I want to add that the DCT transmission is fantastic. It is hard to admit but the computer shifts netter than you ever will. You never miss a shift or short shift. It is impossible to stall starting out on a slope. And there is no reving and shifting like a standard clutch. The DCT has 2 clutches and each engages at the perfect RPM, seamlessly. I rode almost entirely in "Sport" mode, and only used the paddle shifters when passing or downshifting on soft roads.
I just stumbled across your video while watching Tewster2's Alaska trip on his WR250R here on the Tube after reading his ride report on ADV Rider. I been riding a 2007 V-strom 650 loaded out and I am looking at getting another bike. Currently been Going back and forth between a WR250R ( Course, I really do not want to go back to messing with tubes now that I am much older ) and a BMW GS700 as it has tubeless tires. You right, Those BMW's are ridiculous on prices. Anyway this NC700 has peaked my interest by checking out your video. Also I see I could be able to transfer my luggage straight from the V-Strom 650 to this NC700 as I see you have the same Happy Trail Panniers I have on the Wee and basically the same top case which mine is a GIVI brand, But basically the same top case. Think mine is a 52L which it holds a bunch of gear if packed good, and same with those Panniers also holds plenty of gear, plus I have waterproof bags for the top of the Panniers which I cinch down with Rok straps.. All I would need is probably some different mounting racks for the Panniers and a different rack for the top case which would save me a bunch of money getting it ready for long touring camping trips. Thanks for the video, as this NC700 has now peaked my interest big time. Heck the thing even has a trunk under the seat which looks big. I always referred to the V-Strom as my pack mule and it has never let me down and the fact it has tubeless tires has always been a plus, as my days of changing tubes in the middle of nowhere on side of road in mud and pouring down rain is over with. Going have to find a Powersports dealer who has one of these in stock to go check it out. Knowing I can transfer most of my stuff from WEE to this bike could save me a ton of money as those Happy Trail Panniers with Racks were close to a grand when I bought them and that top Givi case was around 300 bucks I believe when I bought it several years ago. Is the seat Height on this NC700 about the same as the V-Strom?
The panniers shown are from Tusk - WAY cheaper than Happy Trails but just as durable and completely water-tight. I used SW Motech removable racks and just bolted the panniers on. Don't compare a WR250R to a V-Strom. I have had BOTH! The WR is great off-road, but a real ball-breaker for long distances. It was never meant to be a road bike. The V-Strom is just about perfect on the road, but I hated the WIDE boxes. The Honda has the low exhaust and this provides the narrower profile. This alone kept me from buying another Suzuki - plus the higher price! Yes, tubeless tires were another factor. I traded off a Triumph Tiger to avoid tubes before this ride!
Thanks for the quick comeback. Yeah the Tusk are about the same as the Happy Trails but like you mentioned cheaper. Those Tusk appears to be made the same as the Happy Trails. I am not sure they had those Tusk Panniers when I was fitting out the V-Strom back in early 2008 when I bought this 2007. I agree on the WR250R. I would not want to try and ride it many miles on the HWY, especially on the interstate which I try to avoid anyway. Only reason, I had looked at the WR250R was I was thinking of hauling it on a bike carrier on my Jeep to get to the mountains and riding it once there as living here in Louisiana, it would be way to much Hwy riding to get to more relaxed roads. I certainly will be Going go check out this NC700. Looks to be just the bike I am looking for. I envy all you Riders who experienced the sheer beauty and excitement of riding to Alaska. I couldn't agree more with you regarding that less is more. I have ridden tens of thousands of miles across the US and about 6 different countries. I have relied mostly in inexpensive but dependable bikes. Currently I ride the V-strom DL 650 adventure and I am very happy with it. When I was shopping for the strom I consider the NC700 which I agree with you it's a fantastic bike. I am a firm believer that any bike can do the job as long as you have the sense of adventure. Yes, I actually had a DL650 for my first ADV bike. I would rate the Honda better for the simple reason of the narrower rear cases. My ADV-model Suzuki was close to 4-feet wide and I once got side-swiped because of it!

