The Scooby Doo movie of my childhood,I totally had a crush on Velma as a kid.
I had one both on her and Daphne 😉
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island was my childhood Scooby-Doo film.
@Planet Offkey that’s a good one. I give it to Daphne…from this movie. But Velma is close 😉
I still do
For me it was Daphne. She was so fine 😭
We were robbed of Velma's legendary rendition of 'I love you baby'
"She does know those bloody skulls are non alcoholic?".
We were robbed of Velma being a confirmed lesbian 🏳️🌈
More than once actually
@@Cdr2002 wait when
@@KevinLuper99 original plans for the movie and later plans for Mystery Incorporated (Hot Dog Water is not “just a friend” lol)
Yeah she isn't if you look it up the two are officially married!
Regardless of the movie being good or bad, I find that the cast chosen to play the main characters are very good choices. So good in fact that Matthew Lillard went on to become Shaggy's current voice actor.
Absolutely 💯 every single of them is perfect at portraying their cartoon counterpart. The weakest link is the god awful CGI Scooby! Freddie Prinze was amazing as Fred and of course you could NOT cast a better Shaggy.
@@sealife12 With Shaggy, this definitely evolved positively as Matthew Lillard is now the main voice actor for the animation.
one thing i love about the film, is that Linda Cardellini who's playing Velma, and one of the best parts of the film. because she committed to it was that she was losing weight. maybe for a film role afterwards, or because she got the gig on ER a year after this. or just for her. she looks stunning always. but they filmed the film out of order, so from scene to scene her face changes quite a lot
i've got a soft spot for this film, Matthew Lillard is doing an awesome job as Shaggy
would love to see the R version though
Hollywood always does that. They cast one of the sexiest women in hollywood to play Velma. They put glasses on her, and suddenly shes dorky? Hollywood execs think where all stupid, and think that we don't know that Clark Kent is actually Superman.
@@joeybaseball7352 Linda Cardellini worked for me though, but I know what you mean... usually.
The thing that bugged me the older I got was the "Velma is a dork" stuff. The true problem is the character hasn't had a major outfit design change since her inception in the 1960's. I remember seeing old footage of a Beatles concert and, yeah, there ARE girls that dressed like that back then. The sweater and miniskirt combo and the Pageboy haircut. It really translate to "frumpy" instead of mod out of historical context. Her personality and being the smart one is what makes her the "nerd" of the group. And then What's New Scooby-Doo and to some extent Mystery Incorperated they somehow decided to oddly give her body image issues. Like any time they'd have her in something more revealing for a disguise she'd protest it and get extremely embarrassed and annoyed by it.
@@MicahMicahel Linda Cardellini is one of the most gorgeous actresses working in Hollywood. And the put glasses on her, and suddenly she's unattractive? That's the problem with Hollyweird.
@@joeybaseball7352 Velma was geeky but her face wasn'tt unattractive. Look at her features. they didn't give her a large nose or anything other than a bad haircut. She has breasts. she wasn't not a woman. I know what you mean but I think this is an exception. We got a hot Velma.
I had a friend that was literally obsessed with this movie when it came out. It was the sole thing she wanted to do when visiting her house, it was all she wanted to talk about, and once the movie was over, she'd just excitedly ask to watch it, again. After five watches, I tried to suggest some other activities, but I think we ended up watching the movie several more times.
Despite that, I really did like it. The CGI, though clunky for today, still has some wonderful models, and I don't think I knew most of the background information. We definitely didn't have any special features to watch- I believe we were watching on VHS.
The story makes a lot more sense from the uncut version, I can say that.
@@SatanenPerkele I don't believe I went back.
The odd thing I noticed was for no reason Velma's turtleneck sweater suddenly changes to a plunging v-neck version for one long segment (when their spirits switch bodies) without any explanation, which felt like a scene or two was missing.
There was a cut non-romantic kiss scene between Velma and Daphne believe it or not!
Even watching this in 2002, I could tell that there was awkward cuts & missing scenes. Then I remember reading Entertainment Weekly & hearing about another cut of the movie with a more PG-13 edge. Now we just need it released so we can enjoy the original intended version. #ReleasePG13ScoobyDoo2002
Although the closest we could get is The Misadventures of Skooks.
