What About Bad Days?

- Maybe "bad" isn't the right word. Hard days? Challenging days? Days when there's a disconnect and everything is just a challenge? The hardest thing to do is resist the urge to prompt and help so she's successful. The closest thing I can imagine is that it's like a brain fog and she just can't make things work in her head. It's tough but at least she has a good attitude through it.

“If you have time to lean, you have time to clean!”. - Sheldon Cooper.
My manager says that too. I hate hearing it now lol
Yeah Sheldon Cooper said that on the show, but I think everyone's manager said that first LOL 🤣
And that's when I reply, you have time to tell me to clean you can pick the broom up yourself

I just love how she is becoming so accomplished at living skills.
Asa, understanding that she is on her clock not yours is a huge thing. I'm glad you get it. Having patience like that for her clock is the most significant way to be on a path for achievement. When I learned that, it was huge for me. And it made things so much more easier and less stressful. I never thought I would have patience like that. And the rewards were so much more impactful and beneficial.
❤
I’m so proud of her. I see her frustration
I like the fact that you talk to her as an adult rather than childlike or less than adult. If that makes sense. You are firm with what she needs to get done and I see a big impact on what you do to help her live as independent as possible, even through her tough bad days. Doing great!
I think her hitting herself is frustration not sensory. My O.C.D gets in the way with teaching my child
I think Asa knows what's sensory and what's frustration with Abbie
@@sarahmccarthy4462 I not saying he doesn't, but with our experience with this, I know the sensory is there but when they get frustrated they will hit themselves so we know we have to step back a little bit
Working in this field, two things are at point: 1. Frustration is sensory. 2. You can only guess the emotion. Unless she outfight tells you the emotion she is feeling, you can only guess by how you would feel. Sensory is used as a coping mechanism, and emotions are a part of that.
@@sarahmccarthy4462 oh boy, you with your rude clapbacks. Seriously, tone is EVERYTHING. You can be kind and helpful at the same time. Snarkiness and rudeness just makes people not want to hear what you're saying. 😊
I really love the patients you have with Abigail. The way you think is just amazing. He is such a cool father. Abigail is so lucky to have you.
Tough day for Abby❤I’m glad you have the ability to flex and lighten things up on her when she’s struggling a bit. I’ve had some foggy memory days myself lately and my husbands support makes it possible for me to give myself a little grace. Abbie powered through though! No meltdown or tantrum. She’s come a long way
I've started watching your channel since i seen your youtube shorts. I have Pervasive Developmental Disorder Non Specified. My son (5) has Sensory Processing Disorder. We also have our fair share of challenging days in my house. Some days i'm easily frustrated. You inspire me as a parent with your gentleness and love toward your daughter. I have been learning a lot from your parenting and appreciate you sharing your family with us.
You're a great teacher Asa! You have amazing patience! WTG DAD!💕🤗
Her communication is just fabulous!! The clear head nods in response to questions is such an amazing feat from where she was even a couple of years ago. Way to go Mom and Dad!
Feat???? Only a Normal
Unloading the dishwasher is a struggle here too. Abby does better than my teens who just shove everything wherever it will fit and I end up having to rearrange it afterwards. 😂Abs seems to be struggling today. Like she’d rather be anywhere else than doing her chores. I feel ya Abby! Some days just stink but we push through anyway.
Asa, you have the patience of a saint. I’m still working on mine. I love how understanding and loving you are when guiding Abby. You inspire me to do better all the time. Thank you for sharing your precious family with the world!
I have a daughter (30), she has Down Syndrome. Only special people get special people! She truly blessed to have y'all.
I haven't watched in a couple months, so seeing how well Abby did with the dishes was amazing! You all are working your butts off. I love days like this. It's such a high to see your child be so awesome. Also, cool Sublime shirt, Abby!
Right?! I love catching up after a while! Its always so remarkable to see.
Thank you so much for sharing your daily life with us. My 16 year old son has autism and in several areas he’s on track with Abbie, both in behavior and development. Watching your videos helps me feel more connected and “seen” if you will. Also, I absolutely adore Abbie. She makes me smile so much.
Same for me too
Asa you must of had so much fun filming the opening sequence. That was fun to watch.
She still puts dishes away better than me
Asa. I can't even explain how much I enjoy seeing how you help Abbie with day to day activities. She has grown so much in the short time since you and Priscilla have become her teacher.
I think everything you teach her is a life skill and it takes time and patience. Your doing a great job dad.