I have the NC700S, 2013,for those who don't know that's the 'naked' version which isn't available in the US. The bike is my daily companion ever since for now 70000 km. I haven't been to Alaska but I live in Costa Rica and a lot of roads here are gravel roads. I had a dozen different bikes in 40 years of motor cycling and I must say for me the NC700S is the best all rounder that Honda has made. Absolutely love the bike 👍👍👍 Thanks for the nice review!!!
I love my NC700DCT. I did a 6500 mile tour of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah last June and the NC was flawless. Love the DCT in the twisties and in town traffic. Never in the wrong gear, never stall.
Enjoyed your video, Randy. I love that you're on a Honda. They're bulletproof, aren't they! You've taken a modestly priced machine, added some fun and good-looking accessories, and turned it into a real competitor in the ADV bike world. I have ridden an NT700V for the last few years and really like it. It's pretty similar to yours, more of a street bike. it's one of those bikes that hasn't been the most popular, and I've gotten a few snickers along the way, but it just does nearly all I need out of a motorcycle. In 2013 I ride to Alaska on a BMW R 1150 GS that I purchased used with 1800 miles in it was an much earlier bike and they had installed panniers an trunk on it. This was early June and the roads were sloppy and slippery. I had installed tk 80s. Man the Harleys wallowing just like hogs and many slide of the of the road and 2 past the road construction crews were lifting them out. Sure a beautiful trip. Now have an AT and a CB500X set up with Rally Raid and T-Rex Racing bars and skid plate.
adv on an nc. very cool. i did 17 000km on mine last year. love all your mods. my 2016 comes with a power source from the fuse box and you plug in a accessory wire and it gives you 5 fuse protected accessory plugs. gps.led lights. heated grip. 12v plug and something else, cant remember. anyhow who needs a 30k $ bmw when you get the same smile per mile for 1/3 the price. great video, show people they can have just as much fun with alot less. very cool.

NICE! Very well done! Great layout! I'm just getting familiar with my new to me 2015 DCT ABS, I'm a former BMW K75RTA owner as well as a Suzuki GS 850, I didn't think I could transition to a chain or automatic but here I am! Love it so far, I do miss my BMW fairings though!
Good trip and a nice bike. Couldn't agree more that "adventure" is not a quality of the bike, but the attitude of the rider and your approach to the trip, even if it's a comparatively short trip. Your set-up is perfect and very close to what I'm doing now for a cross country ride in Oct. only major thing is your fuse set up in the frunk. That's above my knowledge ... although I did install two tenders... and cig lighter. Yes these bikes are AWSOME and I wouldn't trade mine for any Harley if I gotta ride into the unknown. Great video.

