A decent tip when spreading is to stop the spreader turn 90 turn it on make your steps turn off turn 90 then turn on. The inside of the turn doesnt spread as wide and cause burning spots on your turns. Now obviously this isnt the hottest fert so it shoudlnt matter, but if your using a hotter fert it definitely can burn on the turns. I know from personal experience and my bosses where really not happy that i got lazy.
Okay so now that I’ve watched your channel for about a month. I’ve started watching several in a row. It’s very uncommon of me. So it’s safe to say I’ve become a fan. Keep it uploaded and I’ll keep watching. By the way don’t actually know your background but you editing skills are fantastic.
Hi Steven. Glad the content is interesting enough to keep you watching. Thanks for the kind words about the edit. I’ve been working hard over the past year to improve the quality of the content. UA-cam is becoming more and more competitive so have to do all I can to stand out a bit. Really appreciate you watching.
I'm pretty happy with the N-EXT Microgreene 0-0-2 product. It should correct micros with the exception of your boron and calcium and also has humic acid and kelp which never hurts. It seems pricey but 5 gallons @ 150 bucks will do about 10 apps on a lawn under 10k sq ft. There are plenty of box store options to get calcium up. Bone meal will help with calcium and your phos. There are also plenty of gysum products out there that do not raise or lower ph and add calcium. You can actually use borax (yep the stuff you add to your washer) to help with the boron. It only takes a few teaspoons per 1000 but if using a sprayer i would probably mix it with water first shake real good and strain it before adding so you don't clog your sprayer. Us lawn nuts can benefit from using the rest of the borax in the washing machine after a hard day of topdressing... LOL. ph is perfect and that can never be permanently corrected so that's great! I can't believe that everything in the soil test is lacking and yet the bermuda still looks pretty.. pretty.. pretty... goood.
Thanks for the detailed comment Matt. Like you, I'm impressed at how the lawn is looking despite the soil test results. Can you imagine once we correct all of them? It will be awesome. Great tip on the borax. I'll look into it. Overall I'm really happy with how his lawn is progressing.
I'm pretty much following the same strategy. I was low across the board on NPK and micros. I'm doing 2 starter fert applications per year, the rest I'm using a 28-3-10. I'll do that for this season and next. At the star of 3rd season I'll retest to make sure I don't overshoot Phosphorus. Also apply liquid micros and Humic products.
@@RonHenryallyn hayne in one of his videos said at Trugreen they used to say starter fert fixes all problems 😆 I tend to agree. Nice series to watch, have to say I am surprised though at how little, or actually not a single word, you mention the importance of regular watering is needed on a healthy lawn. Especially shortly after fertilising!
Thanks for the comment Daniel. Bermuda doesn't really need that much water. 1 - 1.5" per week is all that's required for this type of grass. We've been getting quite a bit of rain in Georgia, so there really hasn't been a lot of need to water. I'll release a video on watering in the upcoming weeks though.
Is it a must to have a reel mower to get those results? I have a zero turn that I currently use and don't see a reel mower being in my budget. Awesome content by the way.
Hi Larry. For a Bermuda, yes. Bermuda really like being cut between .5 and 1.5" Even if you can get that low with a zero turn (which I don't believe you can), the way a reel mower cuts the grass is healthier for it. It's the difference between cutting the grass with a pair of scissors vs. hacking at it with a sharp knife. All things being equal the scissors is going to do a better job cutting the grass consistently with less chance for tearing. You can pick up a pre-owned Tru Cut (like Alex's) for well under $1000. Regular mowing at the correct height with the correct equipment is the single most important factor for having a great looking lawn. What are you currently mowing your grass with and how frequently?
How many pounds per 1,000 square feet of granular fertilizer were spread here? Just got back my soil test results. I need 14-14-14 to correct my 4k sq ft of bermuda lawn. Need to get application rate right.
Going to pickup Empro 15-15-15 and will check the application rate printed on the bag then. Will be using with my Scott's edge guard deluxe which is ubiquitous on most fertilizer products.
Nice jerpify. I imagine the bag should have calibration settings for the Scotts. If it doesn’t, let me know and I’ll see about getting a conversion chart.
Frazzle in some way they kind of do. When you get your soil test results, MySoil includes recommendations and links to products that you can use to fix the issues in the results. They make it super easy for the DIY home lawn care enthusiast.
I really enjoyed the video, great 👍 series. I’m waiting on my soil test results as well. I’m a bit confused, I’ve read that summer isn’t the best time to put down fertilizers, as you normally don’t want to “push for growth” during summer. Could adding nutrients to the lawn now be considered pushing for growth?