Would be cool, EvaFull, but won't happen since Warner Bros. never listens to their fans. Only money.
@@jeremyriley1238 Which if they think there is a demand to make money they will release it. People thought the same thing about “The Snyder Cut” and so many other “Director’s Cuts or other alternative versions” that have been released.
Producer Cut Halloween - Released
Richard Donner Cut - Superman II
Blade Runner with its numerous cuts that Ridley Scott has released
The Godfather Part III as a more recent example
"rating was R only because of one stupid joke the MPAA misinterpreted."
Damn. I was hoping there was more Linda Cardellini skin. :(((
Haha, right??
My daughter was Very little when we watched it together for the first time and CGI Scooby looked realistic to her in all the scenes. She asked me, " Mommy, how do they get Scooby to do all those tricks & learn to talk?" I told het " Scooby snacks." She thought for a minute very seriously and then nodded saying " Of course - the Scooby Snacks!" LOL
I would've loved to have seen the original R rated cut!
I actually read that Craig Titley script around the time I first got into screenwriting. It's a bit cheesy at points, but man, I really loved it. With a bit of polishing, it could've made for a great nostalgic late 90's family film.
HBO Max would be perfect for an R Rated release of this movie. With a huge warning at the beginning "THIS FILM IS FOR ADULT AUDIENCES ONLY, VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED" kinda thing
An r rating would only make this craptacular mess even worse. Not everything is improved by being edgier
@@floydharper1216 true but it would be interesting to see, also it sounds more like a PG-13 movie with one dumb joke bumping it to R.
They can't show a person getting their soul removed because it may scare kids but it's OK if it's a dog....makes sense.
I am really interested in this Lost Cut, I really hope that scenes from this cut do make it out, maybe we could even re-implement these Lost scenes from a Lost cut to possibly recreate the cut, or even better, the full cut!
i really hope that one day we get the 'pg-13' cut or the r cut, i love the 2002 film so much
I loved Linda Cardellini playing Velma 😍❤❤❤
She was great
Fun video ! We actually recently uncovered quite a few details about the original cut of the movie in an interview with the movie’s editor, Kent Beyda
fun fact: Mike Myers was originally going to be the voice of Scooby-Doo!
OMG! Imagine Scooby-Doo coming out of his doghouse with “All Star” playing in the background or paraphrasing some of Shrek’s lines with Myers’ voice.
(Sees ghost while he and the Mystery Gang are investigating the swamp)
Scooby-Doo: “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP?!”
or
Scooby-Doo: “Great Danes are like Scooby Snacks!”
or
(Sees Mondivarius’ (however it’s spelled) theme park)
Scooby-Doo: “So this must be Mondivarius’ Spooky Island. Do you think he must be compensating for something?” (Does Scooby’s iconic laugh)
I'm actually one of those kids that actually DID like the movie.
what? What do you mean one of those? People dont like this movie? I loved them both, I've probably watched them each 10 times literally
@@uno9915people dog on this movie alot
Can you imagine if WB had just accepted the MPAA's decision, and the live-action Scooby Doo Movie was released with an R rating?
It would have been dark no one would had watch it until they were 17 and anything that would be weird for a kid film would be normal for a film for people 17+
Wouldve never convinced my mom to get it
I think it would have been at least decent. I love everything James Gunn has directed even Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad, and I normally stay far away from marvel/dc movies. I know people who took their teens/kids to the Deadpool movies, but I do think a rated r movie based on a cartoon show was way too ahead of its time in 2002
@@miro5052 He didn't direct The Scooby Doo movies, he wrote them.
I wish they did
That 2002 Scooby-Doo movie is legendary for people of a certain age reaching almost a B-tier Shrek status or something and I'm glad that they got their movie the way it is. It's juuust mature enough that kids don't really feel talked down to from it but parents aren't turned off from letting kids watch it.
