    Dressage is like ballet. It takes years and years hard training. Tears and sweat and pain. Overcoming yourself and extreme difficulties. Then finally after years of hard work you go on stage and it all looks so beautiful, easy and enjoyable like there has never been any effort to achieve this level.
    The effort however is intense. You give everything to get there. Every tear is worth that high standart and grand beauty.

      Ballet is actually impressive and artistic. Dressage is a joke kept around so the elderly can get a medal.

    It takes years of training to get these horses to Grand Prix standard like Valegro....a good rider and a good horse make it look so easy...as with all the great athletes....but it is anything but easy. The horse has to be very strong, but controllable, and the rider has to have a lot of core strength to handle him...Dressage is so beautiful to watch and so amazing what these horses are capable of, and Charlotte Dujardin is superb, one of our best riders.

    Unreal. Seriously unreal. Yet so perfect it's almost boring. Makes me want to watch some people ride Training Level Test 1 on school horses. The rider might sit the trot like a sack of potatoes. The horse might canter at the wrong time, or just trot real fast when he's supposed to canter and have to be kicked into canter. The horse might go at a snail's pace on the free walk on long rein. The horse might hop out of the arena. They might be off of the center line at the end, and the horse probably won't square up when he halts. The judge might mutter to the scribe "moves like a guinea pig." Heard by me when I was a dressage scribe one time. If people try riding a horse then they will realize the kind of achievement this ride by Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro is.

      OMG the best laugh I've had - I remember my dressage test when I was 17 and was told my horse needed more discipline, yet his owner (I'm not the owner, just the rider) keeps on spoiling him and letting him do what he wants which is why I failed the test because I couldn't get him under control and doing what I ask him to do. It was kind of hilarious cos he kept on bucking when I asked him to canter and he kept on trotting instead. My trainers found another horse that needed work (owner didn't have time to ride her), she was the most amazing show-jumper I ever rode.

    I want to watch dressage in the next Olympics, whenever it may be. It looks fascinating and looks so difficult for the horse to move the legs at different times, especially the crossovers and doing it in place. They're really impressive. I can't see the rider's hand signals most of the time, which also must take a lot of time.

The rest all looked comfortable in what they were doing. RIo was not quite as good, but still progress is being made in elite dressage to consider horse welfare.

    As in every other sport, there is world-wide competition, so to do this very well as "very well" is define by top human performance, it is as difficult as any other sport if not more. Horse lameness is quite an issue, finding the right horse is another and spending lots of money (often meaning living like a poor person for a large part of your life) a third one.

      Dressage originated for war. Many of these movements were used to build strength to teach horses the airs above ground movements (which you won't see in this type of competition, but you can see if watch the horses at the riding school in venna). The airs above ground movements protected the rider and the horse in battle. They were trained to leap up in the air with a rider on their back and kick their legs out to scatter soldiers on the ground. They were trained to stand and hop on their back legs to protect the rider from swords and to come down on soldiers on the ground. The movements shown in this video are modernized versions of the movements required to build strength in the horse so they can do the airs above ground.

      This sport is also probably one of the most difficult olympic sports. This woman sat on a horse for the first time when she was 2 years old and she is now 31 years old. It took her 29 years of training to be able to do that. The horse won his first olympic gold medal when he was 10-year- old. He had a rider on his back for the first time when he was 3 or 4 years old. So it took 6 years to teach him all these movements. You can see now why this is an olympic sport as it's technically really difficult.

      A very happy horse indeed. To maintain a performance on this outstanding level, the horse must love to work for and with its rider. There is absolutely no other way to reach this level. The riders hands were soft and sensitive to his mouth and her legs subtle. A horse which can perform like this must enjoy it. Otherwise NO way. Never ever he could be doing this by force...

      Archery is a sport but it doesn't require the players to be sweaty and in tracksuits. However, it does require skill and focus as well as patience. Same thing as dressage. You need to develop the skill to train your horse to be as good as possible. That also requires patience because you're training an animal who doesn't speak your language and has no other way of communication. If anything, this may be one of the hardest sports in the Olympics.

    • @Lena-zn4re

      TheGentlemanGR What if I said soccer or relay is boring? I mean, soccer is just a bunch of people running on fake grass trying to get a ball into a net. And relay is just a bunch of people running in a circle, trying to pass a stick to the other person. I mean, nothing unique about it. So why shouldn't these sports be removed from the OG soon as well? See? Your argument is pathetic at best. You say you're not watching the video but news flash, YOU CLICKED THE VIDEO ergo you're watching it.

    • @Lena-zn4re
      @Lena-zn4re 7 років тому +9

      You say it's the most boring and uninteresting Olympic sport, but here's the thing.... YOU'RE WRONG. Because if it was "boring" then why would people show up and spectate the competition? Why would the Olympic organization include this sport? I find it amusing that you think what you say will actually influence people. Because this is your opinion, therefore there is no statistical evidence that what you're saying is true. Your opinion is just that, an OPINION.
