What a beautifully wonderful gift to James Taylor from Swift. I'm not a huge Swift fan (just genre difference), but she really has always acknowledged her forebears with such reverence, and that's just wonderful.
They gave him a hell of an ovation and seemed to know his song well enough to sing it pretty clearly, so it seems to me that a lot more than only 6% of that audience knew who he was. I have to admit that this video really improved my prior opinion of Taylor Swift.
Wondering what's your problem with Taylor? She seems to me to be a beautiful, generous, humble, talented musician who's been attacked viciously for no apparent reason.
Natasha Kiehne That was not singing...HE was singing, she pretended to play guitar then did an out of tune vocal which was so lame she could have been sleeping. She should never put herself up to a incredibly famous and talented musician and singer, because the difference between their level of talent you could drive a truck through.
+Jeff Gordon she is actually playing the guitar not miming... haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate lol ;P also he obviously thought she was talented enough to grace her with the pleasure of his musical company.
He was plugging his new album. I never said she's not talented. On this particular performance she seemed lazy and was disappointed. I like her. I think she's a grat songwriter. She just has a weak voice that needs auto tune and 4 background singers to strengthen her voice. I don't hate her...I have her first two albums.
I've watched this over and over and I'm still awestruck over the overwhelming appreciation the audience evokes Just to see both James and Taylor's reaction when the song ends brings me to tears without fail.
Nice win-win for both artists. I am a JT fan since BEFORE Fire & Rain, so that makes me a genuine geezer, but I have also taken notice of Ms. Swift's considerable talents. Had no idea she was named for him, but it was really nice to see the mutual respect between them. And a good thing for her young fans to get some first-hand exposure to the singer-songwriter legend.
I have to say that Taylor has always shown appreciation and respect for the musicians and artists who came before her... and for that I respect her as an artist, whether or not I'm a fan of her music.
I sang this song as a lullabye to my son, as he cried through colic for 6 months, James Taylor was my friend during those long nights. That boy is 29 years old now. And James Taylor still rocks it. oh...it was a cassette tape. the wave of the future!
Fair dues to Taylor Swift. She took on the task of a different music from a different generation. I could see she really respected James Taylor. She is a confident, savy, and a good looking young woman.
James Taylor bowing in respect for Taylor Swift. What a gentle, humble man......got to love that. Wish we had more humbleness from all of us in this life............. We would be much better for it!
I realized that James Taylor can sing a song for every moment of my life so far. Blossom and You can Close Your Eyes my favorites from 50 years. Wow I am getting old 😂😂😂
I'm not really a Taylor Swift fan but it's nice to see that younger generations being introduced to James Taylor in this way. It might make even just one person seek his music out that never would've.
All you folks criticizing Taylor Swift are ig’nant’. This young lady has introduced JT to a whole new generation; there’s no way they would’ve heard his music without her cover.
trust me James Taylor , John does not need Taylor Swift's endorsement nor a guest appearance / exposure to establish his place in the industry nor the young generation.
Mathew Coffidis Parents with 'a shred of musical taste' are few on the ground these day. Even if there were plenty, kids like to hear songs from their own generation. Swift has introduced a whole bunch of kids to James Taylor that likely would never have heard, knowingly, his music. If the guy didn't feel that it was worth it, he wouldn't have shown up at this concert.
What a lovely blending of generations . . . I didn't know she was names for James! James was the older heart-throb of my generation . .. he is an American treasure!
I'm a musician, not nearly successful enough for something like that to happen, and I'm so old now that most of my idols are gone, but I can imagine, and I would be in heaven if someone like JT would honor me like that. I think of all those musicians who were my idols, and who had such a powerful influence on my own musical expression, and what it would be like. I had that same dream as a teenager. Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground. But I think having dreams come true is overrated. What's left to achieve? Now it becomes work because every future recording is expected to be as successful as the last one. To an average musician, a gold album would be a dream come true! But to a superstar, that's not good enough, and a lot of artists lose the joy, and they burn out. I may be a nobody musician with dreams that crashed and burned, but I can still get my joy from a good crowd at the local bar, and from the kids at the middle school where I teach music. TS is unique in her ability to produce such quality and massively popular music, and I think she feels the joy. That makes me smile too. I didn't make it, but someone else did!
