I'm glad they didn't do the Scooby do thing where it's a guy in a rubber mask and it really was a ghost the whole time.
To be fair, Gentleman Ghost _has_ always been an actual ghost (at least every iteration I know of has been).
I was very pleasantly surprised that they introduced supernatural elements to the show so early but the episode was great
It was implied in his debut it was an act, and in an alt earth it was, this was the only time

As someone who got introduced to Gentleman Ghost because of Brave and The Bold, I got to say I really liked this cool highwayman’s version ^^
Well I was introduced to the Gentleman Ghost in the form of his Lego minifigure variant from The Lego Batman movie set.

I prefer the Brave and the Bold version. 😅 He had more class in my opinion.

@@Rebel_riot151 yeah! So many obscure ones and that I got older I recognized them. I got to know Plastic Man, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Shazam (Captain Marvel), Aquaman, Guy Gardener
as a non comic reader, I loved that gentlemen ghost was actually supernatural and not some illusion or trick, and seeing Batman not believe it until he's proven otherwise was cool
He's a real ghost in the comics too and has similar backstory as well, though he's usually more of Hawkman/Hawkgirl villain.
Probably the best villain of this first season of Batman The Caped Crusader.

tbf When he's killing stuff like aliens it's usually in the context of a massive war for humanity's survival. I always thought the point of Batman's no-kill rule is that he doesn't need guns or anything lethal to subdue his enemies, but if all else fails (and it's all of humanity at risk) he'll start killing. Pure survival would be the one exception, I'd imagine.
Or if they live long enough for the EMTs to get there, then it's the hospital's fault.
I was fully expecting yet another cameo by Constantine, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Papa Midnite instead. Not that there's anything wrong with seeing the former, but he's been in so many shows/movies, I'm ready for something fresh for DC supernatural stories.

They're funnier in a way, you can mock them about progress.
main thing is if the ghost can interact with the world or not, always a big... issue with these stories. If they're intangible, they should stay intangible. Selective stuff is just superpowers they were given by the writers because why not. Plus other powers like super strength, invisibility, teleportation, flight, etc. It's all a lot of nonsense at a certain point that I can't take remotely seriously.
@@EricLing64usually the idea is that ghosts that can affect their environment and interact with it are more powerful ones, while some of them are literally trapped in a moment in time, kinda just going through the motions because they’re not fully aware that they’re dead or there was something that they wanted to achieve prior to their deaths. Like finding out if a relative was ok or not, or finishing some kind of project, leaving some kind of legacy on the world, or even having someone figure out their cause of death. All decent examples

Gentleman Ghost felt like a nice foil to Batman: They both are from rich and old families, but whereas one uses his wealth to help the less fortunate, the other steals from them to benefit himself. Love how every villain seems to reflect a part of Batman's psyche. Wonder what Joker will be like.

Say what you will about the old design, but I much prefer the traditional version of gentleman ghost to this one. His normal design is a little corny, but it just has so much personality and would much better fit the aristocratic attitude this version exudes. This show however very much likes to take familiar character and change them in aesthetically unique ways, which to be fair has made this show stand out and be unique without sacrificing who the characters really are beyond the superficial.
yeah the other one is probably a better (or at least more striking) design but I think its too fantastical for CC which, so far, has kept its designs pretty muted and gritty.
@@calebgoodman8955 that’s fair, this one fits cc much better, but that’s probably why Im not a fan. I prefer more color and camp in my hero/villain designs. It’s not a matter of better or worse, just my personal preference. I like a lot of the designs like old school Alfred or classic clayface, but other designs, like two face, just aren’t for me. I also am not happy with onomatopoeia (along with all television adaptations that exist of the villain) because I just don’t think his whole schtick works outside of comic books.
@@lskulski I think you could do onomatopoeia but they would need to dedicate way more time to him than they did. I also like the clayface and Alfred designs they feel straight out of the golden age. Personally the one design im not on board with is Harley, pretty sure its the color scheme I dont vibe with. I think a red would've worked better than yellow but its fine I suppose.
I love Toby Stephens' voice for Gentleman Ghost.
It reminds me a lot of Simon Templeman's voice for Doctor Doom in the 90s Fantastic Four animated series.

The design is awesome, but just being a classist racist asshole just doesn’t really give the big bad vibes that other versions of the Gentleman Ghost had. Animation was great and all, but instead of being someone to fear or hate he’s just a stubborn jerk who refuses to accept that titles and money don’t make anyone better than anyone else. To each fan his or her own I guess, but not as good as others in my opinion.

I'm actually surprised they suddenly went supernatural with this show instead of keeping it somewhat realistic. I'm hoping Gentleman Ghost returns because despite what he's done I felt bad for him when he was pleading for Batman of all people not to turn him over to that witch doctor guy.
There's always been supernatural stuff in Batman. One of the recurring villains, Solomon Grundy, is undead for crying out loud

It is reflective of his original design. In the original Golden Age comics Alfred was a portly character. Not the form British Special Forces Operative that he became in the modern era.
