Rock'n'roll racing changed my life. One day when I was a kid I was playing that game when my older sister's cool, bully boyfriend came to my house. He looked at me almost with compassion and said: do you know what song is this, my little nerd? And I said no and blushed. Some days later he brought me his vinyl of Paranoid: it blew my mind. I'm a musician today, always thought that I would never have been if it wasn't for that game and that bastard in a leather jacket.

Biker Mice from Mars certainly deserves to be in top 5. It's my most played game this summer, and I don't even know anything about the source cartoon. Lots of fun, great music, awesome gameplay
Top Gear and Lamborghinni American Challenge are probably the ones I've played the most, the later one being probably the only Titus software game I can remember to have enjoyed in life. Also, a fun fact: Here in Brasil, the Nigel Mansell World championship Racing received a romhack that got itself more popular than the original game, and all it did was switch Mansell for Senna, alongside renault's car body paint to Mclaren's. Seems people just could not afford to have Senna on Mega Drive and not on the SNES. lol
I absolutely loved Street Racer back in my SNES days, I think I probably played it more than Mario Kart although Mario Kart definitely holds up better today.
I’ve played sooo much Test drive II and still loves that game. Super Mario kart goes as #1 without question. A bunch of players batteling it out , race upon race , a friday night in the early teens , was good times.

Fantastic video, Mr. OSG! I am glad you stuck with Stunt Race FX - superb, once you get used to it...! Your top 2 matches my top 2, as well: F-Zero - 2nd, Super Mario Kart - 1st. I love racing in the track called "Silence" in F-Zero, with all its 90-degree corners...! As for Super Mario Kart, I took, literally, TEN YEARS(!), to get past Donut Plains 3, the first track, in the Special Cup, in 100cc mode... When I FINALLY got the hang of it, that was the key to me winning the championship, and therefore, COMPLETING THE GAME...! By jingo, those end credits were worth the wait...! Now, I regularly win the Super Mario Kart 100cc Special Cup/complete the game/watch the end credits, for the fun of it...! I've EVEN won the 150cc Special Cup, in that game, ELEVEN TIMES...! The latter being the TRUE, HARDEST MARIO KART CHAMPIONSHIP, OF ALL TIME...!!! 200cc mode in Mario Kart 8, on the Wii U DLC/8 Deluxe, on the Switch, may be a HIGHER number, but it is NOT as hard as the 150cc Special Cup on the SNES/Super NES/Super Famicom... In fact, because games are so DERPED, nowadays (my way of saying "made easier, with CLEAR CPU handicaps"), I have seen that MARIO KART 8/8 DELUXE CPU KARTS/BIKES/TRIKES SLOW DOWN, AS THEY APPROACH THE FINISH LINE, IN THE FINAL LAP... EVEN IN THE DAMNED 200CC MODE...! #Annoying. ⚡🎮🏎🏁1️⃣🗣👊😎😁🌈💖
I was never into consoles in the 16-bit era, I was into computers, so my access to their games was very limited till the day of youtube. I didn't know there were 20 racing games on the SNES. All the retro channels which talk about them never mention anything other than Mario, F-Zero and perhaps one more. Thanks for the video.
I used to play Bike Mice from Mars for days back then. Finished it on all difficulties including the locked ones with Vinnie (the slowest dude). That required some skill with all the super abilities and boosts. Man I don't regret spending so much time on this game at all.
I dunno about Mario Kart being #1. F-Zero is one of the best 'pick up and play' racing games on the SNES. It's speed, tight control and the difficulty ramp are all top notch. I find myself playing this more often than almost any other racer I own. But hey, I do enjoy a MK race every now and then.
Great video buddy as always. Never got to play much on the SNES not sure why but something about Nintendo always made me think it was more for kids, yeah i know that's not the case now ofc. Wow, ive never seen Chase HQ 2 before on the SNES.. interesting version! Looks a bit funny though, like a kid at the steering wheel hehe, like a kid is driving the car.
Uniracers should be in first place. I played it for hundreds of hours back in the day. It is the number one game when it comes to racing against your friend with split screen. I played all of those other games too, uniracers beats them all.
it is good but i suppose it depends on what kind of Racing game you like best. Im more of a car racing game person. TBH Uniracers is actually that good it could pass as a 5th gen console game
no surprises, good list. my favourites are offroad, topgear2, and maybe testdrive2 but it doesn't feel like testdrive... dont know why :) you could do a 8bit&16bit top10 video which would summarize this serie!

