Dressage is a very complicated thing. It takes loads and loads of practice. LOADS. To be able to go out there, be on your horse, not knowing what can happen, and do it gracefully, is REALLY stunning.
Exactly, I get very tired of people thinking jumping is harder! Dressage, cross country, show jumping, they’re all SO difficult because of the certain skill sets they require from horse and rider!
Emelie Emeraldlake I really doubt that this lovely amazing rider beats her horse. She knows more than you do, that’s why she has a world champion horse on her hands not you.
Emelie Emeraldlake And yes I admit it dressage CAN be abusive and it can hurt horse, make the horses mouth bleed and the horses head is in the chest. I know that for a fact, I have seen some horses in GP level that look like pure trash and they don’t enjoy it. They swish their tails and their mouth bleeds, owners pull their reins and all that. I know and I admit it 100%, but if Valegro would be abuses in any way he would not be a world champion and world record breaker.
Dujardin has the unique ability to keep a horse balanced laterally and longitudinally within the idea of collection like no other, Nicole Uphoff had the same talent.
what I love about Dressage is it is a truly unique blend of horsemenship that does not involve torturing the horse to do unnatural things like high stepping Tennessee walkers which is outlawed but still going on
@Princess Tubehead I've watched 100's of horse training and videos of all types of riding. Some are so so bad. I do like Western though, just cringe when I see how they train them over in S.A. it's heartbreaking

Dont EVER let's others thoughts on your dreams make you give up. You WILL accomplish your dream as long as you WORK for it. And remember "If your dreams dont scare you, they are too small."
Wow, thank you. Really needed to see this since it’s my dream to one day compete at the Olympics in dressage along with so many other hefty goals that scare the living daylights out of me because I sometimes have crippling doubt that I’ll never make it. But that’s just negative self talk. I will make it, I will make it happen because it’s one of the few things I can’t get out of my head and I need to hold on to it and let it take me as far as I can go. Your words were really inspiring, I wish you good luck and every good fortune in your dreams🤗
I was told by an experienced dressage trainer that it takes about 13 years to train a horse to do high-level dressage moves; horses live on average into their late 20’s. As amazing as these warmbloods are, still the Spanish Riding School and their Lipizzaners take dressage to a whole ‘nother level. Amazing.
I am no way discrediting the hard work of modern equestrians and horses, but dressage has changed soooo much over the past decades.(For reference,I was born in 1950)The standards have changed so much!Nowadays they seem to put more importance on how far the horse can throw it’s legs haha.Back then the standards for rhythm and harmony were a lot higher.Kinda sad if you think about it.I see a lot of great horses with almost everything that don’t get too far just cause they can’t make 7 feet steps.
Sadly I think the issue is how humans always want more. Most horses have a completly disengaged hind and just flail their front because that's the way they've been trained. I would say Carl Hester is quite close to the dressage from years ago, or mainly the dressage before rollkur. Rollkur creates an artifical front and a dragging hind which pleases the uneducated eye, and is also a shortcut for many riders. A big step becomes wonderful when trained correctly and when gives time, just like a small step becomes equally wonderful. Both trained in a harmful way creates a disengaged and tense horse. I could give several examples of horses that have a clearly hollow back and disengaged hind and link studies on how behind the vertical can affect the horse (:
Just watched your video with Muffin. A lovely pony who knows her mind. I would definately take lessons with her. I was around horses since l was 3, but my experience is limited.
It's tough, i tried the same with this raccoon hanging around my house. I just got scratched to bits, and he wasn't even good at it. He couldn't even pull off a decent Pas De Deux.
😅😅 I like horses but unfortunately have only been on a horse twice. I don't know a thing about Dressage but I really wish I did so I could better appreciate all the work that I'm sure goes into these performances. I wish I could see it with a riders eye. LOL I don't understand how they get their horses to do all this. I keep watching close to see how they make them dance but I literally don't even see the rider do anything. I'm sure they're doing a lot..I know they are but I can't tell. 😭
It is so annoying that the British commentator just kept on talking about Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester when other riders were in the middle of their test. If you can't not show bias, you shouldn't be commentating unless it's for British tv. Really disrespectful behavior! I know every Brit in the dressage world loves to gush over their national stars but this is not the place to do it and it doesn't show a lot of professionalism either.
Exactly! Especially if you consider that Germany 🇩🇪 as a whole is better. The German commentator usually gushes about other riders‘ performances, too. He is absolutely brilliant
My experience: Look up the history of horseshoes, see terms like "farrier" and "dressage," hmm what is that? Okay, I see pictures, but it looks just like fancy pomp horse riding, maybe if I see it in action I'll understand a little better. So I hop on UA-cam, click around on this, and see the first time mark for the American. Huh, that looks really regal and elegant. He's dressed to the 9s and putting on airs of posh and polish. Aaaand then Ice Ice Baby starts.
And he shouldn’t have used that music because it was plagiarised from the band Queen and Under Pressure.. look it up. As for Dressage it’s wonderful and VERRRY difficult ..I know. 😂😂🏴🇬🇧
Would love to see a future where spurs are removed from competitive dressage and perhaps all manner of bits too. There seems to be far too much rib poking happening and sadly too many of these beautiful creatures look stressed and unhappy. Once you notice these things, it's hard to enjoy the performances 😔

Can someone please explain to me why prancing around on a horse is an Olympic sport? Not trying to hate, just trying to understamd.
Dressage comes from training your horse to be ready to go into battle and be able to navigate your way through a battlefield without getting stabbed by a sward. Takes a lot of physical fitness to move in harmony with the horse and maintain a strong posture for over 6 minutes in the test. More sporty in my opinion than curling and golf for example.
You try riding to this level .. then tell me it’s not sport.. they train as much as any other sportsperson..AND a horse is unpredictable .. not like an inanimate object that has no will of its own ..
