- Ever wondered exactly how the Eurovision juries cast their votes? I know I have.
Karin Falck answered that question at the start of the voting in the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, Sweden. Appropriately enough, as the 1-12 points system that's been in use ever since was first used in that contest.
Grattis på födelsedagen Karin!
Imagine the controversy there would have been if they couldn't get in touch with one of the countries and it later turned out that the winner would have been different if they'd have voted!
Well, for instance there was a period were each juror voted 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,10,12 for the fav 10 songs which when added were then apportioned into the usual vote distribution.
It's how juries vote today, actually. Each jury is made up of 5 people, each of which votes for his 10 favorite songs in the usual 1-12 scale. The points are then added up, making up the whole jury's top-10 (in case of a tie between two songs, the jury members are asked to pick one of them).
Yes, they do to the best of my knowledge.
I'll have to check that out.
Hm, where have you heard this? Because Jonathan confirmed to me that when his father was in the Belgian jury in 1993, this was how they cast their votes.
Only 5? Yikes, must be tough to get on one.
Yes, and moreover, they must be comprised by music professionals, so unless we get into the music industry somehow, I don't ever see us in there... :-(
No, it's not exactly that. There have in fact been variations on how the jurors voted & how that was converted into 1-12 over the years.
Who comes melodifestivalen 2020 😍
Cool, I never knew that! Do they use the same procedure to this day, though?
Interesting. Do you know when this period was?