However, as someone who grew up on classic Scooby-Doo in the 80s and 90s (through re-showings of the old stuff, watching the contemporary stuff as it came out, and finally seeking out the stuff that's hard to find as I got a little older), I'd really like to see a fully adult version of the property. I would like to see both versions where one is just taking the source material seriously but is aged up and one just goes full stupid parody full of sex, drugs, and violence.
So. They made Velma..... what do you think
@@asideofsalt.6645 I guess I didn't know what I was asking for lol
@@CeeJayThe13th it's all your fault
6:02 The fun part is reading these lines of dialogue and hearing the original cartoon characters saying them in your head. 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
I'll say this about the Gunn scripted films:
they didn't turn Velma into an annoying skeptic
like she's characterized as nowadays.
Velma was always a skeptic, wtf?
@@jacintatarenta7531 Possibly because the gang in that episode was done like that due to the setting being an actual episode of the original cartoon (A Night Of Fright Is No Delight).
Yeah but James is also the guy trying to make Velma lesbian
Probably the biggest mistake they made with the 2002 movie is not keeping the animated intro. The film just begins without any lead up from being introduced to the characters in the opening credits.
I'll never forget the time I saw the deleted scenes in the extra DVD: they cut the best scenes in the movie!!! It could have been a great movie!
I think it was Scooby Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed that brought me into Scooby Doo as a kid. And I couldn’t stand watching the first one because I found it too scary. But I finally mustered the courage to watch it when I was 8 years old, and it’s stuck with me ever since, it’s a really fascinating film to me now that I’m an adult.
I prefer the first movie, tbh
Has more comedy and adventure!
@@cheneethompson5756 Agreed, second one’s fun, and it is what got me into Scooby Doo. But the first one is much more fascinating to me.
Those Hannah-Barbera cartoons on Saturday mornings in the 80s was the shiz-nit! We had the NES and real breakfast Cereal not like how it's made today. Those were the years to be a kid!
Always a pleasure to see a release from this channel. Top notch, consistent content!
Guilty pleasure movie for me. Also nice video mate. Solid editing and narration.
Why call it a "guilty pleasure" when it can just be a pleasure?

"The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis",
though they didn't have a dog on the show.
Isn’t surprising considering The Flinstones were inspired by The Honeymooners. I also know this fact too from Channel Frederator’s 107 Facts About Scooby-Doo.
This is one of very few movies that has perfect casting portrayal of a live action anime/cartoon, hats off to the casting team
Learning that Scooby Doo (2002) was originally going to be RATED R is crazy Zoinks no wonder why there were a lot of adult jokes that I didn’t understand when I was young
I call this: Lollipop Chainsaw & The Suicide Squad: Scooby-Doo Edition.

I remember watching the movie and kinda liking it and then watching the deleted scenes and my head exploded!!! Every one of my friends had to know!!! I played the movie at school and nobody would watch until I played the music videos for the shaggy deleted intro and the outcast land of a million drums video and the deleted scenes and the kids loved all that!!! They ruined this movie pulling scenes to make it pg

I heard about his on other UA-cam videos that was recommended.
I don’t watch a lot of Scooby Doo videos, but sometimes I watch lost media videos.
The two Scooby Doo movies we had are fondly remembered now for all around entertainment.
I would love to see that live action kiss between Daphne and Velma, because I so shipped them. ❤️
I strongly believe it’s possible the footage is somewhere in the film room where they store everything because they recently found lost footage of Halloween 5 and re released it.
And they did the same a few years ago with Halloween 6
I remember watching this movie with my “girlfriend” back in the day

Bruh -we watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, when we were kids!
To this day, I still love Scooby Doo especially from the original to the early 2000's. And seeing the live action Scooby Doo is still the best. Hearing these deleted scenes sound intriguing. Look, maybe velma is or isn't bisexual coming from me a bisexual person you cannot just change a character who existed since the late 60's. Same with making Sulu from Star Trek gay it's not a way to honor a character who existed 55 years ago. I am only saying.
