio over on Fairview for good mexican and of course the original Habit for burgers!
Haha, that is funny because I had both an El Sitio and Habit even closer to me at my Buellton shop. But it is nice to still have those choices at the new spot, too!
Stoked to see the new shop, it’s looking great. My two cents on the second table is to keep it fairly small. Maybe just big enough to give Greg the room he needs. That lets you keep a chunk of your open space available, and let’s you reach across your whole table while you’re working there. If it’s the same height as your table saw it could be used as infeed support if the need arises. I’m not a big fan of mobile bases, but it could be a good option here. If you need more space or if Greg needs some alone time you could push the table into the corner with the odd locked door.
I agree, I definitely don’t want it to take up too much space. I am loving the openness so far, so we will see what I decide. Thanks for the input!
You got me in trouble while at the library with this video. The necklace and clamp rack caused me to forget about my surroundings while laughing. So rad to see your growth!
I don't know how often you run your X-carve but when I had mine running all the time while working on other things the noise would kill me. I built an enclosure and also made a sound dampening enclosure for my shop vac that was acting as my dust collector for it. You can set it up to turn on with the machine which is a nice feature. Depending on if you're like me or not I tend to overdo everything so projects like that turn into larger undertakings than they otherwise should but might be beneficial.
I'm a minimalist, I like to have a solid assembly table and whatever surfaces are needed for functionality with my tools. Otherwise, I enjoy open spaces and don't like tons of furniture or other things like that around. I try to have everything in my shop be multi-use and eliminate as many extraneous objects as possible.
You have a tremendous space and I'm so jealous of your overhead door!
Couldn't be happier for you, Shaun! Love the humble attitude and furniture you produce, cheers.
Haha, sorry for busting you up in the library! I am similar and definitely don't want to clutter up the space with unnecessary furniture. I am going to live with it for a bit, and see what I think is needed. Thanks for the suggestions and for watching!
Wow, nice work. FAST. I'm about 8 years into setting up my shop. I'm about 50% there, hehe. Hard to tell but at 20 feet wide it seems like it would make sense to have that second assembly table on its own and have the CNC on the wall, maybe around where your red toolbox is, toolbox could even be underneath it. I can just see it being beneficial to not have to compromise the ability to get at the table from all sides.
Yeah, I am definitely going to have to ponder it for a while. I am thinking a new table with the CNC underneath, similar to what I have, just with a much better system to set up, and use the CNC machine.
Aswum would love to have that space. You have nice high ceilings you could build a row of shelving with 1 of those library ladder on wheels that run a track for you know stuff you like to have on hand but don't use all the time finishes, off cuts wives and wot not. Great channel 👍
Oh nice, that would be cool! Thanks for the suggestion!
Yay for Greg!
Haha, he is a good dude.
Qué bonito!
it's amazing how you can create such beautiful furniture with relatively small machine. the only big machine I see is the Sawstop, the other are normal size. great!!
Thank you! Yeah, I am a big fan of working with what you have and doing your best to not let tools limit what you can do. Though, having the big tools is always nice!
Whatever you add to that big space put it in wheels so you can get it out if the way! I can see that space being really useful 😁
Yeah, good idea. I love the open space for sure!
Keep the space. adjustable hieght scissor leg movable bench/trolly very handy. 👍
Yeah, I am loving the open space. Good idea for the adjustable height/movable bench!
Only suggestion I have is store your wood closer to your saw/assembly table. That's where the process begins and would make the work flow more linear. Place your planer next to the jointer.
Yeah, I did think about that. Not sure if I can get it any closer without rearranging other things, but definitely something to keep in mind! Thanks!
Sweet shop bud
Thank you!
looking good
Thank you!
Wish i could have gone but boy its so expensive from here in SA brother. Maybe in the near future. Great shop and good ideas im working from a single car garage. Enjoying all of you and your work. Keep it up bro.
Really appreciate it! Even a single car garage is a great shop space!
Nice space with so much potential, Shaun~! This is my first visit to your page, so I'm now subscribed and will be keeping tabs on it. I'm trying to develop/improve a plan for the use of my space (30'x40'), so I'm always looking for good ideas & inspiration. BTW, love the Maker Call Funnel~! :-D I'd adopt the balance test, but my knees would definitely protest.
Really appreciate it, Andrew! Thanks for finding me. It is always fun to see how other people organize things!
Great new space! Happy for you, Shaun! Also, I'm nearly out of breath blowing into this damn funnel and yet Jonathon is nowhere to be found...
Haha, he will show up eventually! Thanks, man!
I like your tool wall...
Thank you!
Good luck
Thank you!
