Thanks for watching. This Husqvarna trimmer wasn't starting and after taking a good look at it new fuel lines and a good carb cleaning were needed.
I found it much easier to just replace the carburetor for $13 on Amazon comes pre adjusted and more importantly, comes with flat head screws for adjustment instead of the ridiculous EPA mandated recessed screws that require a special Pac-Man wrench. Best advice after two seasons, throw out the carburetor throw out the fuel lines throughout the spark plug and make sure to properly mix the oil exactly according to the recommendations. Don’t forget to grease the trimmer head once in a while.
thanks
Thank you so much. Followed this video the whole way, replaced the fuel lines, cleaned carb, replaced filter that had come off from line. Runs as good as new. And I have never once done anything with a small engine.
Great to hear!
Awesome video! Many youtubers explain one part of the process, but you've shown top to bottom how to take it apart, put it back together, the post-op tuning process, and why you're doing what you're doing.
Hey thanks for the comment I appreciate it.
Thank you. This video helped me replace the carb, fuel lines and fuel filter on the same Husqvarna.
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it
when you show how you turn the screws it would be help full if you turn machine so we can see what you are turning
Thanks David Slick for the comment.
Wonfully narrated with detailed information, excellent videography and sound audio mix.
Most importantly, a practical solution in less than 10 mins (YaaaaY)
Awesome work man.
Keep em coming.
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it
You put the plastic fitting on the wrong line. Per Husqvarna, it's meant to be a coupling for the filtered line, and pulled up snug against the inside of the tank.
Thanks for the information
Very good and informative video. The slant cut of the gas lines was a great explanation. I watched other videos and they didn’t explain that or why. Good explanation of the tuning too. All very helpful and complete.
Thank you Tracy Roberts for the comment I appreciate it.
Watching and hearing your explanation of adjusting the fuel mixture screws and idle screw was extremely helpful.
Hearing that you cleaned what needed to be cleaned but not seeing it was a bit frustrating.
Overall though, a great video and very useful!
Thanks for the time and energy spent sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it. I'll try and do better next time.
Just spray some of that crc carb cleaner. Black bottle
Would like to find the lock hole to replace bump mechanism on a Husqvarna 128 LD string trimmer.
I'll have to take a look to find out.
Brilliant! Had the exact same problem. Renewed carb parts but never in a thousand years suspected that the carb needed readjustment. Found this video by chance, followed it, and bingo. One of the best.
Thank you Steve O for the comment I appreciate it
Is the fuel line failure due to Ethonal in the gas?
Thanks for the comment. Yes ethanol gas and prolonged exposure to the gas. If the trimmer were ran dry each time I'm sure it would have lasted longer.
Great video very helpful it really helped to know the reason for turning each screw
Thank you Jacob Popielarczyk for the comment I appreciate it
Helpful. I havethe 126LD that's run flawlessly the 7-8 years I've had it, but I've never replaced the spark plug or fuel filter and this afternoon finally started to give me problems. This will help.
2 things I would've liked to know more about:
You say clean the carb "whatever needs to be cleaned". Carbs are more complicated than that implies. I would've liked to see exactly what and how.
I also would've liked some commentary as you were tuning it, not after. Also mentioning the tools you used to do it.
But all in all very helpful. Thanks!
You are absolutely correct. However they car so complicated that you cannot possibly clean every orifice. Can what looks dirty, clear what holes you can reach and see but after that doesn't work just replace it
@@ChuckD59 oreilly's sells a carb and choke cleaner. Just spray that shit everywhere up in there. Cant do any harm
Anytime you make a video you need to show everything you do. The H screw and L screw you adjust but do not show where they are located and which one is whoch
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Great video explaining each step and even showing how to adjust the idle and adjust to how to keep it running properly. No issues changing my carburetor following your video
Excellent. Thank you for the comment
It's very satisfying when you have diagnosed and fixed something
Oh you know it. That's why I started doing this channel.
This is my EXACT brand trimmer head.
I bought a battery-powered unit but I think I will give a repair of the old one a shot.
Thank you for taking the time to do this video!
no problem and thank you John Bedell.
I did the exact same think. Pos Stihl electric died one yr after the one yr warranty .....smh
Well done. Including the post-installment tuning process was very helpful as mine performed exactly the same way after replacing the carb. Thank you!
You are welcome and thank you for the comment I appreciate it
How come you didn't change the primer/ purge bulb from the carburetor tho?
this video was shot many years ago, when I didn't have a ready supply of bulbs with me. If I had done the video today, I would have changed it.
@@HomeGaragechannel I realized that bro
Thank you for another video, Home Garage. What you showed seemed like a minimal rebuild. I usually use the whole kit because an aged needle doesn't necessarily seal consistently even after blasting everything out with carb spray.
You are correct. I very rarely use the full kit to rebuild carbs. If I find a carb that needs a full rebuild I usually buy a new carb.
Helpful info man. Keep it coming. Thanks.
Thank you Phil De Giudice for the comment I appreciate it.
This video was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much
No problem Pat Lee
At about 5:55 is when most people will put it in the trash.
I completely agree with you
Bulb isn't getting alot fuel in it,not Evan half,
You are absolutely correct
Where did you learn that trick on how to cut the fuel lines??? Wow, amazing! Stupendous! ........................
Thanks for the comment. I also subscribed to your channel.
This has helped me a great deal, from what I have learned from this video is that my problem is the diaphragm. Thanks
yes it is most likely the problem
Thanks for all the information and video
No problem and thanks for the comment I appreciate it
if your 128LD had issues with bogging down when giving throttle, change the main gasket. you are welcome.
Well I couldn't answer that honestly because I've never had a high-end trimmer like a Husqvarna or steel so I don't know when I get one I'll let you know thank you
Thank you for the comment
Do you mean 'fuel line' to be the 'return line'? You begin calling the return line 'the fuel line', as to where to connect the internal connector. Top tube on carb goes to right of the two holes, which is the return. Bottom tube connects to the left which is the fuel line to carb, and it gets a filter, right?. Why does the return line get a connector?
Love your trouble starting it!! Been there, seen that bought the tee shirt!
Thanks for clarifying it. Yes it doesn't always start the way it should.
Man, thanks for this vid. Haven't started yet but when I do I'll look for this vid as a guide. Also, showed me a couple more things I didn't know before. Appreciate it.