The reason you can't change characters from 55 years ago from straight to bisexual or gay seems to be homophobic straight executives, fearing homophobic straight audiences. The original cartoon and Star Trek didn't really specify Velma's and Sulu's sex lives as straight people like they did Daphne and Fred's or Captain Kirk's. In film theory, the audience only knows what is shown onscreen. If you want the audience to know a character is heterosexual, you have to show them in frequent bedroom scenes with opposite sex people. Otherwise, 14-year-old girls will ship them with same-sex sidekicks in fanfics!

I'm 17 now. Please, James Gunn. I NEED TO SEE THIS VERSION WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR.
There's a fan made first "episode " of a rendition of Scooby Doo somewhere on UA-cam that I had seen that was super realistic, believable, great writing, and top notch CGI. It's called MYSTERY INCORPORATED.
I was scared during Fred's unfortunate situation, genuinely. (Not to give spoilers away) deep dive for this short film (53 min) on here you won't regret it.
Velma(Linda Cardellini ♥) made those two Scooby Doo live action movies cool. She was so smart and sexy looking in both of them. She had the perfect girl next door look.I'm glad that they didn't change her character to be gay, that would've been the most ridiculous thing ever to be shown on the big screen.Velma's origin story was never meant to be a gay character. That would have been an insult to all of the highly intelligent, sexy, somewhat nerdy looking women all over the world.I would love for the full uncut version to be released on DVD.
Velma and Daphne kissing? Who wouldn't want to see that?
I loved this film back when i saw it in cinema.. Loved the "adult" jokes at the time.
.. Cant help but think a live action scooby with a 2d "roger rabbit" style scooby wouldve been better though.
I worked on the first movie, always make me smile to see that arcade claw machine again.
This film is in my top 10 of all time.
James Gunn got his start in Troma with Tromeo & Juliet.
The soundtrack to this movie is on cd and UA-cam btw, so many big names it's hilarious.
The First Draft Of Scooby-Doo 2002 Was Written On The Same Day When Final Destination Was Released Worldwide On March 17, 2000
I actually have a disk of this!!! (The uncut) Me and my grandmother watched it when I was little XD
I doubt it.
I am glad, that Welma is not gay! She never was in the cartoon, and for me she never will be. BTW I am 39 this year 🙂
I want Rob zombie to make a scooby doo film
Oh HELL YES!
Ugh, no.🤦
Wonder if you will also do the Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed film too? There were some deleted scenes that didn't make the final cut that would've change the film for everything.
Like the one with Black Knight Ghost and 10,000 Volt Ghost stealing the costumes.
They should finish the Armageddon Scooby Doo movie.
I think that if someone asked me "What first memory do you have of watching a movie?", I'd probably answer this movie. For real, I had the VHS when I was 3 and the movie was fresh new. Sadly I don't remember the cut scenes, i probably never checked the menu of the VHS 😂 what a shame. But I would love to watch the original script. This seems like it would be a funny idea. This movie gave meorganisms every time they switched bodies when I was little and I hate them for that. We've come a long way from studios burning their trims in trash cans. Interesting Imagine if they did an animated cut of the Scooby Doo of James Gun Scooby Doo. I love Scooby doo it’s the best movie ever James Gunn should had direct the live-action Scooby and its sequel. If Gunn already made his own Scooby-Doo version, it will be more like Gunnverse. Upon rewatching the 2002 movie I must say, even though they had to cut it down to a PG rating this movie still did manage to get away with a fair amount of edgier jokes like “You don’t have the scrote for this job play” or “I’m a man of substance, dorky chicks like you turn me on too” and so it really makes me torn on how I think this movie should’ve ultimately ended up, should they have just gone all out and made it PG-13/R or is it actually better that it was in the confines of a PG rating yet they still got away with the jokes they had? Would it have been better if they just straight-up showed Shaggy doing pot inside the Mystery Machine or is it funnier the way it is because it’s sort of like a clever fake-out? Like they were making the audience THINK that’s what was going on but ultimately tricking them, so I actually don’t really know what this movie would’ve been better as that’s one of the reasons I wanna see the original version, so I can truly see if making it a satirized PG-13/R rated movie with tons of swearing and adult situations made it better or if it actually worked out better becoming a PG movie that still had snippets of adult, boundary-pushing humor in it I remember seeing an article from the 1980s saying how a show like Scooby-Doo can't work in live-action. Wow!