It is really good, like i said in the video i played it for a while when recording the 35 secs of footage... and then have been back a few times after too
@@oldstylegaming understandable, that was made back when Konami treated their games with quality and respected brands, rather than ship them out for a quick buck.
The main problem I have with Street Racer is that you can't see any of the f'n icons and stuff on the track, so, genuinely, I would rather they'd just left the out for the most part and stuck with just the core racing and physical attacking. If they could remove most of the pickup texture junk on the track and just have a few really easy to see boxes or whatever, it would probably transform into one of the best racers on SNES--but that's just a "what could have been" and nothing else. I kinda wish someone would hack the game now with a bunch of tracks that were cleared of most of the pickup crap on the track....
I think the problem you might have with the SNES version of Micro Machines 2 is that it has less screen space to show the track, so at times you just don't get enough of an indication of an upcoming turn or whatever to react properly. What would have really helped here would have been a smarter camera that constantly adjusted and moved to the position that showed more of the track ahead of the car depending on what direction it was facing. I kinda wish someone would hack that into the game now....
Power Drive should definitely be on here, I rank it the 12th best racing game for the console...and I prefer GP-1 over GP-1 Part II but neither are above average.
Personally I’d put Top Gear as my #1 and Rock n Roll Racing as my # 2 Mario kart and f zero were great but I never clocked as many hours on them as I did on Top Gear or Rock n Roll Racing. It wasn’t till the the N64 that I really liked mario kart and GameCube that I fell in love with F Zero
Considering the SNES had hardware scaling, I always wondered what a port of OUTRUN might have looked like in a hypothetical situation where Sega ported themselves or licensed out the rights to a company like Atari/Tengen to put OUTRUN on Super Nintendo. It would probably have looked a lot like TOP GEAR or LAMBORGHINI: AMERICAN CHALLENGE, fast enough to be called "OUTRUN" but not nearly as densely populated with scaling sprites compared to the arcade due to technical limitations of the SNES compared to the arcade Super Scaler hardware. Even though I had a SNES as well as a Genesis, I generally stuck to playing racing games on Genesis, even without hardware scaling, due to the arcade racing pedigree of Sega. I know it's unfair, and I know I was missing out on a lot, but when I was a teenager, I felt like the Mode 7 that games like Super Mario Kart and F-Zero used made the sprites look like they were racing on one of those kid's play rugs with the roads printed on it.
@@nattila7713 I thought the SNES had hardware scaling... if it didn't, it at least seemed to be easier to implement cartridge-based software scaling compared to Genesis.
@@SteveBrandon genesis had a much stronger cpu so soft scaling would have been easier on sega but I dont think anything really used it. I dont even know if they (snes or genesis) could resize sprites with an easy value/property change like the c64 could.
@@nattila7713 I wish I had Genesis OUTRUN even if I know it wasn't true scaling. Of course, today I can just play arcade-perfect OUTRUN (complete with the undisguised Testarossa) as a bonus on the OUTRUN 2 XBox disk but, back in the 1990s, all I had was the Master System version (good for SMS but not as good as Genesis).
Played biker mice for over an hour... does that mean you played the previous games for less? Top gear 3000 is my personal fave because I just love how the tracks and cpus feel on hard, plus the upgrades. It really lasts IMO. Fzero is fun but once you get decent the stupid levels of rubber banding dribes me nuts
In my view, list is missing the likes of Human Grand Prix (1->4), a.k.a. F1 Pole Position(1->2 only) in Europe. The series was some form of precursor to Gran Turismo for me: tons of settings on the cars. Those games looked somewhat austere (especially the 1st one), but the gameplay was great.
3:13 also it runs at a lower resolution than the Mega Drive, 256 width instead of 320, so the screen is stretched and a lot is cut off. Also, as they are PAL region developed games, like the Mega Drive version, it's better to play all the Micro Machines games in PAL 50Hz, as in NTSC they run too fast
Really hate top gear 1 for it's forced Computer to play with you , I've noticed when I 1st played it that , the CPU really has it out for you , if you try and get away it will rubber band hard , and test you , it will gain and be on your ass quick and funny enough, if you start to fall behind , it will too start failing badly , I always found it insulting, you and the CPU are rivals and friends I guess , could you imagine if there was an option where you can turn it off , 1 player full screen , damn, that would be awesome.
Super Mario Kart isn't only the best racing game on the Snes it's hands down the BEST Snes game & also the greatest Mario Kart game. I was an utter beast at it!
I think the western SNES line up of racing games is not super deep outside of the 10 to 15 games know by everyone (the ones by Nintendo, Top Gear, Micro Machines, R&R Racing, Street Racer, Biking Mars from Mars and Off Road), definitely the Mega Drive line up is better, however there are surprisingly many Japan only racing games for the Super Famicom that are worth cheking out and elevate the line up of the console quite a bit.
there was a top down f1 game i played back in the day on snes. had funky portraits of the real f1 drivers. i distinctly remember the hilarious one of schumacher. cant remember the name but it was quite good despite the top down view. and none of that ugly mode 7 shit.
Looking... looking... looking... and I don't see Super Off-Road: The Baja on here. You really think those top down Micro Machine racers where it's ridiculously easy to fall off the track are better?
Why isnt F1 pole position 1 or pole position 2 on this list? They are the best F1 games on snes, much better than nigel mansells championship, more options, randon weather, more realistic damage models and can get random car issues, almost simulator level on the car settings. I found them to be far better than the F1 games mentioned in the list.