Great review, Randy. Honda appears to have a couple strong 80% ADV rigs in the mid-weight arena: the NC700 and CB500X -- where you add specific upgrades (Rally Raid) to meet your needs. Hard to beat the reliability, as you note. And keeping $$ in your pocket makes sense vs bragging rights for a pricey heavy-weight. Your experience with a wide range of on/off-road riding really helps clarify what bikes work for different levels of technicality - be it the TAT, BDRs or long-range trips.
I realize this is an older video and you might be aware of this but there is/was a rack available from a member of the NC forum that replaced the passenger seat and had a hole for access to the fuel cap without removal. If you do a search you should be able to find it.
It would be great if you listed products you added and links....I want to buy and rig up a bike similar and would like to get the box racks for sides and crash bar for sure...Love how you did the power management with the terminal cube for accessories.
I ride in the city and do a lot of filtering. So i dont like to add hand guards because of the extra width they add. Would you reccomend heated grips or rather get some heated gloves? Its hard to imagine grips getting warm enough to warm my fingers through gloves and wind, but heated gloves dont provide good protection, i just cant decide.
Your poster image for the video shows a tank bag. Can you talk more about that, or maybe you have another video on that? I just got a 2014 NC and am looking for a tank bag that will will work with the plastic lid to the storage compartment. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Yes, I always use a tank bag for long trips. Handy for camera, bug dope, charger cords, maps and misc. You need a bag with a harness that straps around the front frame and side frame tubes. Then the tank bag just unclips. I bought this one from Revzilla, but it's probably been discontinued by now. Check out Moose ADV bags.
The way you have that setup it looks an awful lot like it's bigger brother the African twins and it does also come with the DCT but you can buy 3 of the bite that you have versus the African twin which I'm with you why spend $30,000 for the same amount of fun as a $10,000 ride to me and don't make a lot of sense enjoyed your video very informative thank you and hope to catch more your videos
Where did you get that bar which your Garmin is mounted on? It looks like the windshield is attached to it? Never seen that kind of bar for mounting things on but it looks cool.
Looking at getting back into motorcycles. Have determined that paved and unpaved roads will be my main focus. Some of the roads may have a bit of rocks so i don't know about that. Owned before: Kawasaki 175 Enduro, Honda XL250 (Okinawa), Suzuki GS1100G. Started looking at the KLR. But being in my 60's i am not so sure. Seems great though. Then started looking at the Africa Twin. Kinda big and tall. I am 6'1" so maybe that's okay. Not sure. Started looking at lighter alternatives and this, or maybe the newer 750 version with the DCT also look interesting. Seems to me many falls result from...stalling! So the DCT looks like a major benefit to me. While the KLR looks more off road worthy, the DCT is compelling and so probably the AT or NC7XX with the DCT. You certainly showed it is capable of some adventure! Wonder how it would do on the desert roads around Nevada/Arizona/California?
coming to this video New Years day 2021. Am 2yrs into my return to motorcycling after 30 off. Last two yrs riding a 2010 Honda nc700v ( also a bike very popular in Europe but not in states) and am looking to upgrade with longer trips in mind, including the ability to go on forest/ dirt roads, but not hard core off roading. I have been looking at the Honda, now 750x DCT and wondering on your opinion as to waiting for new 2021 version with some nice new features, but an inch lower from shorter shock travel vs 2016, etc with relatively higher ground clearance . I am 5'6" with 30" inseam, so feet closer to ground and even lower center of gravity would be welcome. Do you think 1" lower ground clearance would matter on the dirt roads you experienced? Randy, I love the 700 and I am considering buying one, but I do Iron Butt rides that often include looooong stretches of highway. How fast could you cruise freeways for extended periods and what king of range could I expect. I don't camp, choosing hotels instead, so my luggage loads are some clothes and electronics, virtually no food or water..... thanks in advance! Nicely set up bike and great video.
I have a 2013 NC 700x And I find it cruises comfortably up to 75 miles an hour keeping it between 60 to 65 mph I’m getting 70 to 72 miles per gallon with a 3.7 gallon tank that allows you close to 250 miles
Would you say that this is pretty much the ideal bike for what you did or did you just use what you had and it worked well? Did you ever wish it had 19" wheels up front?

