he's so wrong about UFC paying market value, the market standard is to pay 50% of total revenue to players. It's the case within a few percent for NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, etc. and even Bellator. All are over 44%. UFC is like 18-19%. It's absolutely abhorrent.
I just looked up the numbers again, they've actually gone way up for a lot of leagues. MLB is at 64%, NHL 69.8%, MLS 76%.

DC once said that a fighter shouldn’t think of himself as a failure no matter what level you made it to because most people wouldn’t even step in face to face with another person in a combat sport of any kind. He said you should be proud of yourself period for how ever long your run lasted and your accomplishments. Especially if it was what you loved to do. So I agree with your assessment of both sides. I think it is worth saying that there are millions of men in the US alone that train some kind of combat sport. A small percentage like to compete. Not for money, but just for the thrill of it. A fraction of those go pro, and a tiny fraction make it to the UFC. For everyone else, it is a hard road. Some guys just love to compete and they do it how and where they can.

At the end of the day the UFC and any other fighter league is all about the eyeballs and needle you move. If you can’t get people in the seats it doesn’t matter where you fight. The only good thing about the UFC is that the company has done well to become the more “mainstream” organization so casuals would always favor it over anything else.

I would argue that Joe’s message was related more to the fact that if you want to be “the best” outside of the UFC, you are wasting your time. Because everyone knows the best MMA fighters are not outside of the UFC. The UFC is the ultimate battlefield. Therefore, if you are not the best inside of the UFC…you are simply not the best PERIOD.
I can also see the other side too tho. If your main goal is anything other than becoming the best, (money, longevity, etc.) then sure you can fiddle around outside of the UFC and that’s totally fine. But you will never be known as the best to ever do it. It doesn’t work that way.

UFC fighters who are not ranked in the top 10 barely make enough money to even pay for their training camps. At least non-UFC fighters can get advertisers on their flag/trunks for fights to help cover the pay difference.
I agree top UFC guys should absolutely be UFC rather than anywhere else. But I’d rather be a top 3 guy at another promotion, than a UFC fighter fighting to crack the top 15. If you want to dream at being world champion, UFC is where it’s at, but if you know you’re not at that level that’s a different situation.

He's also a multimillionaire who hasn't struggled in decades, tell a poor and upcoming fighter that they're "wasting" their career. This is all they're good at and all they've wanted. That's like saying, you're wasting your musical career because you signed to a label that's not Universal.

Dricus (Studied econimics at uni, btw, 141 IQ) said it best in a Afrikaans interview a while back, look at the size of the UFC, it's not just the fighters, it's a massive organization and takes an army of skilled people to keep it well oiled and running, it's not just about fight purses, it costs a hell of a lot of money operationally.
That said, in my own opinion, Saudis tend to have "f*ck you" money, and if you want loyalty in life, get a dog because you're going to struggle to beat raw money over loyalty and exposure in careers as short and unpredictable as any pro fighters'.
Not everyone (likely most fighters) has the charisma or personal business initiative to capitalize on those eyeballs, valuable as they are. So don't assume every fighter is a 140 IQ titan of industry like Chael, some people want to farm as much capital as quickly as possible before dropping off as father time waits for nobody, or, God forbid, you encounter career destroying injury, this is a contact sport after all, it's all high risk.
With all of this bs said, you ain't sh*t if you haven't made it to the UFC and knock out guys like Strickland in 30 seconds for the belt LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

And if they want to make more money I like to think many of them understand that they need to have a bigger following to move up the card. I feel like that’s what a lot of them ultimately want, and I feel like that can only be achieved in the ufc or one championship. I also feel like it matters how well that fighter does and what kind of fighter they are. If you are exciting, then going to the UFC makes sense, but if you are what some might call a boring fighter, that know he never will be the best in the world, but you know you could maybe win a championship at a smaller promotion and dominate there and be their guy, is it better to be the big fish in a small pond or the small fish in a big pond. I feel like Michael Chandler was arguably the best at 155 at Bellator. I'd say he is maybe 6-8 in UFC. He puts on really fun fights. He is good enough that he could on a given night beat people above him, but he will never go on a run in UFC and will never become champ, but I'm sure he gets paid well because he brings eyeballs. I'm sure that brings positive attention and sponsors. Look at Ryan Bader. That guy would never have been heavyweight or light heavyweight champ in UFC. Ever. Not never. I think he made more as a double champ at Bellator than he would have been as a perennial contender and about number 5-10 in the UFC. Corey Anderson is a great fighter, but he had way more opportunity for a title and money at Bellator. Guys that can't talk trash or can't bring eyeballs. Then again, I used to like Bellator and liked watching you on it.

A fighter’s primary focus should be about money. You want to be in whichever organization yields the highest chance to achieve financial freedom. If the UFC can’t provide that for the fighter, then career waste would be with the UFC. The health risks are already severe enough. Medicine can’t yet reverse TBIs or repair an eye.
I fully acknowledge that this is case by case. So If you really think you are better than the entire UFC roster in your weight class, then go for the UFC. You’ll earn more as a Champion in UFC than if you were in Bellator.
