  • Like many others, I love the Norwegian coastal route. The full 11-night roundtrip voyage calls at 34 ports up and down the Norwegian coastline, ranging from big cities to tiny villages, allowing guests to enjoy the very best activities and experiences Norway has to offer.
However, many international visitors struggle to pronounce many of the ports along the route. On my recent voyage on board the brand new Havila Polaris, I met someone who I thought would be perfect to teach us to say all 34 ports properly.
Watch and listen to Sverre Andreassen, Navigation Officer on the Havila Voyages ship Havila Polaris, as he explains how to say all the ports on Kystruten, the Norwegian coastal route.

Tussen Tak!! I'm trying very hard to at least not totally mispronounce the cities and people's names! I'll be on Havila Castor in June and I'm so excited!

Don’t worry too much! The Norwegian crew are used to all kinds of pronunciations, even within the Norwegian language =)

Thanks David! We are booked on the Polaris next week sailing the short round trip Tromsø → Kirkenes → Tromsø. Were you able to see the aurora at all given the weather?

Yes, on two nights. I’m making a much longer video about the voyage as a whole. I’m not sure if it’ll be ready before your trip, but perhaps it’d be full of spoilers anyway ;) Thanks for watching! 🙌

Thanks! The weather forecasts always look discouraging for aurora viewing, but I'm keeping my hope alive for a show while we are there. Keep up the great work!@@lifeinnorway1

He is a navigation officer, not the captain.

He’s a Navigation Officer, but still young for that role I’d say! He knows his stuff though 👍🏽
