It reminds me historical event about GROM. When Americans once asked for miliatry support from Poland from Polish Defense ministry he answered it will last about 2 weeks to organise. We need to organise military equipment, gather all soldiers all the logistics etc. In this moment general Petelicki ( commander of GROM) come in to polish Defense Ministry and said Sir maybe we can help? Polish Defense Ministry ask him how long it will take you to organize unit to help American ? Petelicki answered back - one hour. GROM during this time was under Ministry of Interior and Administration and even polilsh Defense Ministry had no idea that such a unit existed.
All that’s missing from the GROM unit is the whistling of the feathers as they massacre all their enemies. If you know you know. Sabaton made a great song about this.
Nie obsrajcie sie w tych porownaniach, dzieciaczki. Husaria to byla kawaleria, ktora wjezdzala na pelnej k. i rozbijala w pyl. Grom to jednostka specjalna, ktora powinna byc niewidzialna w swoim dzialaniu.

The fact that there is a debate about which of this units is 'better' reminds me of my childhood, when kids would brag that their own older brother was stronger than the other's older brother.
True! I think people who never entered military service tend to drive these silly conversations [the most]. Intense online exploration of a world they regret not joining?

What KSK and GROM def. makes unique are their Commando Medic squads. Those are basically heavy armed field surgeons equipped with a mobile "operating room". Especially the KSK got a heavy focus on that.

I read somewhere that when the allied Tier 1 guys (it was either 22SAS or a Delta Squadron) met the Polish guys from GROM, they were really blown away at the size of them. They were all huge. Really tall and really shredded.
there are different people there, it was probably in the early 1990s. But the requirements for people there are ruthless, the elite have to maintain a high intellectual and physical level.
Yes, there was a joint assault on a stronghold and when they were planning it the NATO soldiers observed that the plane was going to be too low for their parachutes to open in time and the polish soldiers replied, oh... We're using parachutes
The video of JTF2 bringing terrorists back for accountability was broadcasted on the US media as being “American”. Thanks for pointing this out, as most don’t know that we work constantly with our neighbours to the south, and are always mistaken as Americans…even though it’s evident from the Canadian flag on the shoulders of our boys. Cheers!🇨🇦
What made that incident even more laughable; our boys were still outfitted with our force's standard forest greens, because our governments had decided to never stock any desert camo. (...this despite the Cold War having been over for over a decade already, AND, that the Middle East had been propelled to "world's top hot spot" for years already since the 1st Gulf War) Only fitting that it was the Toronto Star who initially reported the JTF2 mission as "American commandos". That leftist hate-rag is so damn toxic, I wouldn't even consider fit for lining my kitten's litter box!😛
@@joshodell6703 So true! I know that when traveling in Europe and elsewhere, everyone would confuse me with being American…so I solved that by adding a bunch of very visible CANADIAN FLAGS on my gear…the only problem I had afterwards…is that Americans would ask to buy them. As we are welcomed in the global community, and aren’t as controversial as our neighbours, many of them will use Canadian Flags if they are traveling in a country that isn’t welcoming to them. It’s definitely one of the benefits of being from our glorious, beautiful, land! I wish you and your loved ones a very warm and MERRY CHRISTMAS!🎄
in an odd way, it's rather comforting knowing that around the world there exists these best of the best ready to do the things that need to be done.....well,quietly, successfully.
One of my favorite facts about Canada's JTF2 is that the CIA had to ask them to stop killing terrorist leaders so fast because they were trying to gather intel 😂
No, they f'd up and are a bunch of amatuers, the propaganda tried to twist that fact. They got chewed up for destroying pertinent intel with overwhelming odds and American Tech. The footage you guys chose for GROM is actually a footage of JW AGAT - AGAT was formed out of disbanded military police special formation and now its role is comparable to American 75th rangers or British special forces support group
Yes, correct. We use stock footage of adjacent units when there isn't an abundance of it. Our SAS footage is Royal Marines footage, but it's badass nonetheless! Thanks for the comment.

You have to remember the history of American and Canadian special forces to understand how cooperation and recognition comes naturally to the two countries. The First Special Service Force (also known as The Devil's Brigade) which was formed in WW2 and comprised of soldiers from both countries is the birthplace of special forces for both their special forces. They still acknowledge their joint history with this unit annually and there is even a highway that goes from Lethbridge Alberta in Canada to Helena Montana in the US (where the unit trained) which is named after them. The unit's shoulder patch is pretty famous among North American special forces and consists of a red arrowhead with USA in white lettering at the tip and Canada in white lettering down the spine.
The American General had a special medal made for JTF2 and was recorded saying…if you want the job messed up call the Americans, but if you want it done correctly, efficiently, and intellectually the first time, you call in the Canadians. I know Hitler dreaded our troops the most, but also respected their exceptional skills and bravery…to the point where he even ordered his bombers to avoid destroying any of our WWI Memorial statues. Winston Churchill is also stated that his first pick of troops would be the Canadians. There are others, but I will end here. There is a long tradition in Canada, whereby, we highly respect and revere all our forces. It is also known for over a century, just how exceptional our military are! However, we also deeply respect other nations militaries, and know that we need one another in a hostile world! Cheers!🇨🇦

