I've been a user for many years and it works great. One suggestion. Make a video about how you can use this with Titan TV Guide (free on the internet) and do one-click recording which makes everything easier.
Wish you would have talked about the remote more and how it works. Do you have to have direct line of sight for it to work? My computer is under the desk and this would be connected to the back, thus no direct sight.
I'm using an old (dual-core 2.13 GHz), home theater PC (an 'HTPC') from 2007-2008. The only components I've upgraded are the video card (gaming), memory (maximum 4GB), and HDD (2TB; 7200 rpm). In terms of rendering/buffering performance, would this USB tuner have any advantage over other options that Hauppauge also provides? In other words, would this be better than a PCI tuner card?
well it would be easier to move from PC to PC if needed because its USB, I can;t directly compare this to a PCI tuner as I have not tested one of those in years.
Does this device support/show Closed Captioning (CC) for recorded shows from OTA TV? This is a very important feature for the hearing impaired viewer. Thanks for the product review.
It will work, unfortunately I only have the WinTV v8.5 app not with Extend (they want you to pay an extra 9.99 for that) But this tuner will support it.
I believe I mention you can (and should) use a better antenna.. lol but ya the one included will not do so well. I use a different one and get great results though..
I am looking for one that doesn't need a computer, any stand alone devices? I have the playstation display 3d tv and want to watch over the air tv but it only has hdmi and component cable, no coax cable connection
Obviously they would have to have different tuners as the signals are different in the US vs. AUS so yeah I would search to see what works best in your country.
I know this is a year late....but I have an old Dick Smith "Gadget Geek" brand version. Haven't tried it yet but assuming it will work, considering it was sold in an Aussie shop. Paid a $1 for it so....
Hello Galaxy Tech. Was wondering if you could do a segment on Sceencasting (other name varieties) for Android phones to HDTV without WIFI. It's a bit of a confusing topic for some. Just a suggestion. Love your work bro. Keep em coming. Cheers.
If you use an external Ariel or an Ariel with a Booster, you would get 100+ Channels. Why didn't you show the EPG that shows all the Channels and what's on.
thinking about getting one of theses so I can stream tv to my vr headset would this work for that ( my vr headset will be connected to my pc for the tuner to work obviously
That's interesting. I have an earlier 955Q WinTV and it does not support epg. It has a Titan TV associated guide that can set up future recording; but does not recognize the in-stream digital channel guide. @@GalaxyTechReview
+Hugh Mungus this particular model I think only picks up over-the-air signal in North America. As stated in the video in the beginning and at the end of the video it was $69 on Amazon link is in the description. If you're in Ireland I'm sure there are other models that will work for your particular country
I ordered one of these from Best Buy and they shipped one with no USB TV tuner, just everything else. I returned it and I'm waiting on my replacement. There were no seals on the box. :P
I told corporate they did this. I took the box to my local Best Buy store. They gave me my money back. Best Buy shipped me a good one and didn't charge me for it. I called corporate and they said not to worry about it.
Why don't they provide a tuner with an HDMI interface? Trying to record off of DirectTv is problematic. It's not impossible but you kind of have to stand on your head to do it.
They do. I've bought a cheap $39 Ematic tuner from Walmart. Remote controlled records and plays to a USB port, but also has component outs that you can hook to a vcr or dvd burner as well as HDMI and 75ohm out.
@@Wardell43 Thank you for your reply. I did eventually find the one with the HDMI interface on Amazon. Guess I just needed to look a little harder. I have it hooked up and it's working although I haven't tried to record anything with it yet, I don't foresee a problem though.
@@srulison We had one hooked up with a flash drive but never used it, So I pulled it out of my chain and stored it away. When we had cable, my wife used the dvr, I don't. But she isn't interested at this point. So we have a hd tv and used a splitter with one side going directly to the tv and the other to the converter box then hdmi out to the tv so you can record one thing and watch something else.

Can you confirm that it does work with Nvidia Shield? It would be nice, because Nvidia shield have the LiveChannels, that is a great Tv guide and it doesn't need a subscription, like Plex.
I just want freeview channels..I dont subscribe...so what advantage is this over the online Freeview channels?. (ie I can watch freeview channels via my browser.). My Tv broke , but Ive been able to watch(on my PC) all the channels online anyway, so I never replaced it.

Does the software work with other Haupauge products or does it have to be that software with that dongle?
This guys voice would make a GREAT MLB baseball announcer!!!
Haha thanks
does it record ok when recording 2 channels at the same time on a usb 2.0
Hi, once the software and applications are installed, do you need to be connected to the internet to watch tv?
No but for certain features of the guide to work you may need a net connection

What kind of antennae did you use? Is the antenna input a standard coax?
yeah the over the air antenna I used has a standard coax connection.
Is this for cable tv only or also for Satellite tv?
Does this device support/show Closed Captioning (CC) for recorded shows from OTA TV?
This is a very important feature for the hearing impaired viewer. Thanks for the product review.
Yes it does. Thanks for watching.
I guess it depends what kind of device you have, I use nvidia shield streaming box and closed caption doesn't work on it.
I want to watch DSTv from my leptop please advice which product should i buy
can you set it to record a certain show every week automatically?
Yes you can setup a DVR schedule to do that within the software
How good does the remote control work?
It's just OK... nothing to rave about but does the job.
Will this work with WinTv to extend to phone or tablet?
It will work, unfortunately I only have the WinTV v8.5 app not with Extend (they want you to pay an extra 9.99 for that) But this tuner will support it.
is it easy to hook up to a laptop?
Yes just need a USB port.
What are you supposed to do with that lil antenna? Good luck getting wkbd with it
I believe I mention you can (and should) use a better antenna.. lol but ya the one included will not do so well. I use a different one and get great results though..
can you plug in to router directly?
No as it needs drivers/software to run.
Have you tried using it with Plex? If so, what'd you think of that?
It's very nice, if you are a Plex user.
Will it work for TV cable chanels from central America
Any way live tv can be digitized to a non linear editing system?
Does it requires internet or cable connection????
Not if you use an antenna
Question: is it compatible with Windows Media Center?
It was back when I used it years ago.
You got a like from me purely because you played my Philadelphia Eagles!! Oh, and your video was good too.
I am looking for one that doesn't need a computer, any stand alone devices? I have the playstation display 3d tv and want to watch over the air tv but it only has hdmi and component cable, no coax cable connection
Try the iview or homework converter. It has a TV tuner, and records to USB or external hd
Thank you for the review!
Welcome
Can it record dstv
I tried hooking this up to my spectrum cable box and did not get any signal, what am I doing wrong?
can you stream from it to apple tv or firestick ?
No this is designed for use with PC.
Thanks for the response, looking for a similar device that works with Apple TV
Any idea
Great video production many thanks
how to make it compatible international?
How many channels can I expect to get form this? And also how is this different from just a regular HDTV antenna?
Depends on your location. And this allows you to hook this up to a pc and watch it there.
@@GalaxyTechReview if your in the desert you might get one channel if your lucky lol

Did you find out if it was possible?
Can you use this on a tv that has no built in tuner?
Don't think so as you need drivers/app to make it work.
can i hook in a TV cable from my Tv channel distributor ?
yes
are you able to get channels like Create TV and PBS?
I can get PBS here near philadelphia, it all depends on where you are located.
Element tv has HDTV Digital, PC input HDMI .would it work on my pc tv.

Not sure about TV Guide but there is a built in scheduler to schedule recordings.
Does it need internet or nah?
Only to download the TV guide info but other than that no
What about the remote? The one that was included in this product that I purchased doesn't work at all.