I wish life had agreed with my plans to become a behavioral specialist. I really enjoyed working with kiddos who had special needs. I loved learning about ABA and IEP work. It was an incredibly rewarding job. I loved helping the students I worked with learn and often times be able to transition into lives that helped them keep that sense of humanity. My own health got too bad to go forward with that dream but I kind of watch through you and remember when I was the one doing hand over hand prompting, etc. I miss it.
My heart is going for her, each day she is does her best as she can. I do love her matter what each day.
I even still work with children with autism and special needs I also used to work with the adults and I hate not being able to do it anymore. I ended up coming down with some health issues which stop me from doing that type of work and I miss it so much
It's very rewarding I loved it so much
That was supposed to say I used to work with children with autism and special needs My health got in the way as well and had to stop doing that type of work
Never give up on your dreams. Maybe you can still do it but in a different way? I have autism and I find somethings I just do in a different way then others. But never give up on dreams.
She tries so hard,my heart goes out to her🥰
Hannah here- baby is doing fantastic job she is way better than my 48 year old brother
You know we all have days like that. Great job Abby! You are such a sweetheart and you ALWAYS try your best. Sending you big hug!🤗🤗🤗🤗
Abbie I have those days too, but you worked your way through it without giving up.💕
Asa show us the unedited part where she was putting away the bowl. What went down? I'm curious!
All those camera angles from the dishwasher were so cool
Have you thought about putting pictures of the dishes on the door of the cupboards and drawers? To help her remember where things goes and then once she's able to put it away without frustration, take the pictures off?
I was think drawing shapes on the shelf or draw so you know how far in the cupboard stuff goes or if something goes in a draw when there isn’t another in the draw (like with a spatula). I don’t know if I would work in a draw with lots of stuff.
@@TessaOswin shadowing takes hours, the tacky back used to stick them down begins to peel up within no time. We did this in our classrooms of little children. It doesn’t always work, a circle is a circle, it could be a cup, plate, bowl… my toes and foot are stimming thinking about it!
Removing tacky back the clear sticky plastic covering leaves a mess too, but…a tip for free too 😂 applying furniture polish and rubbing with a rough ish cloth gets it off. If it’s just a small area your usual household polish (I had smell it from memory, weird how that happens) is fine, if it’s a lot go buy the cheap, generic, supermarket’s own brand, for this it works just as well 😊
I don’t miss that part of teaching are buckets, jugs, watering cans or anything capable of transferring water to another area, poured into the sand tray or sand into the water. Or a child finding the food colouring used by staff to tint the water and there are children with bright coloured skin 😂🤦🏼♀️
She is doing amazing be proud u have taught her well
As an aspiring RBT this perspective is just fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing your journey.
you are an amazing father.. I caught your videos by chance and I love watching her grow and accomplish things!! She is a beautiful lady!!
I'm so proud of her her dearly chores is getting better and better each day🥰
So proud to have these videos to share with my friends, who too have children with autism. Proud of you guys for sharing. Thank you.
She did great… you’re an awesome father. Thank you for sharing your journey. My Godson is 4 and autistic and we all are learning.❤
Abbie kept on going and got there in the end emptying the dishwasher, with some prompting from you Asa, but you could certainly see her struggle. You both are really awesome parents. Blessings.
I'm loving the rando camera angles. In the cup, on the knife, in the dishwasher
I have an autistic son who is now in his 30s. The bad days got less when he was out of his teens. You are doing fine. Abbie is adorable and has made great progress.
One thing that other parents have noticed is that teen girls may have some behavioral difficulties near their periods.
Minds does, she is 16
Hannah here- thanks for sharing your life abby and family !!
I appreciate your struggles and celebrate the accomplishments. She is doing so well. I 💕 love your videos.
She's grown so much 🥰😭
Father of 3yo non verbal autistic son, these videos help, thanks guys.
What you have done with this beautiful young lady is astounding. She understands so much and by posting her life - i think many other parents with children with autism can learn from you. I have been binge watching your videos and I do not believe you are exploiting her like so many other family vloggers do.
Thank you mom and dad
She stole my heart with that shirt!!!
I'm so jelly over your kitchen Cilla! Abbie, great job!
My two boys have tough days. Watching this brought to tears 😢 😭
Thank you for sharing your day/nights, love you videos
May your family have many blessings. You guys are incredible and I wish I had the patience and motivation you both show with you daughter. Its just a beautiful thing to watch
Love seeing Abbie doing household chores its so awesome ❤
Love the camera angles great shots
Great job Abbie! Love how you guys are teaching her life skills ❤️
I have learnt a lot from the whole Family, but Abby the most. 💜
when she was doing the dishes she remembered me of just another teenager who just doesn't want to fo something.
love your videos
“You got time to lean you got time to clean!” 😂😂 Prior service and I always said that to my troops when they had kitchen duty.
the bowl placement part was cut quickly.