I saw the movie in a pack theater and most of the audience was disappointed as I was because it just didn't have the feel of a blown up Scooby episode and it doesn't need to have any type of adult humor to have a scary adult story it doesn't have to go over the top with sex when it could be scary with just the setup and the chase scenes
I still can't believe we were going to get this
Personally, I'm glad they decided to not go through with the R-rated version of Scooby-Doo. The purpose of the series was to provide innocent, clean humor for all ages and I think it would have been insulting to Hanna-Barbera's legacy and to the fanbase if they went through with the adult version. There are certain things you just don't mess with. I believe the final result of this film truly did the series justice, even if it had somewhat of a weak plot. Matthew Lillard killed it as Shaggy and the fact that Freddie Prinze Jr. fell in love and eventually married Sarah Michelle Gellar from this film is such a romantic story I adore and still follow!
If James Gunn wasn't the writer I might agree with you. I don't care about his scandals or even him. I like his work.
I agree that it would have gone against the original concept the series was created for. Furthermore, complex, and/or mature stories do not need to have displays of violence, sex, swearing, or whatever else to tell a story. For the absolute most part, showcasing those things are just cheap ways to entice a potential audience to watch.
@@MicahMicahel Nah, fuck James Gunn.
@@TheDylandProductions why? Peacemaker actually had a anti covid narrative, not sure if people notice it though. It admitted the left frames the right. TEH show was about he left and right joining forces but the left s depicted as corrupt. I almost stopped watching it after the first episode because it was looking woke, but it's ding something else. There's a psychopath character that is a moral idiot and repeats stuff he doesn't really understand. The show is an indictment of the left. does that change your mind or are you ,mad at the 'edgy' jokes he made ten years ago?

Is it possible for you to do 2017’s Power Rangers film?
10:50 It's still that way in this world if the countries ending in "stan" are anything to go off of. Even five minutes in the Bible Belt or online in a forum could tell you that. It might not be as strong as it once was in the western world, but it still lurks barely under the surface. Also, I always saw Velma as being into other girls. She did all the grunt work for the gang since the strict sodomy laws and mental asylums of the 60s kept her from revealing her feelings for Daphne while Daphne and Fred ran off to do the nasty. As for Shaggy, he was high as a kite, making him imagine both an audience laughing and Scooby talking via auditory hallucinations. All of them are on the run in their van to keep from getting arrested for draft dodging. Their crime-solving hustle pays for gas and food so they can ultimately stay on the run and get to Canada. Also, keep these interesting videos coming.
I remember seeing an article from the 1980s saying how a show like Scooby-Doo can't work in live action. I wish they had taken their word for it.
What cartoons would you say translate well to live-action and which ones don’t?
Your wish is in vain, because it does work.
Maybe shout factory could release a collector's edition
I take it the reason for an R-rated cut was to imitate '80s-90s slasher flicks and teen sex comedies, since the characters were hippies chasing and being chased by monsters in a horror comedy series. Gore makes monsters and villains scarier! Sex scenes clarify characters' sexual orientations, activity and relationships, beyond all doubt or speculation from viewers! The ones not screwing are asexual/aromantic. The boy/girl couple going at it are clearly straight. The girl/girl couple making out are clearly lesbian and the boy/boy couple getting busy are obviously gay. It also turns the audience on! Stoner comedies are another possible source for an R-rated SD. The original cartoon had lots of implied drug humor. An R-rating could graphically show Shaggy and Scooby smoking a doobie, lol! The reason for the PG-13 version seems to be parental complaints, homophobic executive meddling, continuing cartoon popularity and the success of the Ghostbusters franchise and Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series.
Your wrong have you ever heard the word bisexual

I had to question is that what James Gunn said back in 2001 is that what he’s saying now about Velma being gay because Hollywood has a bad habit of acting all sorts of progressive well after the fact as a way to virtue signal !? I’m not saying he didn’t but I many know it has happened on other occasions in the past where an actor writer or Director take credit for something they supposedly said or did in the past to make themselves look better to a modern day in the audience .
