Great action filming and content of the Gannon Box. I remember seeing the same form on massive road equipment in the 70's. Now 50 years later having a small tractor and Tarter Box Blade 60" w/scarifiers I find it to be a art to utilize all the different features it's capable of. I have heard 'Gannon Box" or "Rollover Box" used but never could visualize until this video. Thanks, it's almost like a time piece in History. One more term used is the 'Fresno Box'. They all have some interesting History.

Actually that size is for garden tractors. My dad had one that was about 8 ft wide for big tractors.
As a kid I used to sit or lay down on that thing when he was using the rippers. It was kind of like a hammock.

I have one identical to that one but 3 times bigger. Never knew what it was called because all the labels worn off. Now I know, thanks!

I believe that Gannon is still in business that is a very old style of rollover scraper like my dad had on his big Massey Ferguson farm tractor. Gannon is one of the major manufacturers of drag boxes for construction skip loaders.
My dad's scraperbox/drag box/graddingbox like that was about 7 feet wide. His was probably from the 1940s. I don't know if his was a ganon or some other brand. That design is almost identical. I have seen those with other brands on them that look just like that. When my dad would put the ripper teeth down I would often sit down on top of that thing just to go for a ride while he was scarifying the ground.
I have seen modern reproductions of that roll over scraper but they're hard to find.
Those are usually used in construction and the modern Gannon is a totally different design and does not flip over but it does angle two different directions and has rippers that come down from the top by a hydraulic cylinder. But Gannon is definitely a brand name not a product name. Just like not all skip loaders are Ferguson's or fergie's. And not all skid steer loaders are bobcats. And not all four wheel drives are Jeeps and not all motor homes are winnebagos etc etc.
I was recently asked to come out to a job and bring a Fergie key for the tractor. Apparently they did not know a Fergie from a John Deere. Massey Ferguson still makes garden tractors and very light duty agricultural tractors. They no longer make larger agricultural tractors to my knowledge and they also do not make industrial tractors anymore. I believe they sold their industrial division to Terex who was probably bought up by Agco or some other big conglomerate that has been buying up a lot of the tractor companies from history.
    Sorry for the history lesson.

I found one of those Gannon rollover scrapers for sale for about $800 it's about 6 ft wide. I loved my dad's old rollover scraper.
I found a bunch of pictures of rollover scrapers, some look brand new. One of them looks like my dad's built back in the forties.
The one you have is the smallest one I've ever seen.
I found a picture of a very modern one looks like it's made out of thin metal and they have to add bracing it to keep it from bending.

I just found one of those earthcavators online. It's made under the bush hog brand name.
But I just found a website that has lots of those excavators for sale. I wish I had the money. I wish I had a tractor put it on. 😀

The cool thing about this Earthcavator is that you can change it from box scraper to ground ripper to backward dozer blade without getting out of your seat.

Yes, it’s certainly very useful. Saves time not having to get up

You could probably tighten up your lateral adjustment on that some. 😀

Apparently bush hog and dirt dog are both making that rollover design now although they seem to be a light duty version.
They have to have extra reinforcements to keep them from bending up.
Personally I'd rather have the one made back in the forties, I know how solid those things are and how much those suckers weigh.
Go online and look up rollover box blade.

Thanks for putting this together - wouldn't a newer design be better, ripping and scraping in one pass?

You're welcome. And yes, a new design would probably be better, but for the moment, this is what I have available.

Not necessarily the new ones are light weight and you have to get off and adjust each ripper by hand
