God bless Gene Roddenberry for just being his amazing self. He never saw color nor felt any prejudice. He, along with the entire cast, have indeed changed the world in more ways than one.
Is Uhura's first name ever revealed in the Star Trek TV show or movies? I never hear Sulu's first name until Star Trek Generations, when Captain Kirk is talking to Sulu's daughter.
I always thought Uhura would be the girl for Spock. Beauty and brains and don't take no S*** from anybody. Don't get me wrong. I like Majel Barret and the characters she brought, but Christine was never right for Spock. Glad to see they got the right combination in the reboot.
Uh, not seeing colour isn't a good thing, and Gene Roddenberry never subscribed to colourblind racism; he cared enough about representation to actually acknowledge and respect the roots of his characters. TOS wasn't perfect, but it was pretty freaking amazing, and that's part of the reason why.
This lady was full of class back in the day and she's just that today as well.

Still beautiful!
Uhura, the only space chick Kirk never got.
I remember sneaking into the living room to crawl behind the sofa (it had six inch legs) and watching from under there.

Brilliant story. Roddenberry's vision of a "United States of Africa" may be a bit un-pc but we know where he's coming from. Nice thinking.