Thanks for the much-needed help! You nailed it from beginning to end as I'm getting more trimming done with your help.
no problem and thanks
I am pretty sure this trimmer uses the same engine as my 223L model. I am amazed with how much power this engine has. It probably gets up to 12000 RPMs at full throttle
I definitely agree with you.
Just had to do a fuel line replace on my husqvarna weed eater. This definitely helped. Thank you.
Thank you nick stevens for the comment I appreciate it.
Good video it really helped me to replace my filter and lines thanks
Thank you Steve Collins for the comment I appreciate it
Decent video, but it would have been better to explain what you were doing with the adjustment screws while you were doing it.
You are absolutely right. Thanks for the comment
hi. i have a husqvarna trimmer that starts and runs well when i run it in 1/2 choke. as soon as i try to run it with no choke so can get full power it shuts down. how do i fix this?
Adjust the carb for more fuel. This video should show you how.
Thank you. This video helped me replace my fuel lines. Parts were about $20. You saved me a hundred or more!!
Glad it helped
Where can you get the diaphragm for the carburetor that you changed out? Thank you
I buy them from Amazon. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
I am only trying to remove the carb to get easier access to the fuel lines to replace them. I have a 128c, but my carb does not come out at all (or not with gentle force. All videos I've seen make it seem like it just slips out. Any ideas?
sometimes the carb can get stuck, to the gasket, so you might have to use some force.
I have a husqvarna 343r Wacker it's leaking oil how can I fix it?
I've never worked on that model before so I'm not sure where to begin.
What tool do I need for adjusting the air fuel? I know it's a Phillips for the idle. Thanks!
its the splined carb tool
I have like to have seen the adjustments after you installed the new carburetor. All we seen was the screw driver adjusting, but didn't see where you adjusted .
sorry for the bad angle, should have had the camera on the other side of me.
Thanks, helped me out! Knowing that it was ethanol chewing up the fuel line was a helpful detail. Ethanol free from now on!

