I have just discovered your channel, its absolutely fantastic! I like your method and above all how fussy you are when it comes to fabrication and preparation work. It's easy for people to criticise on how do do things, but take it from me, ignore them because chances are they have never picked up an angle grinder in their life! Carry on butty, your doing a great job! Leyton Thomas South Wales (You know the place - it AWAYS RAINS!) in the UK.
Great work on this video and showing us your experience. I agree with you on the POR15 that it's really good. I came across it about 4 years ago after using some rustoleum products that had failed. the POR15 has done incredibly well on underbody surfaces from rusting during the midwest winters (with salt), even on non-ideal prepped surfaces.
Hello, Kris. I investigated how to remove dents and there are electric machines called spotters and they are used to prevent it from disassembling and hitting the can from the inside. I saw they buy VEVOR pro spot brand a lot, the machine is white with manual controls, it may be an option for future jobs.
For the small dents, maybe try a shrinking disc, I have been using one for a few years now, works great on areas like the sliding door, stops the need to continual chasing your tail with hammer/dolly work and heat shrinking with a torch.
I ordered a shrinking disc yesterday! It’s supposed to get here by the weekend. Excited to try it out. I didn’t even know what a shrinking disc was before I got into this mess lol
Tip for the wire wheel, if it has a side with two flats on it that is kinda impossible to reach with tools to remove it after you use it if you turn it to the inside, just turn around the wheel and let the flats be on the outside so you can use a tool while removing the wire wheel =) atleast thats how i do it as they usaly stick kinda hard so you need thick gloves or a tool to get it off the machine =)
Also when turning on the torch, turn on the gas and light it, lean it against a surface like 30 or 45 degrees, then turn on the oxygen .. will prevent the oxygen from blowing out the flame when its turned on =)
I am not convinced that your hammer and dolly work was the entire reason you had oil canning going on. The damage itself may have stretched the metal, that is unless you were constantly hammering dolly on. Nonetheless, you resolved a situation that can be a pain in the ass to fix. Nice job!
Shrinking metal you really have to know what your doing ya the is a body hammer used just for doing this it has a waffle service on the face of the hammer less heat and water the old school guys know this ! Mike"s fn garage is good. !
As long as the metal is etched it will adhere well. Most of the smooth area that got POR15 on it will be sanded down when I epoxy prime. The POR15 used here is to ensure that the tiny rust pits leftover in the window sill don't come back
@@Vangabonders painting POR onto clean or non-rusty is poor, wasteful practice. Learn the chemistry of POR products and you'll learn it's a bad idea to apply it to anything not oxidized.
Wow you really did well with the torch first times a charm!
Nice work , I am learning something every time 👍
So much patience😮. It’ll be worth it in the end👍🏼
Great job! Oil canning a panel is my biggest fear while replacing bits on my 67 Kombi. Glad I found the channel & good luck with the rest of the bus.
Thanks! Good luck on your project!
wow, loads of cool new skills Kris, great video,
POR.... good stuff!
We all learn from our mistakes that is a rule of life and in this episode I learned something from yours.
As always Keep the good content coming. i
Bus is coming along nicely!
🙏 thank you

I have had the oil canning many times before. I have seen this technique but have never used it. Great demo 👍
Give it a shot next time!
@@Vangabonders For sure !!

Go kris I noticed the c bomb on your swage line 😅😂
haha it clearly says "can't" 😂😂
Great job!!!! What size of wire you are using for the mig welder???
I'm using 0.024" wire
Yesss I created a few of those and i m about to replace the whole side panels bcs i cant fix them back 🤦🏻
Try shrinking the metal before replacing the entire panel!

around 2:19 i start laughing so hard i almost piss my pants. wow i still see your face. lol
What Amp settings do you use for mig welding?
Not sure exactly what it translates to in amperage but on my Lincoln Mig180 I mostly use heat setting B

Bro what I didn’t understand any of this

POR = Paint Over Rust
Don't paint bare or non-rusty metal with it
As long as the metal is etched it will adhere well. Most of the smooth area that got POR15 on it will be sanded down when I epoxy prime. The POR15 used here is to ensure that the tiny rust pits leftover in the window sill don't come back