Its true.....MSG is a magical place for music and sports.....add this performance to its historic legacy.....cant help but smile every time you watch this clip.....
Sweet baby James hasn't heard an applause like that in a few decades. Believe me though, he's heard them, every woman for a couple generations threw themselves at him. Us guys just wanted to have that iconic voice matched to his acoustical expertise.
A good friend just died from cancer, and I remembered that JT wrote this beautiful bittersweet song for a friend that died suddenly. And in it he is wounded and crying with regret...."I thought I'd see you one more time again. " And art heals, comforts, let's you cry, and helps you understand--one more time this song helped. And then I foolishly read the pigs' trough of comments below, so much of it crude, heartless, merciless, and soulless.... If you can, "when you don't have anything nice to say, say it nicely...or not at all". Don't remember the source.
43 years ago at the time of this comment, I bought my first Jame's Taylor album and played it all through my senior year of high school. I cried, danced, wrote poetry while I listened. I loved every second of this and her willingness to have him up there demonstrates nothing but class. Music is the best medicine and Taylor Swift clearly "gets it".
The pure joy of making music, by two great ones
People who may have or never would have seen James Taylor live. It’s so cool, the love. Carrying it forward.
James is my all time favorite love. I’ve seen him maybe 7 times. I adore Taylor also. I would be in heaven to see these 2 together! Whoever posted this…THANK YOU!
Taylor Swift sang this song beautifully. I cant look up to her more. That girl is an agel and the world is a better place because of her.
James taylor still killin it
STILL?!! He packs in 10,000 easy!!
I've seen him 17 in concert...most recently 4 years ago...18,000 seats filled! My ticket was $149!
What a beautifully wonderful gift to James Taylor from Swift. I'm not a huge Swift fan (just genre difference), but she really has always acknowledged her forebears with such reverence, and that's just wonderful.
What an amazing gift to Taylor Swift from J.T.
I would've DIED! The whole audience is singing with him. AWESOME!
Clearly parents raised the kids on James Taylor like my mom did!!!
They gave him a hell of an ovation and seemed to know his song well enough to sing it pretty clearly, so it seems to me that a lot more than only 6% of that audience knew who he was. I have to admit that this video really improved my prior opinion of Taylor Swift.
Same here.
Wondering what's your problem with Taylor? She seems to me to be a beautiful, generous, humble, talented musician who's been attacked viciously for no apparent reason.
@@teresabelardes7210 I’m still trying to sell my mother that Taylor Swift is a genius!!!
They may not have known his name, but they knew the song.
HIS SONG, SUNG BRILLIANTLY!@@karenwaddell9396
Sounds like the crowd knew exactly who James Taylor is. What mom and dad play at home as kids grow up makes a huge impact. 💖
it’s such a beautiful thing when people work together. Befor becoming a ‘solo’ legend James had the art of working with others ‘at hand. ‘
Just came upon this...better late than never. No, I'm not tearing up...this song was my childhood! Thanks!!! Two excellent singers!!!
3:05 Taylor realizing her dreams have just come true! Singing Fire & Rain with the man himself!
Natasha Kiehne That was not singing...HE was singing, she pretended to play guitar then did an out of tune vocal which was so lame she could have been sleeping. She should never put herself up to a incredibly famous and talented musician and singer, because the difference between their level of talent you could drive a truck through.
+Jeff Gordon why jeff? who cares..?!
I guess you and Natasha do.
What an incredible compliment to James Taylor to have yet another generation introduced to his music.. good job Taylor!!
James Taylor is a perfect musician. Thank you for your works.
Love jt when i worked as a teen at a girl scout camp my camp name was JT after James Taylor
To both of you, I’ve seen sunny days I thought would never end. A tribute to your name sake! Both of you are brilliant performers!
Thoroughly enjoyed that. James Taylor is matched by very few singer songwriters, and Swift sounded great. Powerful.
His talent is downright spooky!
I sang this song as a lullabye to my son, as he cried through colic for 6 months, James Taylor was my friend during those long nights.
That boy is 29 years old now. And James Taylor still rocks it.
oh...it was a cassette tape. the wave of the future!
I sang to my daughter who had colic as well ❤
She’s 13.
