    Speaker Stand: amzn.to/3v3erw0
    I mention hype in the title on these, in this case they certainly lived up to it, the 1723 THX monitors are a really good speaker for the home theater and 2 channel listening. It's a larger monitor so just keep that in mind as far as stands go.

    People need to realize, you can't use subs as stands for these or any monitor UNLESS, the subs work in the same room location as the main speakers do, highly unlikely. Also, Arendal says, from their mouth, thay are predominantly a 2 channel speaker company and these speakers can also be used for home theatre. This issue sometimes causes people to pass over speakers thinking they are not as good for one purpose as another. Thank you for your review.

    I have the 1723 towers just listening to rock music and they sound fabulous. They are built like tanks, weighing 111 lbs each. Overbuilt really but I appreciate the quality. Probably one of the reasons they have a 10 year warranty. Soundstage, dynamics and imaging are excellent and they can play loud without strain. They give a 60 day buy and try in the US and you can return free of charge. If you are interested I suggest giving them a try.

    Hi Matt. Great review!! I owned monitor audio silver 300 before buying the 1723s towers and must say it is a MUCH bigger step than I imagined. The imaging, bass, dynamics, midrange, build quality..... just all of it is top notch. Im really happy with them and think (especially in the eu) they are as good or better than speaket costing twice as much... i use the for home theater and music btw. Move the towers in a diff position to get the best soundstage depth for 2 channel and center them around the tv for movie.

      @MattCoykendall1 ...The biggest take away.. is the 92 db sensitivity.
      Dynamic performance and scale is amazing even for 2ch HiFi.

    Matt, fine job! I enjoy your fair and objective reviews. I use 2 channel systems. I only use a sub for one 2 channel system. I’m a “gear head” and have far too much stuff..I have a combo of vintage McIntosh, Sansui, Pioneer, modern source pieces and vintage ADS and Mofi speakers.

    • @MattCoykendall1

      Which do you spend more time with these days, the vintage or modern gear?

    • @stevezeidman7224

      @@MattCoykendall1 Well, I use all vintage pre and post amplification and modern dacs like Geshelli J2 with Sparkos update and Ladder Schumann. For TV I use modern small Klipsch bookshelves. For music I alternate daily between vintage ADS, and modern Mofi Sourcepoint 8 (with sub). So a long winded way to say both.

    I have the polk lsim series of speakers using them for both music and home cinema do you think the arendals are a step up or a step side ways in comparison to the polks because im thinking of replacing the polks but not going to if the arendals aren't a big enough step forward interested to know what you think thanks in advance.

    Hi Matt, I am looking at getting these speakers, but am worried about how stable they are on speaker stands. Do you think they were stable enough ?

  • @chrislukowski1825
    @chrislukowski1825 4 місяці тому

    Thanks for all the detail! How far away from the rear & side walls do you feel they should be? Also with your toe-in would you say that 50% between forward firing and pointing directly at the center seat is where you landed?

    • @jeroenvanwesemael8556
      @jeroenvanwesemael8556 4 місяці тому +1

      I only toe in slightly with the tower s, they have very good off axis so not a lot of toe in is needed and that way you keep a nice broad soundstage. They are not to sensitive for closer to the Wall placements, not worse than other speakers. I would always want to move your speakers more into the room for best sounstage width and depth and to get your speakers to really dissappear, this is most important for 2 channel stereo listening. I have my towers on felt patches so I can slide them into place for a stereo session. If you have carpets you can use disks to slide them. My movie set up is closer to the wall (as you use so much speakers the placement is not that finiky).

    These are designed for home theater. I am looking for music listening, not theater.

    • @jeroenvanwesemael8556
      @jeroenvanwesemael8556 4 місяці тому +1

      Hi, this is a common misconception. Their actually designed for both and perform well for both. I owned many 2 channel systems based on q acoustics, monitor audio and other brands) and now rock the 1723s towers for 2 channel listening and can honoustly say they are fantastic. They give me great imaging, depth, tonality and bass. You will nog find this price to performance ratio with any of the traditional big brands. I was really happy with my monitor audios. But these are just a lot better and cheaper.

      Many reviewers actually prefer the 1723 S monitors. They are 2 hairs cheaper but offer pretty much the same sound quality, sans the low end extension. I wouldn't use any of them without a subwoofer so the extension is moot. I struggled alot when deciding which to buy, I went with a split decision using the 1723 S monitors in rear while the front is done by the full sized brother 1723 THX monitor. I can't fathom how loud these can play... Nor can I fathom when I would EVER NEED IT unless I move into a space with a massive Home Theater space.
      I can stand 100dB for a few seconds, I listen normally at 70-75dB at listener position. Maybe a song or two at 80-85dB just to vacate the head completely... and both speaker choices can do that task with ease, at idle basically. The 1723 S might need a few more watts to do it right compared to 1723 monitor but it's nearly neglible. I've powered them with a 100W per channel class A/B amp and I'm currently evaluating a 55W per channel class D and it does the job too. The idle cost of A/B is 50 times higher than class D.

    I viewed a few of your equipment reviews in the past few months and I found you seldom can or give critical reviews of any of the products you reviewed, and most instances give raving reviews. My suggestion be more critical, e.g. This equipment may not be suitable for or sound good in certain situations and then give examples. Your viewers will thank you for it.

      I actually have multiple reviews over the past couple months that simply didn’t measure up to the performance I would expect and I made it very clear in the video, a particular streamer as well as powered speaker. This speaker is good, plain as that, thanks for watching, I do appreciate it.