How did your chain and sprockets do on the gravel roads? Your front tire is a 17 inch? How was traction on dirt/gravel roads without the knobbies? what roads did you ride without the dirt tires? I'm contemplating an alaska ride next year. enjoyed the videos. Dave.
Zero wear. I expect the chain and sprockets to be good for at least 20,000 miles. I rode on dirt and gravel roads. There is NO disadvantage of the 17-inch front wheel. Look at all the big BMW's out there! Well maybe the only disadvantage is that Heidenau doesn't make a 17-inch front tire, but the TKC80 held up very well and would probably last 7,500 miles.
The NC700X and CTX700 are smart motorcycles. I think they are excellent value and the customization possibilities make a lot of sense. Given the engine is derived from the Honda FIT, does it have an oil pan like an automotive design?
I noticed that you had/have a vstrom and a Yamaha 250. Where would you not be comfortable taking the Honda? I assume the Yamaha is for more off-road environments.
Yes, I rode the eastern half of the Trans-America Trail on my V-Strom. Great bike but I hated the SUPER-wide panniers! The NC700 is probably a foot narrower! I rode the western TAT, AZBDR, COBDR on a Yamaha WR250R. Also a fantastic dual-sport (reliable, economical) but a real pain in the A** on long days, if you know what I mean. I would take the Honda anywhere I would take the V-Strom - especially if you added a skid plate. Both are good dirt road bikes. The Yamaha goes anywhere you can point it with true motocross capability. But that also means it is the least comfortable. I had added well over $1,000 in parts to make it into an ADV bike...
Randy, I am thinking about getting NC. I cannot decide between DCT or regular. What is your opinion? BTW, I am a new rider. Is there any other bike you think that I can take a look that I would like as a new rider?
I love my DCT. You won't stall in a creek. Never have to think about shifting or stalling in traffic. Put in sport mode and great in the twisties. Use the paddles if you really want another gear.
I am thinking about purchasing this one... How did it handle off road? Also Do you feel that it has enough power? I was looking to at least get a 800 but wanted to know your thoughts.. I loved what you said about not having to have an expensive adventure bike.
Nice video, great info. Since Honda is world wide and Hondas are super reliable, Im looking at the 700 or possibly the 750 if it comes here. Did you upgrade the forks and, or shock?
Really enjoyed this video! It was very helpful and I took notes; I'm sure I will be asking you more questions along the way, too. I may get a new windscreen as the stock is not quite tall enough for me...works great around town but if I commute on the hwy, the wind is just too much. Still need a radiator guard and I like that RAM mount behind the windscreen...where can I find one like that? What year is your bike? I just got a '16 model two months ago and it's also DCT...I just love riding it! The gas mileage is phenomenal! The tank bag...does it just mount via magnetic mounts? I haven't tried my Cortech bag on mine yet...I just assumed it wouldn't stick since it's plastic? But this model has those utility rails where you can strap the bag on, I guess...the space under the rails isn't very big so some straps, if they have buckles, won't fit under it. Thanks for sharing this...looked like you had the perfect setup for such a great trip!
RAM mounts are available from them direct or GPS city, Rezvilla, etc. You want the bar mount. My NC700XD is a 2015, bought new with this trip in mind. The Cortech tank bag fastens with a strap around the head tube, and a second strap around the frame just in front of the seat (you have to remove the seat to wrap it around the frame.) I leave the straps on all te time, even when I don't need the tank bag.
Hello Randy I am currently thinking about trading in my vstrom 650 for a Honda nc700 just because it's lighter and easier to handle. But there is a very good chance the NC750 is coming to the states so I may hold out and see. Congrats on your trip. The hiedenau tire will last you a very long time a very popular tire with the adventure bike people. Its a shame they don't make a 17" tire. What state did you start your ride from?
Awesome and great job. Sub'd and thumbs up! { I have an important question at the end...). I have to admit that you have bested my BMW GS. There really is nothing good about a BMW except to talk about it to other BMW owners. They have none of the advantages of your machine. I like the way you executed all of the needed adventure gear. PLEASE I have a question. I started riding bikes in the late 60's. Chains those days were NOT FUN...and became very loud in short order. Please comment in full on the use of a chain these days. I saw where you said it should last 20k. That is acceptable. But does it start whirring and making that chain noise? What did you do maintain it/ lube it etc. If the chain is quiet and a non issue, this will be my next bike. I sold the GS... good riddance!!!!!!! If I may offer a tip. After leathers, Joe rocket stuff, 2 aerostich road crafters, 40+ yrs and 400k, ... the absolute best gear is Motoport. I love that I can instal a liner and not get wet & stay warm. Check them out!
Interesting. I'm thinking about getting a Tiger 800 XRX for this kind of riding, but you make the NC700X look like a viable option and the DCT is an intriguing option. May I ask why you did this ride on the NC instead of the Tiger 800 XC I saw in one of your past videos?
Until you need to do a valve check and you might change your mind. I Had many bikes in my life and some were much bigger and faster then the NC. The NC with DCT is like the sweet relax ride that get you smile all the time. And the best thing is that is very easy to maintain. Oil change every 8K miles and filters every 16K miles. Valve check is so easy with nothing needed then a #10 ranch and flat screwdriver. Best all round bike. (My last bike before the NC was 2014 Triumph Tiger 800xc)