Hi Mr Big Shot. I apply nitrogen throughout the entire growing season but to a lesser extent during the peak of summer. I use PGRs to limit top growth in the lawn. Adding micronutrients like iron, shouldn't adversely affect the lawn during summer months. It's the nitrogen that you need to watch. Hope this helps.
Well said Jack. I think it's probably good advice for people that mow their lawns once every 2 weeks or right before the HOA sends them a letter. It's not good advice for people serious about having the best looking lawn possible. You want to feed your lawn when it's actively growing. Use PGRs to cut down on mowing frequency requirements and for better color. When your lawn is actively growing, it needs food. 👍😎
Ron Henry Thanks! Very helpful, I ended up needing to increase the pH as well as the nutrients, it’s been a week since I applied Lime and 10-10-10 fertilizer and my lawn is back up and greener. I also put down Milorganite and the lawn looks amazing 👍
Enjoying series. At the very end, I heard you say river sand. Are you going to screen that sand? Last year I used river sand on my lawn and it was a rough consistency of sand and very small pebbles/grains. I wondered if the small pebbles contributed to some hots spots. Get'em Alex. It's looking good!
Hi The Lawn Apprentice. I didn't screen it when applied to my lawn. The place I get it from has pretty good consistency. Screening it will save you some some time on the backend of simply using a leveling rake. I have a video coming out on that soon. Next week since all the videos slots this week are already spoken for. If you'd like a sneak peek: ua-cam.com/video/CybfhkRmxIA/v-deo.html 👍😎

Should I get an Flowzone or Milwaukee sprayer? I already have Milwaukee batteries. I been seeing good reviews on both but yours seems to spray well. What do you suggest?
Hi Lincoln. I've not used either of those sprayers so I can't say for sure. If you already have batteries for the Milwaukee, that's a compelling reason to use that one. That said, I only have 1 battery for my Chapin and it's been working very well so far. amzn.to/2IxJxlk I really like mine, but I wouldn't say to get rid of the one you have for this one if you're happy with it. One advantage to the Chapin is there are lots of options for booms and tips since it's a pretty common sprayer. I think it represents pretty good value for money. Hope this helps.
I have a tow behind sprayer and put an entire jug in 30 gallons, and just went over it twice. So far I’ve used 2 1/2 gallons of rgs, 2 1/2 of Air8, 750 pounds of lime, 200 pounds of carbon, and the 5 gallons of rgs. I can already see the difference in my clay soil. It was a literal cow pasture when we built the house. Its been rough but its dark green and thickening up.
If you want to hear some news i nerd’d out on... I had pulled about forty 4” plugs in my lawn to help with my bare spots. I threw the old plugs away. They were bare clay so out they go. I’m filling the spot i took the plug from with sand and peat. Right now theres water in the plugs with humic floating in them. This made me excited. Lol. That means the carbon is getting into the subsurface as well, i hope.
Thank you very much Mr Henry. I appreciate your help along the way. Your videos have definitely helped along the way. After watching your top dressing video i i can admit i need to rent some equipment to just get it knocked out. After doing some research i can rent a walk behind loader for a single Saturday and keep it till Monday vs the whole weekend which is significantly more for just one day. Sunday is a day off here so they won’t come pick up the machine. Again, thanks for the input and thanks for the videos. They really are helping people.

Hi Jerpify. Which product are you using? There should be a rate on the bag that we can use as a guide. Which spreader do you have?
Going to pickup Empro 15-15-15 and will check the application rate printed on the bag then. Will be using with my Scott's edge guard deluxe which is ubiquitous on most fertilizer products.
Nice jerpify. I imagine the bag should have calibration settings for the Scotts. If it doesn’t, let me know and I’ll see about getting a conversion chart.
It’s official. My favorite channel!
Thanks so much K9. That's really nice of you to say. I appreciate you choosing to watch the content. Let me know if I can help with anything.
Imagine if the company that testa the soil teams up with a company that produces a bag with the percentages of what you're results require...
Frazzle in some way they kind of do. When you get your soil test results, MySoil includes recommendations and links to products that you can use to fix the issues in the results. They make it super easy for the DIY home lawn care enthusiast.
Ron, I did you all weigh the amount of fertilizer you were throwing down?
It all depends on the grass type. Warm season vs. Cool season.
Definitely an option S. That sounds like a pretty good blend since you're also incorporating some Milo.
I love watching this series because it reminds me of how I was 3 years ago. You should have Alex talk about what he's learning and hoping for!