For this one its 3/16"
3:15 pull the fuel line up till it won't come up any further? Or is that the other line with the plastic attachment? Hope this "old" video is still active. Thank you.

I just can’t disassemble carbs and gas tanks without cleaning the outside first just common sense to me.
great common sense
"Mechanic in a bottle" helps burn some of that carbon out. I swear by that stuff
glad it works for someone
Does the little hose connectors on the fuel lines serve any other purpose like restricting the fuel flow so it doesn’t run too rich?
nope, it is not needed, I think it was used to help in the production process
EXCELLENT Video - Thanks for sharing!

Might as well flush out the gas tank cause there will be broken plasticbpieces in there.

Which is the L screw, their are no markings on the cover.
The L screw closer to the engine.

Tell me more about what the carburetor goes on. Is it an echo product?
@@HomeGaragechannel cub cadet. Weed wacker.
@@theodoreathome is it a 4 cycle?
Hi. Why do you put he original Husky weed eater return line coupler back on? Cannot you just leave a cut fuel line? Not sure purpose of coupler.
I'm not sure what your asking about, can you give me a time stamp in the video?
@@HomeGaragechannel At minute 3:18 you cut the return fuel line clean with scissor and then insert the original splice / coupler to the end of the fuel line. Not sure what the purpose of that coupler is on the end of the return fuel line. Any idea?
I see, I did not do A very good job or showing or explaining what I did back then. So that plastic piece is a splice/coupling, and it's used on the return line, as a stopper, to keep the line from coming out of the tank. Once I cut the angle piece off, I installed the splice, I then pull the return line out of the tank till it stops. Good question.
This is way easier to follow. People be doing to much on other how to videos.
thanks
Sir . You did an awesome job on your video. Very easy to understand what your doing. I have a husqvarna 123L and plug not firing. Put new plug in and no charge. How can I check the coil to see if it's working correctly. Thank you for sharing your video. I will check out your channel. I love tinkering on small engines. I get alot of my projects from the local dumpster. Some are easy fixing or I will take 2 or 3 and make 1. Thank you sir . Hope to hear from ya about my 123L
thanks I appreciate that. you're going to have to take the plastics off to get to the coil. First try and figure out the air gap between the coil and the magnet on the flywheel. I would use feeler gauges but if you don't have some, try a standard business card. IF the card will easy slide between the magnet and coil, then loosen the bolts holding the coil and let the coil attach to the magnet with the carb between them. then tighten the screws for the coil, remove the card and put the plastics back on and then test for spark.
@@HomeGaragechannel I will try that. Thank you sir

I got a used trimmer from a neighbor. What is your opinion on older Craftsman ?
well it depends on the model number. I don't mind older stuff, the problem is getting parts for them.
Another You Tuber repair shop, says it is the other gas additives. Not ethanol, that messes up the rubber parts. He says use the premixed gas. Sort of high at $19 a gallon.
it's a matter of opinion, government says it's perfectly fine to use ethanol
@@HomeGaragechannel Government says a lot of things.
Great vid. If the little white fuel line fitting that mounts to the tank is missing, will it still work?
Thank you scott hillegass for the comment. Yes it will still work it's just that over time the line might harden and shrink. The line will have a chance to come loose.
For confirmation, the left line with filter connects to left side of carburetor, right? When I installed new carburetor, as soon as it runs for a minute it dies. Suggestions?
yes which ever line you have as the filter will go onto the brass port that's further away from the bulb. As for the stopping, have you tried adjusting the carb to deliver more fuel?
Okay I have the filter line installed correctly. This is a new carburetor, didn’t consider adjusting. Which screw to add more fuel and clockwise or counter clockwise, how much do I turn? Thanks for your comments
Did you forget to install the fuel line connector on the intake fuel line? Of course you gonna have a leak, the connector is needed to avoid that….
excellent video demo on how to trouble shoot and tune a husky trimmer. Thanks
Thank you Eugene Milton for the comment I appreciate it
Isn't it a gasket that goes onto the carb before you put the air cover on? Thanks
I don't see One on the diagrams for it, but the gasket kits seem to have one in them. So yes there probably should be, but most times it glued to the back of the filter cover. So It was always there.
Fails to show whuch fuel line goes to which carb port
Left line was filter. It went to the bottom port.
How often does a kill switch fail? Have two of the 128 ld's. Both have a spark. new carbs, new fuel line fresh premix gas. Adjusted the cabs L& H 1 1/4 turns Neither one will even make a sound to start.
I would also perform a compression test.