I would rather have a reasonably-priced bike with lots of miles (and smiles) than an over-priced pig in the garage with monthly payments!

NICE! Very well done! Great layout! I'm just getting familiar with my new to me 2015 DCT ABS, I'm a former BMW K75RTA owner as well as a Suzuki GS 850, I didn't think I could transition to a chain or automatic but here I am! Love it so far, I do miss my BMW fairings though!
I bought the nc750x dct last spring, put 10k miles on. Love it!
Good trip and a nice bike. Couldn't agree more that "adventure" is not a quality of the bike, but the attitude of the rider and your approach to the trip, even if it's a comparatively short trip. You need to justify nothing. It works and, from the look of the pictures, you had a great ride. Cheers and thanks for the survey of your preparations.
I just did a 6500 mile trip to Colorado, Utah, etc. on my 2014 DCT. Love mine.

Your set-up is perfect and very close to what I'm doing now for a cross country ride in Oct. only major thing is your fuse set up in the frunk. That's above my knowledge ... although I did install two tenders... and cig lighter. Yes these bikes are AWSOME and I wouldn't trade mine for any Harley if I gotta ride into the unknown. Great video.
I added a marine-type fuse block so that each circuit had its own fuse. Easy to install - just wire to the battery!

Great review, Randy. Honda appears to have a couple strong 80% ADV rigs in the mid-weight arena: the NC700 and CB500X -- where you add specific upgrades (Rally Raid) to meet your needs. Hard to beat the reliability, as you note. And keeping $$ in your pocket makes sense vs bragging rights for a pricey heavy-weight. Your experience with a wide range of on/off-road riding really helps clarify what bikes work for different levels of technicality - be it the TAT, BDRs or long-range trips.
I considered the CB500X - but the package was too expensive. Plus, the bike is a little to small for my long legs and arms.
Sufficient and humble review and since you have ridden Wr250 and Vstrom on TAT pretty much sums it for me. NC700 DCT it is for my next mocorcydle.
When riding in mud and slush spray PAM or such on the bike and it helps keep this from baking on hard. It is easier to clean up.

I realize this is an older video and you might be aware of this but there is/was a rack available from a member of the NC forum that replaced the passenger seat and had a hole for access to the fuel cap without removal. If you do a search you should be able to find it.

I ride in the city and do a lot of filtering.
So i dont like to add hand guards because of the extra width they add.
Would you reccomend heated grips or rather get some heated gloves? Its hard to imagine grips getting warm enough to warm my fingers through gloves and wind, but heated gloves dont provide good protection, i just cant decide.

Your poster image for the video shows a tank bag. Can you talk more about that, or maybe you have another video on that? I just got a 2014 NC and am looking for a tank bag that will will work with the plastic lid to the storage compartment. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Yes, I always use a tank bag for long trips. Handy for camera, bug dope, charger cords, maps and misc. You need a bag with a harness that straps around the front frame and side frame tubes. Then the tank bag just unclips. I bought this one from Revzilla, but it's probably been discontinued by now. Check out Moose ADV bags.

