In defense of baileys finisher, its not just hugging and falling on top of them. In that hold you literally grab and squeeze and opponent , driving them to the ground . You’re getting squashed by someone hanging on to you. And depending on whose applying the move, the severity of the impact varies.
Not to mention Umaga had his thumb taped up, which would give more stiffness to it to cause pain. All of these moves if done for real, would hurt someone DOWN SOUTH!!!
The only thing it ever hurt over the years was Hogan’s own spine. It actually caused him to shorten his height because of the spinal compression. He said in an interview recently that a guy boasting arms the size of his should’ve been using a sleeper hold. It would’ve made more sense gimmick wise. Now he’s hobbling around on two rebuilt knees and rebuilt hips because of that leg drop. And after hearing him say that I can’t disagree. It would’ve given him the option of incorporating submission matches here and there. He was already burying almost everyone he faced anyway, at least he could’ve helped put a few over like when Bret hart made austin pass out instead of tapping out at mania 13. Austin was turned into a legend because he fought and scratched until he passed out because his body literally gave up on him without him having to decide to tap, or at least that was the storyline we were given, but damn if it didn’t work. Piper would’ve been an awesome guy to use in that kind of scenario!
My friend used to defend the people's elbow by saying "the rock gathers all his chi, and then he drops the elbow. That's why it's so devastating." We were 13, but still...
The Rock Bottom is the finisher. The people’s elbow is the setup move. Kinda like Hogan’s big boot. The Rock rarely pins anyone after the People’s elbow.
Ok, Santino's move is very affective in what it does, and that is to entertain. It also really fit his character. As a kid, I remember people loving him, I did as well. He was a riot to watch.
@@user-roninwolf1981 yeah but again its a thumb and people wouldn't understand it's effectiveness. Its like mosquitos, they are deadly just dont look like it
The cobra and somoan spike are essentially moves that appear to hit a pressure point (carotid artery) to knockout the opponent. There's also a pressure point technique called a blood choke which is squeezing the arteries on both sides of the neck to stop blood flow to the brain causing your opponent to pass out.
The spike and cobra are actually pretty good and could even be lethal of done right. Going for pressure points would surely incapacitate one long enough for the 3 count.
I think the wasteland slam was far more impactful. I know it may not have "looked" it, but having done judo, I know that getting slammed like that would legit take it out of you. It's almost a samoan drop. Something that could have been a finisher but has become a throwaway move like the DDT
the bullhammer is a fantastic finisher, even if it is strike. it's just so easy to do with no set up. i'd rank it up there with RKO/diamond cutter and piledriver for great finishers. keep in mind, it's a move that not everyone can get away with, like jbl's clothesline from hell.
All the new wrestlers that you are showing that didn't come from the attitude era suck that's why no one watches wwe today that can't even shoot a promo with out looking fake just saying
The Worm is the worse finisher in Smackdown 2, always gets interrupted if it's not a singles match. Joke aside a real chop like that to the windpipe with full force could actually hurt way more than half the finishers out there.
The only finisher I've used on a fly successfully is an 'OPEN PALM SLAP'. Don't know if it counts as a finisher but I have a really high win/loss record with it.
The Rock Bottom was the actual finishing move of the Rock, the People's Elbow was done for crowd reaction.. That is why he went through all of theatrics of removing the elbow pad and throwing it into the crowd first.
Thing with the people's elbow was it was rarely used as a finisher. His finisher was the Rock Bottom. People's elbow was a move he used as icing on the cake, like an added insult to his opponent. That's why it worked. He always did it after he'd dealt a load of damage. Also, an elbow to the chest would not only hurt a fly, it would probably kill you.
@@miguelgagne3820 the thing that made it a finisher is that he as real strength to get height on the throw to make it more believable a KO than just flipping someone onto their back. Especially when he flips the biggest opponents that some others in his weight class couldn't even keep off the ground as long as he does. If he couldn't use it on big opponents and just let them roll off it would just be a horizontal version of Barrett's Wasteland
There's been a sht ton of crappy finishers in WWE over the years. But that choke slam into a Samoan Spike looked badass. It could only be done on smaller guys tho.
The people's elbow is iconic more because of the whole theatrics to and the gimmick than the actual elbow drop. When the rock slammed someone in the middle of the ring and looked up, you just knew it was coming and he was about to win so it made the build up hype asf.
Yeah...there are a few on here that would actually hurt if they ACTUALLY being done, like for real. I think the title and point of this video is slightly, if not unintentionally, misleading. Besides, there are a LOT of moves WAYYYY more deserving of being on this list. Hell, I'd say 70%-75% of this list could be buried under more deserving moves a few times over.
It Can Kill A Person,Because A Thumb being jammed Into Your Throat Which Will Prevent You from breathing And Will Make You Gag And Choke,Plus If The Person Doing The Move Had A Brittle And Long Nail,It Can Cut Through The Throat If The Throat Was Slim or Weak And Unresillient
When I was kid, I always feared Umaga using the Samoan Spike on his opponents. But knowing the theatrics of sports entertainment and learning that the spike actually targets the opponent’s shoulder safely, its good to know that Umaga can make a weak finisher strong.
The super kick might actually be able to hurt someone but it’s lazy. Like Micheal’s couldn’t come up with anything else. But then again I was never a fan of pretty boy Micheals.
@@alienlife7754 i'm not a fan of michaels, but i will give him the ONLY credible super kick. when he used it, people went down. there was no such thing as a "Super kick party" in those days because he only needed one. he also did a running start a lot of times, so that helps sell it as devastating. generally, strikes are bad for finishers, though. you just spend the whole match striking that person. what makes the finisher special?
@E3W what makes all those kicks different than all the other kicks in a match, though? that's why they are bad finishers. sure, they would hurt in real life, but a punch to the face in real life is enough end most fights.