LOL, I noticed that too! 😹
a very much appreciate the montage its so satisfying to watch
I go through of the same moments with my 7 year old who has adhd. It's frustrating sometimes, but I'm glad I'm not alone.
Wonderful to watch so much patients GB
She teaches me everyday. ♥️♥️♥️
I love that she kept switching hands that’s cute
Even tho tough day Abbie still Rocked it doing an Awesome job 🥰 Way to go Abbie 🥰🥰
What if y’all put pictures on the drawers and cabinet so she can match where they go ? Maybe that would help her
Asa you are an awesome Dad
I love that even though she was getting frustrated, she worked through it! Way to go Ab! I cant wait to see the new office look!🥰🥰 Have a great Wednesday everyone!!💚💚
Love you bunches and Nathan
Hope she doing well and awesome
I feel like we're playing peek a boo with all the hidden camera angles LOL
Abby has come a long way. Over the year's, that I have been watching her.
Abbie did a great job despite struggling a little. Just an over sensory day, there are better days!
Awesome job 👏 Abby ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜❤️
You have taught me a lot by watching your videos.
You are so patient with her. I love watching you both work with her
Way to go Abbie for getting the task done even if it took some extra time and effort and for you too Asa for having so much patience and understanding. Oh btw, had dinner at the Blue Fish last night for hubbies bday and it was delicious! I remember you videoing there before. We will definitely go again. 😙👌
Your doing fantastic abbie!
This is unite a complex task, isn;t it? I can see how far she has come, how much you have already taught her. You should both be so proud of what you’ve accomplished so far.
I have a,21 and 19teen old daughters and they do kinda the same thing.mind you they don't have autism, but they try and work you every day because that's what kids do there age when they don't want to do it 😂. Abbie is your typical teenager .love her
As someone who washes dishes fora living Abbie is doing great
That was some great insight and a learning experience for me as well.
40 oz is a great album.
My son is 8yo ABA has us backing off verbal promts and it's SO HARD!!!!!
Those camera angles! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hannah here- abby great job vavcuuning , dishwasher etc !!
I really enjoyed being a part of the dishes today 😂
Aw look’s like Abby is having a rough day. Tomorrow will be better.😊
Awesome job Abbie you go girl . That the way I think to best to do what works best :).
My great uncle was a farmer. He ate his pie between two slices of bread. It wasn't as messy. Especially out in the field when he was working.
I think Abbie should be recognized for the time she is expected to spend here on the vlog. That maybe should be on her to do list. At 17 a neuro typical 17 year old would probably be highly resistant to her whole life on video. Although we all live to see her it can’t be easy to be critiqued on most everything you do through out the day. Abbie we’re all really proud of you and appreciate all you do!
Abbie actually loves to watch herself and when she doesn't want to be recorded then they don't record her
I’ve seen her tell Asa to put the camera down before, and he does immediately. She’s capable of that, so if she was uncomfy, she’d just tell him to stop☺️
She shiouldn't be expected to spent time on the vlog.
Abbie actually tells Asa and Cilla when she feels like filming. There are vlogs where she isn't in them because she doesn't want to be.
@@rosiec1974 So Abbie has a No i don't wanna be on a vlog on her IPad? Seriously he needs to put that on her IPad.
I love your kitchen
This video was so relaxing to watch! I enjoyed it a lot Asa!!
Great skills, daddy and Abbi
Hi you lovely people I’m watching from UK England and it’s 1 o’clock in the morning just can’t sleep
YASSSS Sister!!! ❤ the Sublime shirt she is rocking! 😂
Life is like one big table task 😃
Nice sublime shirt, Abby!!♥️
Hi from SC!
Nice inicial shoots!!❤🎉amazing camera work !!
So I seen you cut the bowl part ,is there a reason that was cut out if its real life an we want to see what happened 🤔
I feel ya Abbie. I have days where I’m brain foggy and the executive function just isn’t there. But it’s okay to have those days sometimes.
Dangerous to vacuum without shoes….happened to me
It doesn't matter who it is. We all have bad days. It is how we cope or how people help us cope that makes all the difference. Abbie has come so so far in coping with difficulties. You and Cilla and the other members of her care team have done and are doing an amazing job. Abbie has learned so so much through your dedication and love. Great vlog as always.
I so agree with u she's such a sweetheart I just love love her and them they're doing amazing with her it feels me with joy to watch them
Great camera work! Tough Day, I love that The Lord made beautiful understanding people like you guys. ❤️