The way you have that setup it looks an awful lot like it's bigger brother the African twins and it does also come with the DCT but you can buy 3 of the bite that you have versus the African twin which I'm with you why spend $30,000 for the same amount of fun as a $10,000 ride to me and don't make a lot of sense enjoyed your video very informative thank you and hope to catch more your videos
The Africa Twin has more off-road capability - but no advantages on dirt roads. I can't get excited about dropping a $30,000 motorcycle in the rocks!
Where did you get that bar which your Garmin is mounted on? It looks like the windshield is attached to it? Never seen that kind of bar for mounting things on but it looks cool.
Looking at getting back into motorcycles. Have determined that paved and unpaved roads will be my main focus. Some of the roads may have a bit of rocks so i don't know about that.
Owned before: Kawasaki 175 Enduro, Honda XL250 (Okinawa), Suzuki GS1100G.
Started looking at the KLR. But being in my 60's i am not so sure. Seems great though.
Then started looking at the Africa Twin. Kinda big and tall. I am 6'1" so maybe that's okay. Not sure.
Started looking at lighter alternatives and this, or maybe the newer 750 version with the DCT also look interesting.
Seems to me many falls result from...stalling! So the DCT looks like a major benefit to me.
While the KLR looks more off road worthy, the DCT is compelling and so probably the AT or NC7XX with the DCT.
You certainly showed it is capable of some adventure! Wonder how it would do on the desert roads around Nevada/Arizona/California?

coming to this video New Years day 2021. Am 2yrs into my return to motorcycling after 30 off. Last two yrs riding a 2010 Honda nc700v
( also a bike very popular in Europe but not in states) and am looking to upgrade with longer trips in mind, including the ability to go on forest/ dirt roads, but not hard core off roading. I have been looking at the Honda, now 750x DCT and wondering on your opinion as to waiting for new 2021 version with some nice new features, but an inch lower from shorter shock travel vs 2016, etc with relatively higher ground clearance . I am 5'6" with 30" inseam, so feet closer to ground and even lower center of gravity would be welcome. Do you think 1" lower ground clearance would matter on the dirt roads you experienced?

Randy, I love the 700 and I am considering buying one, but I do Iron Butt rides that often include looooong stretches of highway. How fast could you cruise freeways for extended periods and what king of range could I expect. I don't camp, choosing hotels instead, so my luggage loads are some clothes and electronics, virtually no food or water..... thanks in advance! Nicely set up bike and great video.
I have a 2013 NC 700x And I find it cruises comfortably up to 75 miles an hour keeping it between 60 to 65 mph I’m getting 70 to 72 miles per gallon with a 3.7 gallon tank that allows you close to 250 miles

How did your chain and sprockets do on the gravel roads? Your front tire is a 17 inch? How was traction on dirt/gravel roads without the knobbies? what roads did you ride without the dirt tires? I'm contemplating an alaska ride next year. enjoyed the videos. Dave.
Zero wear. I expect the chain and sprockets to be good for at least 20,000 miles. I rode on dirt and gravel roads. There is NO disadvantage of the 17-inch front wheel. Look at all the big BMW's out there! Well maybe the only disadvantage is that Heidenau doesn't make a 17-inch front tire, but the TKC80 held up very well and would probably last 7,500 miles.
Have you done any riding with a passenger? Does it have enough power and ergonomics to accommodate?
Plenty of power for 2-up riding. I used to ride double on my 650 Vee-Strom all the time, too.
The NC700X and CTX700 are smart motorcycles. I think they are excellent value and the customization possibilities make a lot of sense. Given the engine is derived from the Honda FIT, does it have an oil pan like an automotive design?
No, the engine has nothing in common with the Fit - this is an urban legend. It does have an oil reservoir like any motorcycle, and a spin on filter.

I noticed that you had/have a vstrom and a Yamaha 250. Where would you not be comfortable taking the Honda? I assume the Yamaha is for more off-road environments.
Yes, I rode the eastern half of the Trans-America Trail on my V-Strom. Great bike but I hated the SUPER-wide panniers! The NC700 is probably a foot narrower! I rode the western TAT, AZBDR, COBDR on a Yamaha WR250R. Also a fantastic dual-sport (reliable, economical) but a real pain in the A** on long days, if you know what I mean.
I would take the Honda anywhere I would take the V-Strom - especially if you added a skid plate. Both are good dirt road bikes. The Yamaha goes anywhere you can point it with true motocross capability. But that also means it is the least comfortable. I had added well over $1,000 in parts to make it into an ADV bike...
Randy, I am thinking about getting NC. I cannot decide between DCT or regular. What is your opinion? BTW, I am a new rider. Is there any other bike you think that I can take a look that I would like as a new rider?
I love my DCT. You won't stall in a creek. Never have to think about shifting or stalling in traffic. Put in sport mode and great in the twisties. Use the paddles if you really want another gear.