Mine starts and runs rough, i adjusted the low fuel and high fuel adjustment, but it breaks at idle and doesnt want to accelerate. New fuel filter, and fuel lines. The prime is good no cracks and its soft. I guess just needs a carburetor cleaning. Would you recommend just to buy a new one? If so, where do you recommend? Not sure where to get gaskets to clean.
Absolutely. Try Ereplacementparts dot com. Put in your model number and make sure the serial number is in the range it shows for that model number. Have you looked at the spark arrestor screen on the muffler? It might be clogged.

How come older Husqvarna equipment has green caps while new equipment has gray caps?
I'm not sure. Probably just a visual indicator that you didn't buy an older model.
@@HomeGaragechannel my dad's 128ld is 5 years old and has a green cap. Mine is a few months old and has a gray cap
@@js_1995x I see. It's a strange change.
@@HomeGaragechannel It's a victim of the Green Movement. Plus a Weed whacker is supposed to kill the green green grass it is whacking. Which line is the fuel line and where does it connect? Do I connect the fuel line (the one with the filer) to brass port closest to the bulb? Or further away from the bulb?
I apologize that I didn't make it clear. The fuel line that has the fuel filter goes to the brass port closer to the trimmer head. The return line that has no fuel filter on it goes to the brass port close to the primer bulb.

Thank you for this great video. I still have a question. In a couple of other videos, what is shown is that when the fuel line is inserted into the tank, it is pulled through he tank, and the white connector is inserted into it. Then a segment of the fuel line is attached to the fuel filter. And this segment is in turn inserted into the white connector. Then the fuel line is pulled until the white connector is set in place inside the tank, and the fuel line is finally inserted into the carburetor. This is what I believe I saw in a couple of videos.
In your video, I understand that you do not insert any connector in the fuel line. As I see, you insert the fuel line into the tank, you pull it from inside the tank, and then you insert directly this fuel line into the fuel filter. And then you insert the fuel line into into the carburetor. And then, it seems that you insert the white connector to the return line only. So I am afraid that I end up being confused, not by your video, but by the fact that there seems to be two different procedures at work here and there. Could you clarify? Can we indeed entirely bypass the insertion of the white connector in the middle of the fuel line? I hope I was clear enough in my explanations. My apologies in advance if I got something wrong. This is the first time I am doing this repair to my Husqvarna 128L that I have owned and used it for about 7 or 8 years.
The white connector is completely optional. You really don't even need one at all. I usually the connector back on the way I find it but sometime I leave it out.
I think the connector to the line with the filter is simply to provide a length (reference length for replacement) at which when you pull it back into the tank, it will stop when the connector meets the inside hole of the tank; this way you get a good length so that the filter itself can lay at the bottom of the fuel tank.
I'm guessing the other line is just to drain excess fuel back to the tank from the carb?
Home Garage Did you pull the return line all the way up inside the tank until the white connector touched the top of the tank?
I got two of these things for free need these running before the spring lol. Thanks so much. I need a new fuel tank aswell
Glad to help
Hello! I have this same trimmer which i just bought a new carb for. Even after buying this new carb, it still wont run. I know it does run though because i tried it with the old carb.
gotcha, depending on how the engine has worn over time, sometimes a new carb might need to be adjusted to work with that engine. Other than that, more than likely the engine is flooded from repeated attempts to start it.