Great comment AmandanLeeLoo. It's something I'll ask him and see if it's something he's interested in doing. 😎👍
*should do what (fertilize, pre-green, etc.)?
Heya Gaylord. It depends on what you're starting with. If you haven't yet, let's get a soil test done. www.mysoiltesting.com/shop?aff=11 While you're waiting for that to come in, we can start to get the weeds under control. Great job! can't wait to see the results in the coming weeks!
You and me both William! Really looking forward to seeing how the lawn turns out. He's putting in the work!
Great work helping out your neighbor I been following along for a while now. Keep up the great content!
Awesome Raul! Thank you so much. Alex is doing all the hard work. I'm just offering suggestions. It really comes down to regular mowing.
@@RonHenry true and those suggestions are key when someone is trying to get on track.🤙
That's the goal Raul. Trying to help others see what's possible by documenting the process.
You mentioned Burford. Are you in Georgia? :O
Yep! Just north of Buford. Are you in GA as well?
very cool...look forward to seeing his fall (post season) soil test results to see the gains over these next couple months.
You and me both Frankie. The amendments should move the lawn in the right direction. Let's hope! 😎
☀️Great video! Yes, Alex was very careful pouring the fert in the hopper, great job! 👍 Bring on the rain!
Agreed Sunny Bermuda! He did a great job. I'm looking forward to seeing how the lawn turns out.
I’m looking forward to the results...I’m going to to do another soil test this fall after doing my first this past January to see how my lawn program faired this season.
Great Video Ron 😷👍🏽
Thanks Wize Guy. We'll test again in a few months and see how the amendments work. The lawn is already looking really good. It'll look even that much better once the soil is better shape. That's the goal. 👍😎
What kind of software are you using to edit your videos?
Hi Rick Johnson. I use Final Cut Pro X
Love the music! Great content and info. Checked back at some older videos and loved that info as well! Maybe one day we will get some Ron Henry fitness videos and t-shirts 👍
You guys actually want t-shirts? I don't know about fitness videos. Lot's of people more qualified than me have that one well-covered. :-)
@@RonHenry Thanks!
@@lincolnproject8013 no problem! Glad to help.
I just put down 5 gallons of Humic12 on an acre. lol
Good lord. I bet that was a workout Adam. :-) Nice work
I have a tow behind sprayer and put an entire jug in 30 gallons, and just went over it twice.
Very cool Adam. You’re really making a lot of changes to your lawn. A lot of work but it’ll be worth it. Nice work.
Hey I'm from Mableton (with a Bermuda yard). I love the channel and appreciate your tips. It's great to follow a fellow Atlantan in working on the yard. Thanks for all you do buddy!
Awesome! Thank you Jesse. Georgia is a great area for growing warm season grass. Thanks for following the content. I really appreciate it.
I gotta get one of those soil kits! Looking forward to the results from this application. Love watching this series!
Thanks so much Jason. Glad that you're enjoying the series. The goal is to show a process that pretty much anyone can follow to get good results. Let me know if I can help with anything. 👍😎
Ron - new subscriber here. May I ask, are these products specifically designed for warm season grass? I live in NJ, and I have KBG. Thank You Sir.
Hi Mills. Thanks so much for subscribing. I appreciate the support. The products shown in this series can be used on cool season grass as well without issue. Based on your soil test results, we'll be able to determine which product(s) are the best fit for what's going on in your soil. KBG is a really nice grass. It can look amazing once it's properly fed. If you need a soil test, I like the kit from MySoil: www.mysoiltesting.com/shop?aff=11 Let me know if I can help with anything else and Welcome! 👍😎
Ron Henry Ok thank you. I’ll give them a tried. 👍
Nice Mills. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
Ron Henry - will do! Thank You 🙏🏻
👍😎
Ron.... has Alex moved up in the game and got his own sprayer and spreader? If not, I think it’s time ... he has the skillzzzz ... a guy can’t just keep borrowing his neighbors gear... even if he is “The Ron Henry”....Lol
Great videos...thanks
Heya Steve. He's still using mine which is cool with me. Lawn equipment takes up space so with me right next door, it's easy enough to simply borrow mine. I don't know about being "The Ron Henry". I just spend entirely too much time in my lawn. 👍😎
I thinks it’s cool that you are helping your neighbor .... I joke about people having their own stuff but I do know it’s expensive.
Keep up the good work!!!!
Yeah Steve. I don't mind at all. This stuff is expensive and take up space so I totally get not having every tool under the sun if you can help it. I don't even own a full size shovel. I borrowed from a friend to top dress. 😎