How did you capture your footage with Stunt Race FX? When I play it on the switch it runs at 25 fps-ish. It's hard to play.
Will have been in snes9x emulator
@@oldstylegaming oh okay. Got it. Thanks for the quick reply.
mode7 ftw
Top Gear for the win!
After the mario song in the intro ,there the song of a game that i played millions of time what was it,cant remenber the name?
there was a top down f1 game i played back in the day on snes. had funky portraits of the real f1 drivers. i distinctly remember the hilarious one of schumacher. cant remember the name but it was quite good despite the top down view. and none of that ugly mode 7 shit.

and I don't see Super Off-Road: The Baja on here. You really think those top down Micro Machine racers where it's ridiculously easy to fall off the track are better?
Rock and roll racing and mario kart should be top 2
Why isnt F1 pole position 1 or pole position 2 on this list? They are the best F1 games on snes, much better than nigel mansells championship, more options, randon weather, more realistic damage models and can get random car issues, almost simulator level on the car settings. I found them to be far better than the F1 games mentioned in the list.
Can i know.....i think i have see game like nigel mansell's world championship racing but i don't know what's the game😭😭😭😭can anyone tell me
One hint: learn to use brake before you take a turn. BRAKE. B R A K E. B-R-A-K-E.
well actualy Rock n´ roll racing is my best racing game ever.... and second bicker mice from mars, maybe just cuss i like isometric view... but...
Why is the SNES version of Off Road not as good as the other versions?
Doesn't handle as good .. simple as that
Faltó Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing :(
Jimmy Swayze.
😂mario kart lol
So Sega was years ahead if someone think mario kart is the best that snes could offer (which is obviously wasn’t).
Which racing game was better than mario kart then on the snes?
Why do you insist in these dulls Super Off Road and Micro Machines?!
What does that even mean mate
Mario kart has not aged well. Flickering background. Horrible handling...f zero has bad flickering too. Top gear however has aged well. Should be 1
Top gear 3000 shpuld be top 3
All lists are subjective but one thing is for sure it's a great game