Love new space! I'm sad that we never got to see the loft of the old shop, thankfully there's a mysterious door in new space to fill that void.
Haha, the door is the new loft. Thanks for watching!
sweet baby Jesus...this is paradise!!! best of luck to all of your future endeavors.
It does feel a little luxurious! I'm hoping I can put it to good use! Thanks!
I know this is an old video but I love the shop. Great content you and Chris are producing and keep up the great projects.
Really appreciate it, Brian! Thanks for following along.
@@shaunboydmadethis really looking forward to making the projects both of you do. I'm just starting out with the hobby and I already want to eventually make this my future career. Cooking for a living is great and all but I really enjoy making large pieces of wood smaller. Keep up with the great content and I can't wait for the next one.
hahahha...priceless intro...congrats on d new shop...
Haha, can't beat a Nic Cage movie! Thank you!
With your Timber you should make a timber rack to hold it all while being mobile with casters
Nice, that is a good idea! Being mobile is always a plus.
Congrats on the new shop!! Proper Flip table for x-carve? aka personal rollercoaster for greg
Haha, Greg would probably like that. Definitely a good idea, thanks man!
I like to build kayaks and the shop I work in is 20' X 24', so open space in the conditioned part of the shop, is at a premium. I'm also only 5'9" so a work table at 36" in height can sometimes be a bit high for me.
Don't know if it would be helpful, but my solution was to create 3 rolling storage units. (actually, with the exception of the chop saw station, everything is on wheels in the shop, now that I think about it ;-)
Two at 2'X6' and one at 2'X4'. All are 22 1/2" off the ground and I can arrange them in different configurations. (4'X8', 2'X12', etc.) The 6' ones live under the chop saw bench, down one wall of the shop, and are easy to wheel out into the open space, when required as a work table, with their contents still accessible.
The smaller one kind of floats around, in front of the roll up garage door, with the Rigid sander and the 12" thickness planer perched on top, until needed.
Now that I've typed all that, I really can't see how it might be of use other than once Greg gets a new home, you might consider having rollout storage units, where he lived, under your assembly table that could double as mobile work surfaces in the shop, but the hose from the TS would get in the way.
Oh well... Great to see the new shop mostly set up. Looking forward to seeing more projects. I'm especially interested in learning more about your design inspiration. I'm comfortable doing it with houses, but struggle to do it with furniture.
Cheers, Greg
Thanks Greg! Yeah, I think rolling carts of some sort would definitely make sense. I love having the open space right now, and that might allow me to have the best of both worlds. But that would definitely mean figuring out a better ducting system for the table saw. We will see! Always a work in progress.
As someone who works in a 10ft x 7ft shop, I can only turn green with envy ahahaha.
I know how you feel! This new place feels like the Taj Mahal compared to the garage I was in when I first started.
Mikhail Galatinov I’m no longer depressed about having an 11 x 17 shop space. I guess I need to empty it out and reorganize.
Great shop. Cool space and cool that you have an awesome neighbor. Love the idea you guys are working on. Where are you located?
Thank you! It has been great so far. We are located near Santa Barbara, CA.
You two make an excellent match.
That is good to hear. We certainly spend a lot of time together now.
Hi! I'm a mexican carpenter´s son, so i've just seen your job and its awesome. I love what u do i a wonder if you would ever give us a "Basics" video for tools and machines. Cool channel!
Thanks for watching, Ricardo! Yeah, that is a good idea for some videos, I will add it to the list!
Certainly makes for a much more defined work area. Looking good. I think I would have installed an overhead collection system for the table saw if it was possible to find a convenient drop point. And now you are in a commercial premises recommend some correct foot ware.Sneakers are for hobbiests and you are now elevated to industrial. You need safety shoes in your new professional working environment. Be safe.
Yeah, getting a better dust collection route to the table saw is on the list. And maybe I can talk to Vans and see if they can make a steel toe version for me.
Shaun! My shop is 24' x 40' with a 12' ceiling. You will love the size and hope you have allot of ceiling space as well. I have mine set up a little different - but everything is [rollable] - is that a word?
Yeah, rollable (I think it's a word) seems like a very good option. We will see how it goes for a bit. Thanks David!
I am curious if you have ever thought of the combination tools. Like the Hammer C3 31 or Minimax C 30G? What are your thoughts on them? The seem expensive but if you consider the number of tools they cover, it might save you money. I know people usually dont buy all there tools at once and buy them as their budget/needs allow. But especially for a small shop it seems like a huge space saver and you only have to run your dust collection to one machine.
I have definitely considered getting a newer combination machine. I think they are great, especially if space is limited. Might be something I consider in the future.