Are your kids contemplating suicide yet. How morbid a song about suicide OD death is how you put you kids to sleep.
Me, too. My son just turned 27.
That song, and Tapestry got me through nights with the Prince of Darkness.
I love James Taylor and this was truly beautiful. Taylor Swift you are awesome.
Fair dues to Taylor Swift. She took on the task of a different music from a different generation. I could see she really respected James Taylor. She is a confident, savy, and a good looking young woman.
James Taylor. My first concert back in 1977. Glad he’s still going.
James Taylor is timeless, Taylor Swift and JT together are WOW!
A very nice collaboration between generations and the audience loved it, as did I. We need more of this to bring us together.
Taylor Swift will always be my friend... Her music is cut from a different cloth and the covers she chooses are magical too...
Wish I could have this in person! James Taylor was a favorite from the beginning + Taylor Swift Great Combination!
Good for her! It's not every day a legend walks on your stage and plays for you!!!
James Taylor bowing in respect for Taylor Swift. What a gentle, humble man......got to love that. Wish we had more humbleness from all of us in this life............. We would be much better for it!
I’m old enough to have been a fan of James Taylor, and then Taylor Swift in her early years. This collaboration is absolutely something else.
I’m guessing the parents of the TS fans raised them on James as they should.
James Taylor sounds great and Taylor Swift, never heard her sing and I don't know her music but she sounds fantastic here.
You are a first class Human young lady !!! Look what You did for that man. And us........ thank You Taylor for being that kind of person!
My tears are streaming watching this. So very beautiful.
I'm not really a Taylor Swift fan, but what a really, REALLY cool moment in her life. They sounded great.
What a compliment to Swift. Taylor singing harmony on his own song. Not bad, she pretty much held her own.
This just made me cry tears of joy for both of them and for what they've both brought to life❤
@@JameTaylor-xl1yx love your musical craftiness😘
THIS WAS WONDERFUL. I am happy for them both.
Melts me that this young woman honors James & Carol such classic musicians. Thank you Taylor. ❤
Not true any parent with a shred of musical taste would show their kids James Taylor at a young age, my parents did.
joe johnston Couldn't have said it better myself!
Mathew Coffidis Parents with 'a shred of musical taste' are few on the ground these day.
Even if there were plenty, kids like to hear songs from their own generation. Swift has introduced a whole bunch of kids to James Taylor that likely would never have heard, knowingly, his music.
If the guy didn't feel that it was worth it, he wouldn't have shown up at this concert.
i heard Fire and Rain first from a Birdy cover... very embarassed
All the moms and girl dads in the audience are singing along. Good on Taylor for introducing this icon to a bunch of new generations of fans.
What a lovely blending of generations . . . I didn't know she was names for James! James was the older heart-throb of my generation . .. he is an American treasure!
You know you’ve made it when you not only get to perform with your idol, but you find out that he’s also a fan of you
I'm a musician, not nearly successful enough for something like that to happen, and I'm so old now that most of my idols are gone, but I can imagine, and I would be in heaven if someone like JT would honor me like that.
Why are you listening to a live taylor swift duet if you could go listen to just james taylor without any crowd noise?
Well said Sir. Good music and and real artists... that's all this is. We should enjoy and take it all in.
James Taylor iconic legend. Fan from Philippines.
I grew up listening to James Taylor, and now Taylor Swift is becoming a music legend like him.
This is really great with Taylor Swift and James Taylor. They sound FANTASTIC AND THIER VOICES. 😊😅😢🎉😂❤❤❤❤
Wow what a treat, the Incomparable James Taylor and Taylor Swift.. Great performance..
If she married him, she could be Taylor Taylor
43 years ago at the time of this comment, I bought my first Jame's Taylor album and played it all through my senior year of high school. I cried, danced, wrote poetry while I listened. I still have that exact same album. How amazing to see him with Taylor Swift for my first time, and now she is mega-famous around the world. Unbelievable.
Whoa, first time I head Taylor Swift live, great pipes
Such a great concert!! So many people love both of them and all their songs. It's so great to hear all the young people who are there to see Taylor's concert know James Taylor's song. And how cool that she's named after him!!
I'm thinking it was the parents who brought their kids there that knew the song...