Olamilekan Ogunsola imagine a giant man ramming a rod into your throat. Sorry but you are going down. That’s the idea of the move even though it’s scripted so he doesn’t actually stab your throat with his thumb.
Gotta comment when I see Umaga's finisher in the list. As I was a kid, I tried it on my younger brother - it made him choke and cannot breath for a while, his face turned pale and I had to call my mom to the rescue. So yeah, Umaga even covered his thumb with hard layers of cloth so I guess it should feel like poking a hard stick to your throat
Its not actually a matt it's would that is underneath it. So yea it is tough but the move itself is still farely weak. regardless of how much force you can generate from that position. A powerbomb is a much better slam move or even a backdrop.
I agree. If you did that to someone in real life, there's a chance you would actually injure them. But, Wasteland should be more of a signature than a finisher
@@seanthomxx2694 Wasteland could be his Signature 7-9ft away from a corner then a Top Rope Move as a Finisher that matches his character. (Bc let's face it, he'll never be doing Shooting Star's or Swanton Bomb's with the athleticism he has.)
Do you really think Umaga would actually, with full-force, spike his friends in the throat? @@kahmorastimemanagement6096 no one thinks umaga would use it for real lol, the video is about moves that they think won't hurt a fly if you do it to someone, so the samoan spike shouldn't be in the list because actually doing it would hurt someone bad. Hence the comment.
@@macabidz but it talked about a fly, how would you jab a fly. The video also used it in context in an actual wrestling match and how it functions. Im pretty sure they meant it wouldnt hurt when executing it because a diving crossbody and a suplex isnt the most painless even when done with caution.
Nah, it's the opposite It looks way more effective on small people It's faster and more clean and doesn't look like he's gonna break his neck while doing it unlike when he did it to Mark Henry and The Big Show
@Ruthless Attitude Entertainment I believe it was usually the other way around. Usually The People's Elbow was used to weaken and daze the opponent; either he'd pin and they'd get up into a Rock Bottom, or they'd get up from the Elbow as Rock posed and prepped the Rock Bottom. Another move that was part of this combo was the Tornado DDT...or at least his cool version of it. If it didn't start with that it would start with something like a fallaway slam...or was it a spinebuster...🤔
I would’ve swapped the Samoan Spike for Hulk Hogan’s leg drop or Ultimate Warrior’s splash. Imagine taking a hard thumb right to the windpipe. The whole artery thing was a bit silly, as I feel like explaining that it’s a jab directly to the windpipe would have been a much better selling explanation.

In defense of baileys finisher, its not just hugging and falling on top of them. In that hold you literally grab and squeeze and opponent , driving them to the ground . You’re getting squashed by someone hanging on to you. And depending on whose applying the move, the severity of the impact varies.
The Samoan Spike I think that move could actually hurt someone since you're aiming for their throat with a lot of force.
Or the eye.

Oh it hurts. Trust me
Yeah that is true lmfao
IDK.. I use to do it to my brother when we were kids.. LOL

The cobra and somoan spike are essentially moves that appear to hit a pressure point (carotid artery) to knockout the opponent.
