Crazy how Ft. Sherman has been overgrown like that. I was there while serving in the Marines for about 6 weeks. I helped teach jungle warfare classes jointly with the Army, while on alert as the Air Contingency Battalion for the 1st Mar Div. We lived in those same barracks while I was there. How things have changed since 1988.

Very cool! I have now been through the canal 5 times. Twice helping others and 3 times on our own boat, a K Peterson 44 cutter. It was right when the canal was being turned over to Panama. Once admeasured, (about $350, we could transit for $90! So went E to W, W to E and and then back over to the Pacific to stay. Loved cruising Panama, both sides. We were going to stay there for 2 wks, but spent 2 yrs. Great cruising and Scuba (our other passion).
We ran charters in the San Blas for a very lucrative season. Then the Las Pearlas. We didn’t have UA-cam to make money with. So took people on 1-2 wk charters, sailing and diving. Usually 2-3 months of chartering paid for the rest of the year! Have followed you guys from the beginning. Great documentation. THANK YOU. And bless your wonderful family.

Yes in the 1920s Oxy-acetylene welding,in the UK so I am sure it was around in America They were two gases from tall tanks piped to what they call a torch with a welding rod that was for different types and depths of metal. Also you had to make sure you switched the knobs to get the right blue center white flame for the heat. I used to weld that way also could be used under water if an expert for that jobs.

A fascinating video and did not realise you were able to do your own line handling. I had heard there were issues with water levels in Lake Gatun to serve the needs of the canal so great you could get through. My only comment is that I was truly surprised you were not wearing gloves as having somebody suffer a rope burn would be bad news. Here's to the next set of videos from the Pacific. Enjoy!!!

What they’re getting won’t be available for much longer, hell, I got a visit from the police when someone complained about me climbing trees with my son when he was 5 😢
Your kids will one day thank you for allowing them to experience growing up this way.

@@maggierayner9408 Which is not what is going on here. This is a great example of balancing risk and reward. We have risks no matter where we live. Great parenting exposes children to as much of life as you can, while you can. I now question traditional schooling v homeschooling since you can provide awesome education whiles howing your kids what they are learning. The dangers in schools are truly greater than ever, as an example.