Funny how Canada's military is considered low tier due to low per capita members and low military spending, but their spec ops teams are some of the best in the world.
As a Canadian I have great pride in the personnel of our military, and a hell of a lot of disdain for the government structure around our soldiers. Its an incredible embarrassment the state that its been left in over the last 30 or so years. I am so glad that JTF2 gets recognition around the world.

They all serve the same foundational function. They all have access to superior resources and benefit largely from a joint task force more than general standing military entities. If a country uses the Tier system, than one tier isn’t necessarily better than the other . There are hard hitters , bigger and badder SOF and non SOF dudes from all walks of military life. My friend and police academy classmate spent 20+ years in the Marine Corps, he retired as a SgtMajor in 2021 and went straight into the police academy with me following his retirement . Well, the German thing is a bit complicated. A distinction is made between civilian and military operations. We have the GSG9, a very effective police unit, perhaps the best if you look at the annual international comparisons. Do you remember the liberation of the hijacked Mogadishu plane? That was the GSG 9. The KSK was built primarily for war scenarios - GSG9 was originally not designed for war scenarios but for civilian situations. The reason is correctly stated in the video.

Honestly, you should try to make a video about the special forces of secrative or less than ideal countries. Something like North Korea, China, or Iran
Alot of people misunderstand the “tier” categories… your tier doesn’t mean your level of training. It’s so you know what units get the most funding. No SOF unit is better than the other. They’re different and each is the best at what they’re tasked to do… also, you should’ve included the Night Stalkers in this video… they also operate with other units outside of the USSOCOM.
This Tier thing is an American verbiage that many other forces don't really use. Canada has JTF 2, the Brits have SAS, SBS, and most countries utilize similar units that have a broad spectrum of operational capability. Using a tiered system when the financial crunch only allows for a few special units is just not done. One can argue that the special forces in Britain, being backed by elite units like the Bootnecks and Paras, negates the need for redundancy in the UKSF community, and therefore tiered units. As for JTF2, well....they're just nuts! Crazy Canucks!!!
What makes me proud is that, all these units are part of a family tree that has the British LRDG at the top of it. The standards of all these SF's are exceptional and to be honest, a lot of them train and end up working together on operations which benefits all, the US and British seem to have worked together more than others. If I had to pick the best of the best, it would be E Squadron of the British SF's. If you have operators from the SAS and SBS massively big them up then they must be proper super special.
All tier 1 units are very, very good. Who's the best? Nobody knows, nobody knows what 95% of the missions these units are sent on are, nobody knows how complex each specific one is, only very rarely will the average person on the street know what the outcome of the mission is. So its an unanswerable question. Just be thankful that people like these exist.
Australians don't eat marmite, we eat vegemite. completely different taste.. Aust SAS is also SASR (R for Regiment). SASR also come under the umbrella of SOCOMD which includes 2 Commando. They are fundamentally divided into East Coast and West Coast. The CT element is fundamentally done out of East. SASR also go through 4 cycles, superficially deployed, CT, Work up, rest/recovery
I have a problem with Germanys KSK. You said their entire National Assembly has to okay all their missions. For something so secretive to be shared with that many people is scary to me. It takes just 1 member of government to have nefarious objectives-like a spy-to cause the mission to fail. Recently members of Germanys assembly WERE arrested for plotting a coup. For your special forces, you need the smallest group possible to be in the know.
Most of the Time, the legal grounds for the mission are given after the operation, for, but not limited too Mission Secrecy, but also the notoriously slow speed of the german Legal System

The British Army Regiment that boasts the most successful recruits into the SAS is the Paras, in particular from the Pathfinders Platoon. It's also interesting that there are a disproportionate number of Scotsmen in the SAS as well. As for the SBS, these mainly come from the Royal Marines, quite often from the Mountain Leaders, who are already an elite within an elite. Another interesting fact is that candidates for both the SAS and SBS take part in the unbelievably difficult selection process together in Brecon which has the most horrific weather in the Country. 🇬🇧✌️
British Special forces selection is not weeks long its 6 months long followed by a 2 year probation period. Selection involves Hills phase to weed out, Jungle phase to see who the best and most disciplined soldiers are(philosophy is the jungle is such a brutal environment if you can soldier there you can soldier anywhere), phase 3 Advanced skills etc, then phase 4 is escape and evasion.

