For those who can't hear it. Go to Preferences -> Audio -> General Tab -> uncheck "Input monitoring only for the focused track, and only when input monitoring is enabled (like in GarageBand)"
FYI, "input monitoring only for focused track" needs to be off. So you can play midi and do vocals at the same time. Choose Preferences > Audio > General and make sure that Input monitoring for focused track and record enabled tracks is unchecked.
Hi. Followed all the steps exactly and can't make it work. When I create an instrument track it defaults to classic electric piano and adds extra aux and buses so I can't set it up like you do. Any ideas?
Once you have the vocoder with the midi, how do you bounce it to audio for the mastering engineer? Because when I bounce the vocoder track in place there’s no audio in the bounced traxk
Maybe this is depending on what software you're using. For me it was as simple as lighting up the "monitor" button, assign a midi track to the vocalsynth track, and everything worked smooth. Hope it helped.
After I set up the bus, I'm not getting any signal to my instrument. It's showing signal in my audio track, but nothing coming through to the instrument track. HLP
does this plugin work for pro tools? I'm wondering if I would use it. thanks for the instructions but I have to buy a PC or laptop to use pro tools. what type of microphone studio you're been using in the video?
Thanks Sean for the excellent video :) but what's the difference between your way of setting up the Midi mode and the way Vocal synth 2 instruction showed how to set up Midi Mode?
Hi Sean, thanks for the quick reply, I try both ways on Logic Pro X, and they worked the same, so I guess in beta version there was a bug or something, anyway thanks for letting me know :) and keep up the good work Sean! Awesome videos :)))
After setting up the second track as you show , and routing the output of the initial VOCAL SYNTH 2 track to BUS 1 and setting the side chain in the second track (AU MIDI Controlled ) to BUS 1 , there sound coming through the first track only ( not the software instrument track / 2nd track ) Is there something that I'm missing ? Thanks !
AWESOME TUTUIAL MAN! I set the routing same but I still hear the dry signal a little bit. any idea what I might be doing wrong? or does it need a little dry signal In order to trigger vocal synth?
midi notes show up. went to my midi studio, preferences etc. and its detected and works fine. but when I follow these steps and play my keyboard it doesn't affect my vocals whatsoever!
Hey Sean, Thanks for posting this video, super helpful. I tried your method and the Vocal synth instructions and both work. However, I can't completely get rid of my dry signal. It sounds faint but I can still hear it in there and it's distorting the quality of the sound I want to get. Do you have any additional suggestions on how to completely remove the dry signal? Does your dry signal completely go away when you do it? Thanks!
it won't let me change the original vocal track output to a bus, it won't even do anything when I click on the output(stereo out) any help with this is greatly appreciated!!
You can explain how to install VocalSynth because it deletes a protected folder x password and I do not know what to do because it is a protected folder x w 10 folder ANEMONE.PNG
Ok, it's likely just a newer version that has that style of buttons. For what it's worth - if you made a GUI skin for Logic, I'd buy it haha. I still use your hi hat tricks btw - thanks for making the best tutorials!
found the sidechain option, however its still not working. I can hear audio from my instrument track, but not when I want to use it as a vocoder for my vocals. FUCKING FRUSTRATED!
so glad there are others who followed every step and it doesnt work. was feeling like a fucking loser. maybe we all are. i thought the whole thing with computers is if you do the same thing on identical machines you get the same output. glad to be a composer not an engineer every day except today
For those who can't hear it. Go to Preferences -> Audio -> General Tab -> uncheck "Input monitoring only for the focused track, and only when input monitoring is enabled (like in GarageBand)"
Thanks a billion dude i was so confused
What should I do if I still only hear my dry vocal and no vocoder? (Followed all other details correctly)

Thanks, but what about recorded guitar? How to make "Talk Box" for recorded guitar? Thanks!👍

my man
This can be applied to vocal synth 1.0 for those who don't have the update.
THANKS A LOT !
sure thing!
thanksss man ! peace
Thanks, Sean.
Cheers for this bro! Found it super useful, even though I know how to do this, sometimes it still catches me out!
glad to hear it George!
SOOOO helpful thank you!

I'm still so confused. I'm doing what you're saying in this video, but it's not working. 😖
perfect tutorial bro!
:)
Ignore the previous comment, I fixed that issue. So now my screen is identical to yours but I have no output from vocal track or keyboard
Your Music is great!!!
thanks man!
Thank you. I think in the Help of Vocal Synth it wasn t explained very well.
nice video man, how does it work on ableton ?
Great VDO Thanks
sure thing Tong!
Great video, Sean please do a Video of how to mix a Boom Bap sample beat !!
J. Awbskure Vargas lmfao
I know this is a bit late in the piece but is it possible to play another Software instrument, eg, piano and play the VS2 live over the top?
How can I hear the vocoder in my headphones\monitors before having to record?? Like if I were to perform live. Please Help!
software / input monitoring (not directly through your interface)
Maybe this is depending on what software you're using. For me it was as simple as lighting up the "monitor" button, assign a midi track to the vocalsynth track, and everything worked smooth. Hope it helped.
@@SeanDivine Is that supposed to help? How do I not monitor directly through my interface?

me too
what's the solution?
is there any way to do this in fl studio?
When I go to select my bus as the side chain, it just says Bus 1, not Bus 1 + VocalSynth like yours does. Any idea why?
Sam Nolte you can name the audio track Vocal Synth 2 :)

hey Michael, not certain I just know the instructions didn't work for me (at least in the beta) and this method did
Hi Sean, thanks for the quick reply, I try both ways on Logic Pro X, and they worked the same, so I guess in beta version there was a bug or something, anyway thanks for letting me know :) and keep up the good work Sean! Awesome videos :)))
I keep rewatching this cause I can't remember HAHA

Is there something that I'm missing ? Thanks !
same here I can't seem to figure out why
it works only when the audio track with the vocal is not muted, know the reason to this?
it works for me then quickly stops working. :(
Hey man, great video thank you - I still can't seem to get rid of my DRY vocals even after following your steps. Any tips?
Did you turn off input monitoring on the vocal track?
Yes I did do that
AWESOME TUTUIAL MAN! I set the routing same but I still hear the dry signal a little bit. any idea what I might be doing wrong? or does it need a little dry signal In order to trigger vocal synth?
Turn on direct monitoring in your DAW
This is cool! Sorry if this has been asked before but could you use Midi mode to create realistic backing harmonies instead of a vocoder effect?!
literally i'm doing all these things and its not working. any reason why this won't work?
if you're following everything exactly here in logic pro x it should as it does in the video. What is the result for you? No sound?
midi notes show up. went to my midi studio, preferences etc. and its detected and works fine. but when I follow these steps and play my keyboard it doesn't affect my vocals whatsoever!
How would you bounce out the audio from the vocoder region?
Hey Sean, Thanks for posting this video, super helpful. I tried your method and the Vocal synth instructions and both work. However, I can't completely get rid of my dry signal. it should, make sure you don't have any monitoring options on from your audio interface
@@SeanDivine Solid! Thanks Sean, I'll give that a shot and see if it solves the problem. Much appreciated

it doesn't work:(
Hey Sean, do you have a custom color scheme for logic?
not that I know of :) I have the piano roll set to "bright background"

hello sir, how do we record/capture sound in one track from another track playing? thank you.
bussing / sends
Doesn't work. no sidechain option in pro tools. help plz!