The Honda has 17-inch wheels front and rear. I went with a Continental TKC80 front and a Heidenau K78 rear.

Generic LED's. I rode in the rain almost every day and used them to gain visibility, even though I seldom rode at night.
Really enjoyed this video! It was very helpful and I took notes; I'm sure I will be asking you more questions along the way, too. I may get a new windscreen as the stock is not quite tall enough for me...works great around town but if I commute on the hwy, the wind is just too much. Still need a radiator guard and I like that RAM mount behind the windscreen...where can I find one like that? What year is your bike? I just got a '16 model two months ago and it's also DCT...I just love riding it! The gas mileage is phenomenal! The tank bag...does it just mount via magnetic mounts? I haven't tried my Cortech bag on mine yet...I just assumed it wouldn't stick since it's plastic? But this model has those utility rails where you can strap the bag on, I guess...the space under the rails isn't very big so some straps, if they have buckles, won't fit under it.

RAM mounts are available from them direct or GPS city, Rezvilla, etc. You want the bar mount. My NC700XD is a 2015, bought new with this trip in mind. The Cortech tank bag fastens with a strap around the head tube, and a second strap around the frame just in front of the seat (you have to remove the seat to wrap it around the frame.) I leave the straps on all te time, even when I don't need the tank bag.
Hello Randy I am currently thinking about trading in my vstrom 650 for a Honda nc700 just because it's lighter and easier to handle. But there is a very good chance the NC750 is coming to the states so I may hold out and see. Congrats on your trip. The hiedenau tire will last you a very long time a very popular tire with the adventure bike people. Its a shame they don't make a 17" tire. What state did you start your ride from?
I love Heidenau tires. Used them on several bikes and I wish they had a 17-inch front.

I have to admit that you have bested my BMW GS. There really is nothing good about a BMW except to talk about it to other BMW owners. They have none of the advantages of your machine. I like the way you executed all of the needed adventure gear. PLEASE I have a question. I started riding bikes in the late 60's. Chains those days were NOT FUN...and became very loud in short order. Please comment in full on the use of a chain these days. I saw where you said it should last 20k. That is acceptable. But does it start whirring and making that chain noise? What did you do maintain it/ lube it etc. If the chain is quiet and a non issue, this will be my next bike. I sold the GS... good riddance!!!!!!!
If I may offer a tip. After leathers, Joe rocket stuff, 2 aerostich road crafters, 40+ yrs and 400k, ... the absolute best gear is Motoport. I love that I can instal a liner and not get wet & stay warm. Check them out!

Never. But I don't ride trails, only unpaved roads. I think the lower, wide 17-inch wheel is actually MORE stable on these roads than a narrower tire.
Interesting. I'm thinking about getting a Tiger 800 XRX for this kind of riding, but you make the NC700X look like a viable option and the DCT is an intriguing option. May I ask why you did this ride on the NC instead of the Tiger 800 XC I saw in one of your past videos?
Meh i personally would prefer the V strom over this, but good on you for making it to and back from alaska.
Until you need to do a valve check and you might change your mind. I Had many bikes in my life and some were much bigger and faster then the NC. The NC with DCT is like the sweet relax ride that get you smile all the time. And the best thing is that is very easy to maintain. Oil change every 8K miles and filters every 16K miles. Valve check is so easy with nothing needed then a #10 ranch and flat screwdriver. Best all round bike. (My last bike before the NC was 2014 Triumph Tiger 800xc)
