Good review and spot on. I own these and like them very much. I replaced a pair of Klipsch RP-280 towers with them, and while the Klipsch sounded pretty good, they just didn't have the rich midrange these do. The clarity in these is excellent! They are now $699 a pair, which is a fantastic deal!
MAN THANK YOU I JUST REPLACED MY POLK AUDIO SYSTEM WITH THESE OMG THESE ARE GREAT.I NEVER HEARD OF THESE BEFORE YOU DEBUTED THEM . I was about to go the B& Wilks but I just couldn’t see paying that much.. These punch above their weight .
I think a lot of people discount Emotiva as a high end brand because of the cheapish look and the relatively cheap speaker prices. 3-way towers for $500 each is crazy, and the older T2s are even cheaper. They sound better than many speakers in the $2k range and can be sold cheaply due to being online orders.
Idk they are overhyped and play competitive for decent speaker at their price point. Had t2 and returned it. I would say it stands the same as dali or any other decent speaker brand like svs, I even think that svs might sounds better for the price. As much as I like b1 because its very cheap t2 cant protect itself being just right. They also have extended bass shelf which means you wont get bass straight as it should so it sounds thin for such a big tower with dual 8" and quite big enclosure. My bookshelves have lower linear frequency response even tho they have lower sensitivity, but if we just want sensitivity and extended bass that falls of quickly below80-70hz then we can just get some decent PA theater speakers.
Very nice review. Hopefully you can get a T1+ palr to compare against your Klipsch pair. Unfortunately in this case the Klipsch R820F is probably the closest natural comparator to the Emotiva Airmotiv T2+, both in price and specification.
It's towards the end of 2022 and the Price on these is now $1100. Mine were just delivered a few days ago and so far I'm loving them. I'm coming from the Jamo s803's and holy wow is there a significant sound difference. I know it's not fair to compare these to small bookshelf speakers, but I have to because that's all I had. These not only sound "bigger" but I'm hearing things before that simply weren't there before. My wife even commented at how much better they sounded. I paired these with a C2+ up front and B1+'s in the rear. Loving what I'm hearing out of these so far.
Great work on the review man. Very nice looking speakers, love that front baffle fit, and finish. 56.9 pounds says "build quality". Love that the acoustically transparent grills are magnetic. Sometimes I like to listen to music with the grills off, magnetic grills make that convenient.
Another great review man. I am in such limbo with my next HT. I have RSL CG23/CG3 HT that is actually very good but I want to step up now. I have RSL CG5 speakers in my sights but looking at many different brands/models. The little brother to these T1+ I have been looking at now and maybe going back to Towers. Its just so hard to make a decision. Looking at SVS Ultra bookshelf/Ultra center too. I would love to see you review the RSL CG5 line of speakers because you do such a good job with your reviews. Another great one here.
Not sure of your budget but honestly I'd go for the Cambridge Audio CXA81. I just reviewed it and love it! Here's a link to the review: ua-cam.com/video/tX329jxfywM/v-deo.html
Curious: Which $500 each ($1,000/pair) floorstanding speakers have you given a "5" to in terms of sound? Seriously considering the T2+ but would be interested to hear something you think sounds even better. Thanks!
This an excellent question!! Honestly this is hard to answer because I really like the T2+, it really is one of my favorite speakers. The Aurora 700 from HECO is really good and on sale as I write this: bit.ly/3Of1nIQ. I review their bigger brother here: ua-cam.com/video/A6lgO4zG6do/v-deo.html. The Q Acoustics 3050i is also good (bit.ly/3AoTpXR) but I do like the T2+ more. In this video I compared the 3050i to the SVS Prime Tower: ua-cam.com/video/91inx02H08M/v-deo.html. On another note I know this may be out of budget but I do have the T3+ in and I'll be reviewing them in a couple weeks so stay tuned for that if you don't pull the trigger on the T2+.
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Thanks for the response. The T3+ is in budget IF it's good enough in the bass department (for music) that I won't need subwoofers. I'd love it if you can answer that in your review. 🙂
I haven't done the comparison with my Klipsch yet but I will be working on that video soon. My guess is the Klipsch will be brighter but I'm curious myself. I'm running the HSU Research VTF-2 MK5, I've done a few videos on it, the most recent is here: ua-cam.com/video/_fQuCtSyfuo/v-deo.html
Got a pair a couple of weeks ago when I saw they were on sale for $699. When I went to their website they gave another 10% off for giving them my email address, so I got them for about $675 with tax and shipped to my door. I don't think you can find a better deal in tower speakers right now.
I had them connected to the Monoprice 7 channel amplifier, I review it here: ua-cam.com/video/6szMvmGgZDk/v-deo.html. If you liked the T1's I'm guessing you'll like the T1+. I'm really impressed with the T2+.
Always enjoy your reviews and point of view!!! Just curious how you think these compare to either the Martin Logan 40i or same size 60XTi? Obviously not price equal but for home cinema…. Powered by a marantz 7013 if it matters.
