Dead Space 2008 is my childhood game. One of the best if not the best horror game of all time. One on which I had the best scares, moments of tension, and the most scared I've ever been at progressing through each level. Now with the remake, the legacy of Dead Space continues to live on, and I'm now enjoying full time the Callisto Protocol and Dead Space Remake. My favourite games. 20/20 would play again and again and again and again till the next 2050 remake 😂

You know what deserves a similar place? Well, we need to go back, BACK, to King's Quest 1's SCI remake. Only a few years later, that game looks and sounds much better than the original and expands on the gameplay with new controls while not going full on mouse based, still keeping the text. The Mario Advance games on the GBA are the All-Stars remakes but with all sorts of new challenges added. The Donkey Kong Country GBA versions on the other hand largely miss the mark, changing too much with mini-games that stray far too much from the core gameplay experience.
Great review! Love the DS series, played the shit out of them a long while ago on the 360. Many hours sunk into the first two. 3 was fine, that cliffhanger though. The best remake of all time is Final Fantasy 7 remake. Obviously they made some mistakes by monkeying with the story and screwing with the pacing to inflate the play time but overall it is unmatched. The graphics and care brought to it along with the actors chose and voiceline delivery were all top notch. Not an easy task with nostalgia on that level and the graphic limitations of the original. Then you have the combat. It's a work of art unrivaled. They didn't just blend real time with turn based principals while keeping the ATB and innovative materia systems, they did it fluidly and flawlessly. The combat is still meant to be played turned based. A fact lost on many fools who questioned the ATB gains of their AI party mates. It is all done instantaneously, slick and fluid. Sure, they tried to expand and add something, but it just does not work for me. The same goes for the regenerator enemy - a meh story. I don't know why nowadays every single game thinks that each boss fight needs to have 3 phases. The Remake boss fights are not hard, in fact, you can cheese them. During the first Leviathan fight you manually shoot the weakspots and skip the last phase quickly, in the second Leviathan fight you can use the turrets in specific order to make it very easy and the final boss can be downed with just a pulse rifle and its grenade option during the last "hit the weakspot" section. If you know how the game works, you will realize that backtracking is only necessary when you have obtained the third security clearance. Up until then it is actually detrimental.