@@charonboat6394 No nonsense. Tire 1 are units with the highest level of specialization, which allows them, in addition to typical specops, to rescue hostages in various conditions. GROM has it in its statute, Formoza is not authorized to carry out such tasks, but only to board/take over floating objects (of course, it practices simple things in terms of HR in extremis, but this is still far from operational readiness for such serious missions).
@@kozakibpd5014 formoza is indeed authorized to carry out hostage rescues, every unit is. It's not that any unit is forbidden from doing that, it's that some units are better trained for that. My dream job is the Australian infantry and than the SASR currently I’m 12 years old I hope I could be one of these tough soldiers and prove my parents that I’m strong although I was born 2 months early.😊
I'm confused about the Squadron Troops of the SAS Air, Boat, Mob.,MTN. Why does the SAS have Boat Troops when they have the Royal Navy Special Boat Service (SBS) to do maritime missions; are they the SAS Boat Troop and the SBS the same thing or are they separate units??
It's just that the sas are trained in boat and aquatic warfare so that there more variable in there mission sets. The sbs do the same water based stuff just a lot more of it and in a higher intensity way.
The footage of GROM in the video was actually a footage of diffrent unit from Poland - JW AGAT. AGAT is the youngest sof unit in Poland. Very high level but not on the same level as GROM.
Yeah 'Vegemite' is as Australian as a barbie out the backyard or the 360 backyard clothesline. Australia's elitist soldiers come under the abbreviation SOCOMD/A. We copied the American abbreviation but added the letter 'A'. The tier one forces that come under SOCOMD/A are 1/2 Commando and SASR. The equipment SOCOMD/A use are varied, but for interoperability purposes much is from/shared with the US. Australia, a small populated nation has a very impressive record when it comes to elite forces going all the way back to WW2 "Z Force". It was only at the start of the 1950's that we stood up SASR. In Vietnam the VC called our special forces "chicken stranglers", and their kill v loss ratio was just staggeringly effective. 1/2 Commando's main ROE are 'kick in the door' elite forces, but SASR are more structured for insertion behind enemy lines and long recon. If you'd ask most serving/former US SOCOM operators to give their opinions of our tier one operators it is always extremely impressive. The biggest difference arguably is SOCOMD/A lacks the 'force projection' capabilities of the US, and both France + the UK. France has an enormous military footprint in Africa and to the north of Australia.
Why isn't the Royal Navy's special forces unit, the Special Boat Service (SBS), regarded by many as even more elite than the SAS, mentioned? It too is a Tier 1 unit.

The British SAS selects from all branches of HM armed forces not just the army
The SAS and SBS run a joint special forces selection and take recruits from all armed forces.
@@dsumner1234 just to expand on this to avoid confusion...SAS, SBS and SRR take candidates from all services. SAS and SBS share the selection process. It's not like you do SF selection and then choose which path to take. You apply to a particular unit, it's just that you go through the same process apart from the SRR which have their own selection pipeline. Although very similar, it's quite different. Other parts of UKSF are different. SFSG is tri-service but you have to have passed an arduous course to qualify (AACC/P-Coy/Pre Para are the main ones not sure if pathfinder or special observers cadres count but they are both pretty nails units in their own right) so that pretty much limits it to members of 3CB, 16AA and RAF Rgt 2 (Para) Sqn. 18 Signal Regt and Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing which make up the rest of UKSF are exclusively recruited from the Royal Signals for 18SR, and the RAF and Army Air Corps for JSFAW.

Great breakdown of these brave and deadly units. Subscribed
There are good arguments made that there are only two countries with 2 real tier one units. US and UK and that’s delta and devgru and sas and sbs.
SBS came one a year before the SAS and Not Derived from long range desert group
Lol, your best pick so far was the name you chose for yourself.
Good video. Many informations for such secretive units
@@frozendragon during Putins War, I’ve certainly seen how slow it is about approving ANY new piece oMateriel sent to Ukraine. But I won’t complain because they’ve really stepped up while my US Congress is playing stupid election year games! Thanks for your reply,

How do you the fact about the Scots ? Have you just made that up
British Special forces selection is not weeks long its 6 months long followed by a 2 year probation period.
You omitted Polish FORMOZA and ALPHA units. Like any other country our specials, as we call them, have unique task assigned and to train for.

CAG and US SF also have dedicated dive teams etc, fyi - everyone likes to be able to do pretty much everything

Isn't DEVGRU also a tier one unit
Why isn't the Royal Navy's special forces unit, the Special Boat Service (SBS), regarded by many as even more elite than the SAS, mentioned? It too is a Tier 1 unit.