Got my T1's about a yer ago on closeout right before they started making the plus series. I paid 424 bucks for the pair shipped. Got the center for 200. It was one of the best buys I have ever done as far as audio. Right up there with a pair f Polk LSIM 703's for $550 after this rich guy bought the discounted 5 speaker set that Polk was selling around, and he just wanted the towers and threw the rest on craigs list. not ong after that he put the 707's up for sale and I missed them by just minutes. I was pissed because when I bought 703's I said hit me up first if you sell the towers. He sold them for 1250 bucks.... But really I am glad I wasn't always broke....
I've been using Stealth 8s on my desktop for a couple years. I've not heard a better speaker. There is so much clarity. I've been wondering if their towers are of similar quality, though that Stealth 8 tweeter is a beast.
@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Though it seems they've completely scrapped their Stealth products which were monitors and the DC1 DAC. I guess they weren't selling well? They confuse me with their great value HT speakers and their expensive processors and amps.
Once again, another really good review. Have you tried using any orchestral music in your testing? I think that would tell you how good or bad the imaging is.Not a fan of the bass port, particularly with it being so low to the ground. Seems like a good place for any crawly thing to get into the speaker.
Nice review! Was thinking Golden Ear’s would be my future speaker brand but these are making me rethink that a bit 🤔. Would definitely be a bit cheaper 4 sho. Have you heard any of the Triton towers and, if so, how do they compare to these in your opinion?
Thank you! I have heard the Tritons in a store not in my room with my music so I can't really compare them directly, sorry. I did like what I heard but it wasn't a true fair comparison.
Home Theater Hobbyist Agreed! Same thing here too. Heard them in a local store called Gramophone. Sounded great to me too but, they were not set up to be acoustically accurate and, the price differential could mean everything to the bottom line. Unfortunately, since Emotiva is an internet company, I can’t compare them easily. Hard decisions to make 🤔. Golden Ear has a NICE plate on the rear saying they were manufactured in Baltimore, MD, where I’m from... so, we’ll see in the long run
If u r in the market of ribbon tweeter, try Martin Logan motion series, they have very good review as well, the price is in between Emotiva and Golden ears. The design is way better than tis Emotiva
I want to like these but am in sure of the 4ohm spec vs 8ohm. Have you heard svs prime series towers. Which sound better? Basically I'm look at both these brands Emotiva or SVS. But seem to lean on SVS. buuuuuut these emotivas seem very nice.
Funny you should ask this question I just did a video on the Prime Towers and spent a few minutes discussing the differences. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/_Ph4V35CnMU/v-deo.html
I do recommend a subwoofer if possible but it's not necessary. Unfortunately, I haven't heard the RS13 but I'd recommend something that will go lower than 20Hz if possible. HSU VTF-2 MK5 and SVS PB2000 Pro both come to mind.
That's a great question. The SVS Prime towers maybe a good choice, their also 3-way speaker but I haven't heard them yet so I can't fully say how they compare.
I've been looking for speakers to do a 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 setup and I was looking at SVS prime pinnacle or SVS Ultra line but, how do the the T2+ compare to SVS?
First of all I haven't tried the Prime Pinnacle only the Prime Towers. Also, I wasn't able to do a direct comparison between the Towers and T2+. All that being said my thoughts are: the T2+ has a smoother mid range and a slight more emphasized bass when compared to the Prime Towers. The Prime Towers may play a touch more detail than the T2+ but I'm not totally sure since I wasn't able to compare them directly. Hopefully this helps! 🤷🏾♂️😀
These really do sound nice. Very pleasant balanced sound with no harshness from top to bottom that I heard. I'm impressed, I really am. I'd like to have a set just for their smoothness. Sounds like the bass is not very deep for such a large speaker. I think polyfil might help with port noise. Probably wouldn't take but a pound or 2 for the set. It may even give the woofers more depth. I would fill it with polyfil just above the port hole. Good buy for $1k I think. There's not much out there in that price with dual 8" other than Polk. Dual 8" is a good size for any room unless it's really large. I haven't been impressed by the Polk, I would definitely go for these. For me personally the biggest question would be these, magnepan lsr or the JBL studio 590 when they go on sale? Or save 3 times the money for ohm Walsh or tekton? I haven't heard the Maggie's but I like the sound of these over the JBL from what I've heard. I prefer the look of the JBL (even though they're god-forsaken huge - I love it I don't care I don't have space but if I did...). The JBL should be the better speaker but I don't know without hearing them live. These are incredible though. Smoothest speaker I believe I've ever heard, just neutral and smooth. Great job emotiva!
Yes, they used a much larger ribbon tweeter compared to what they now offer. In addition they were powered. Perfect for desktop use or on stands. People who bought them love them so you’ll rarely find them used. I’m not sure how they compared to the airmotive line that they now sell but something tells me they were more expensive to produce which is why they stopped making them... I could be wrong. Z reviews has a set and he’s kept them!!
